Chapter 5
Crazy Train

Jade

"Cat's what?" I yelled, making everyone in the living room stop what they were doing and Mom jump back with a little fear on her face. "Why am I just finding out that you're getting married, Cat?" I wanted to cry. Cat has been like my little sister since the third grade, and everyone beside me knew that she was going to marry Sam.

"Jade, honey, we had a whole conversation about this upstairs. I told you about the fight. About Sam and Cat getting married and motherhood…" Tori said to me. I'm sure she would have kept rambling on as well, but my croak of outrage silenced her. I whirled back to Cat.

"You're having a baby too?" My eyes felt like they were going to fall out of my head.

"Yes, Jade. Sam knocked me up, she's just that damn good," Cat drawled at me. Her sarcasm washed over me like a cold bucket of water. Right. I'm a complete fool. I look over at Mom, who at this point is laughing so hard, tears are rolling down her cheeks.

"Mom, you don't have to make her feel bad by laughing at her," Tori said as she too started to laugh, and was joined by Cat. So now everyone is laughing and crying at me. They are doing everything besides rolling on the floor and pointing.

I look at my lovely wife, whom I love with all my heart, but at this point, I have no problem with killing her. The door opened and Dad walked in, to see three women sitting on the floor laughing, and me growling at them. "Do I want to know?" he asks. Before I open my mouth to answer him, Cat fluidly rose from the floor and scampered up to him. She threw her arms around his shoulders and flopped against him. He stumbled as he hurriedly had to catch her from falling on the floor. She tilted her face up to his and smiled sweetly.

"Sam knocked me up," Cat said. I watched Dad's face and he looked like he was going to explode. Cat must have seen what I did, because she said in a conciliatory tone of voice, "Don't worry, she's going to marry me." That was it. I threw my hands in the air, to renewed peals of laughter from Mom. I'm not sure why she is laughing.

"Nope, I didn't want to know," Dad said as he untangled himself from Cat and started for his office to put his gun away in the safe. He turned back when I snarled my frustration.

"No sense in fighting it, Dad. They're all nuts," I said as I stalked over to the couch and flopped down to wait for them to regain their composure. Finally, Mom gasped to an end of her laughter.

"Oh my god, Jade, what was with the crazy faces and gestures?" she asked, which set Tori and Cat off again. I didn't answer, I just glared back at her. Holly kept a straight face for almost 15 seconds before she started giggling again. Yep, definitely going to kill them.

Cat

Mom asked me if I wanted to go get ice cream after dinner tonight with her and Dad. I was a little taken aback. I thought they would want to talk to Tori and Jade; tell them it was time to move out. I told her I would love to go. I always want to go out for ice cream. I saw them talking earlier before dinner, but they were most likely talking about Tori and Jade.

Dinner was great, but I was happy when it was over. Because that meant that I was going out for ice cream with just Mom and Dad. Oh no, were they going to talk to me about the wedding? I don't think Dad would have a fit like he did with Trina and Tori. In fact, I really don't think he would care if I'm getting married. I would be surprised if they even show up. It's not like we're their real kids. It doesn't really matter. I get to go out for ice cream with just Mom and Dad. I can't wait.

Anyway, I was sitting in the living room while Mom and Robin got done with the dishes. Once the dishwasher was started, Robin scurried out the back door with a book in her hand and Mom went upstairs. I looked around, expecting to see Tori and Jade, but they were nowhere to be seen. And Dad had gone into his office and closed his door.

'Oh well, they forgot. No big deal. You should just go home, it's not like it meant that much to them, anyway.' I heard the whisper in my head and I looked around to see if my twin was back. I haven't seen her since I was really young.

I walked out the door and was halfway down the driveway when Tori came around the corner of the house from the front yard and caught up with me. "Hey, where you going?" she asked.

"Home. It's getting late. I want to get there before it gets dark." I looked at the ground. I still couldn't look Tori in the eye without getting mad.

"Well, wait a moment. I'll have Jade take you; it looks like it's going to rain," she said and started to walk to the house. I didn't want to get home too quickly, so I just started to walk again.

'They didn't need to act like they cared about you anyway. Just started walking again because you know Jade was upstairs, and would take some time to come down. You could make some time between this house and yours/mine before she even got up.' This was sad. My twin never told me mean things before, she only told me the truth. Oh no, it's happening again.

I was almost three blocks away when Mom and Dad came down the street. Dad pulled over when he saw me, and Mom got out of the car. "Cat, Tori told me you were walking home. Why?" she asked.

'She didn't have any idea why you was still even at the house.'

"It was getting late, and I wanted to get there before dark. I didn't want to bother anyone to take me, and Sam is working. She has the car," I tell her and Mom gave me a look like she was lost.

"I could have taken you, it's no bother." She did forget. "Did you not want to go for ice cream, then?" What did she just ask me? I think I missed it because my twin was giggling.

"You still want to?" I asked with my head hung low. Not really sure if I was asking the right question.

"Of course kiddo, get in. We have a lot to talk about," Mom said.

'Like she was preparing a law case against you.'

I sank down in the back seat. And that's when I see her, sitting on the floor. My twin looked up at me. She started to speak. David and Holly's voices fade out as her voice faded in.

'They want to talk to you because you did something wrong. You always did things wrong, remember. Maybe it was because you made Tori mad today, and they want to yell at you about it. Or maybe because of what happened today, and the way you talked to Mom, they see they made a mistake and don't want you to come around anymore. I guess you can do that. When Sam, Robin, and Robbie go over there, you can always find something to do. Or when they go over there for Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Yay Day, you can be with Dice and Goomer. But wait, didn't they spend last year with the Vega's too? Oh well, you'll find something to do.' She gave me a disappointed look before she glanced down and started to laugh.

"What kind of ice cream do you like?" I was pulled out of my train of thought when Dad asked.

"Strawberry the most, I guess," I said. Looking at my twin, I wanted to instead look at Mom and Dad. I can't seem to pull my eyes away, and I keep listening to what she's telling me.

'It really doesn't matter what you like. You don't have money on you. You didn't get your purse from your locker…oh, so you can't get into your apartment either, because your keys are in your purse. Jade has an extra set, but you don't want to ask them to take you all the way back to their house just to get your keys, just to walk home. Oh well, you can sit outside and wait until Sam gets home. She should be off at two in the morning, so it won't be too long. That's only six hours from now. Plenty of time to practice singing in the rain.

"Cat, are you okay?" Mom asked and I look up, just a little, to nod.

"Yes, I'm fine," I lied, still apprehensive about what my twin would say.

'Sure you're fine. For now. But when they tell you that they made a mistake, I hope you can hold the tears in.' She started acting like she's crying, hands over her face, shoulders bobbing up and down in great heaving sobs, then looked at me through her spread fingers and busts out laughing again.

"Okay, we're here. Time for some ice cream goodness," Dad said in a dorky voice, rising from the car. I gave him a sad smile as I pull myself free from the comfortable back seat and stretch slowly.

'You need to get used to calling him Mr. Vega again, or David, because after tonight most likely, he won't want you to be calling him Dad. I don't blame him. Why would any guy want a messed up kid calling him Dad? That just makes him look like a bad father.'

"Cat, time to go inside," David said. He touched my shoulder. I totally missed him coming around the car to stand next to me. I shook my head, trying to quiet the voice down.

"You know, I'm full from that dinner. I think I'm just going to go on home. You two have a good night. See you around," I said and slammed the car door. I ducked around Dad, David, and was almost to the end of the parking lot before he caught up to me, stopped me.

"Hey, what is going on with you? Holly said you wanted to go out for ice cream, and you take off. And now you bolt again, did you not want ice cream?" David was standing about two feet away from me, and he asked all these questions, but I couldn't heard him because there was laughing in my head.

'Oh, that's just great! You thought you had this fine family that loved you. Because Jade said so, but did you hear what he called your wonderful Mom? That's right, he called her Holly. So they don't want you anymore. You did mess up, and now you have to face what that bitch Holly said, the Piper.'

I wiped the tears from my eyes and shook my head. "No. Sorry. I thought I did, but I don't have money, and I don't have my keys, and I'm wasting your time, so please David, you and Holly just go have a nice evening. I won't bother you again." I turned and ran off as fast as I could, ignoring his cry to me to "Wait!" only looking back one time to see David walking back to Holly, shaking his head.

I ran most of the way back to my apartment with tears rolling down my face. The night air burnt where the tears had dried on my cheeks, and my eyes were swollen from crying. I turned the corner to my apartment and saw Dice walking to his door. "Dice!" I yelled and slid to a stop in front of him. "Do you still have a key to my apartment?" I asked, looking down, hoping he wouldn't notice I had been crying.

"Yeah. Sam made me keep it, so if you ever locked yourself out, or if you ever…"

"Hey Dice. Don't care. Just get the damn key!" I snapped, waving a hand toward the door.

"Okay, I'll get it. Are you okay, Cat?" he asked.

"Do I look okay?" I rasp at him. I look up and he shakes his head, stunned at the way I look. He then turned and ran off to get the key. After unlocking my door, I handed him back the key, smiled, and slammed the door in his face. This should be nothing new to him; Sam does live here.

I was laying down on the couch with a glass of soda, watching TV with the volume down. My head was quiet and there was no sign of my twin. I was starting to feel better in the silent apartment.

It was about ten-thirty when someone knocked on the door. "The one time that little twerp knocks, it has to be tonight. No, not when I have my head between Sam's legs!" I yell loudly. After a moment of shocked silence, the knock is repeated. I stomp over to the door and I rip it open. Holly, David, and Tori are all wide eyed and gape-mouthed. Jade is smirking and pointing at me. She tweaked one eyebrow at me in respect. It was a respectable dodge on answering the door.

"Cat, we need to talk." David said. I look around and saw the other me standing behind the door. She gives me a sly grin.

"You can't trust them. They made your oldest friends show them where you live,' she said, waving her hands in Mom an...Holly and David's direction.

"What is wrong with you tonight?" David asked gently, and I just raised my hands in the air and moved back to the couch.

'If they are going to do this, and in your house, then you need to get comfortable. Give them attitude, show them you don't care anymore,' my twin advised me as she walked over to the couch with me and sat down, crossing her arms and glaring at the other people in the house.

I propped my feet up on the coffee table and turned to them and waved them in. "Cat, something is wrong, and you need to let us know what it is, honey," David said. Tori, Jade, and Holly filed in behind him, arranging themselves facing me in a semicircle. I turned to see what my twin would have to say about all of this, and she didn't look happy. In fact, I barely recognized her, she was scowling so fiercely at them. Her eyes flicked to mine and the voice in my head was cold, emotionless. Dead.

'Go in for the kill. Don't let them see Robin anymore,' she hissed.

I nodded to no one and turned back to David. "No, I don't, David. And from now on, Robin will not be going over there anymore. Please, for her sake, don't fight me on this," I tell them and point to the door. Holly is fighting tears and David is clearly pissed. Why else would there be tears on his cheeks?

"No, Cat. Something went wrong, and you will tell. Them or me, it makes no difference. You need to talk to someone," Jade said to me, and I couldn't help it. It just came bubbling up. She took my hands and I laughed in her face.

"You are them, you two faced back stabbing bitch!" My twin started jumping on the couch, trying to give me a high five, but we can't. I go to swing at her hand and it vanishes. I topple over, not expecting her to leave like that, and I fall on the couch face first and start to cry. "She's gone," I moaned.

Tori is the first one to me, rubbing my back as I cry. I don't know who she's talking to, but I hear Tori tell someone to call Sam and tell her to come home, and call my Nana. I look up, for the first time since the fight, into Tori's eyes and I start sobbing and shaking. "Don't worry, Cat. We're here now."

I just lay there on that couch, twitching and crying, until the door opens and Sam flies in. She wrapped her arms around me and kissed my head. "I'm here baby, I'm here."

I can't stop shaking, harder and harder. I'm sure all this jerking around is going to hurt Sam, I'm still in her arms, but all of a sudden I fall asleep. I jerk awake when I feel myself being moved. I'm on stretcher again, and two guys are moving me. They get me into the ambulance and strapped in. Everyone was able to say their good byes and that they will be up to see me very soon. After the doors closed, I laid back. I looked over to the bench across from me and there sat my twin, dressed like an EMT. "No, no, no, please, no," I whimper as I shook my head.
