THUD
"Ow!"
Izuku looked up from his desk as he heard Mei yelp, a worried look on his face when he saw her lying on the floor. He floated over to her quickly and lifted her up, giving her a once over. "Are you alright?"
Mei just chuckled and hugged him, letting go and allowing Izuku to place her on the ground. "I'm fine! Just underestimated how much pressure was in that canister! No worries, Izu!"
Izuku smiled and ruffled her hair, totally abusing both his height and the fact that he could float to tease her. "You know that I'm gonna worry about you no matter what, right?"
Mei rolled her eyes and grabbed at the device she was building, which Izuku guessed was the prototype for Uraraka's new gear. "Yea I know… god, you send yourself to the hospital in a blaze of technological glory one time…"
"First of all, it was 3 times, and your 'blaze of technological glory' nearly destroyed the entirety of the lab your dad let us use."
Mei pouted, sticking her tongue out at Izuku. "Pfft. Whatever. You were all fine and the lab was fixed up in less than 2 days! I don't get why you all still are on me about that!"
Izuku smiled and wrapped up Mei in another hug. Wriggling back and forth and squeezing. Mei laughed and hugged back, and after a few moments, Izuku let her go again.
Mei was silent for a moment, before humming a frown forming on her face as her eyes seemed to zoom in on his own, looking him over. "Hey Izu? Be careful with whatever is going on today, alright? My business partner isn't allowed to be hurt in any way, shape, or form."
Izuku smiled at her, nodding his head. He was a little surprised that she had noticed that he was on edge, but it made him feel good anyway to know that she cared about him so much. "Of course, Mei-day. I'm not going anywhere."
Mei smiled before turning back to her gadget, a laugh escaping her as the canister blew up again, sending her flying backwards, this time being caught by Izuku's telekinetic device. She really did hope that he wasn't doing something stupid.
Which was saying something, coming from her.
"Eraser, I'm still not sure that this is a great idea…"
Aizawa hummed as All Might kept the student's attention on himself, allowing him and Thirteen to talk. He nodded to the woman, frowning. "I'm not really a fan of it either, but Nezu said that they probably wouldn't attack until everyone is in the building, students included."
He couldn't see Thirteen's face through the mask, but he knew she was frowning as well. "I know Nezu made a whole plan for us to follow through, and I know I should trust his plans after all these years working with him, but…"
Aizawa nodded. "Putting students in danger is odd. A few years ago I don't think he would have done it. I think… I think that device the problem child made for him might have some downsides neither of them thought about. Tunnel vision hits those brainiacs pretty hard."
Thirteen agreed, sighing. Her helmet tilted a little to the crowd of students, over towards where Midoriya was floating behind the class, like a helpful ghost. "I think it might be best if we brought it up with the other staff after today and talked to the two about him possibly not using the Amplifier anymore…"
Aizawa nodded but didn't have time to respond before they heard All Might finish his speech, flexing as he did so. Rolling his eyes, Aizawa stepped forward with Thirteen. "Alright, brats, follow us. This place is meant to teach you but it can be dangerous, so don't be stupid."
The class nodded happily, and Aizawa led them towards the large doors of the USJ. He noticed that Midoriya had separated from the group and had headed to the control centre. Remembering the plan that Nezu had put forward in case they did get attacked, Aizawa ignored it in favour of heading inside.
The doors opened slowly, and he heard the customary gasps of awe he had gotten used to hearing the first-years giving when they saw the USJ for the first time. He gave the floor to Thirteen after everyone was inside, and headed over to sit by the stairs and overlook the USJ.
He wasn't a religious man by any means, but he prayed to God that Nezu's plan worked.
All Might wasn't as happy as his smile would make it seem.
Nezu was intentionally putting the children in danger with the plan that he had put forward to the staff. Sure, All Might had been given the emergency residence room to sleep in overnight so he didn't have to travel to work today, which meant he hadn't used any of his time since class ended the day before, leaving him with more time than usual, but what if the Villains had a trump card that even he couldn't overcome in his weakened form?
He listened as Thirteen spoke, taking mental notes on how the Space Hero interacted with the kids. Now that Young Kirishima was his successor, he needed to get better at teaching. Young Midoriya had shown him that in the days prior…
Thirteen was telling them about how their Quirks could be dangerous to people, something that All Might knew all too well. Even in his weakened state, people were bound to get seriously hurt if he didn't hold back. It had been even more prevalent in his prime.
Even if he didn't include Young Kirishima in his list of potentially dangerous Quirks, there were still many students who had Quirks capable of causing injuries or even deaths quite easily. But that was what they were here for! To teach the heroes of the future how to use their Quirks to protect the people who need protecting, to help those that need help!
He was about to add onto something Thirteen had said about proper Quirk usage when suddenly the Light around the USJ's perimeter shut down. A second later, a robotic voice echoed through the building.
[Warning. Warning. Power Surge detected in the system. Deploying Emergency Power]
All Might didn't even need to register the words fully before he was turned to face the plaza in the USJ now that the emergency lights had turned on, One for All humming under his skin as his eyes darted back and forth, and he could see Aizawa scanning the plaza as well, his hands on his scarf.
[Warning. Warning. Unidentified signal interfering with Wireless Alarms. Attempting to Resolve]
All Might held his breath as silence permeated the building for a moment before the voice came back, and hissed in disappointment at its words.
[Resolution failed. Interference estimated to be Quirk-based.]
"All Might. Get those doors open again, the kids need to get out now." All Might frowned at Aizawa words, before noticing the swirling botch of purple in the middle of the plaza. He nodded to the man and turned to smash the door open when another swirl of purple appeared in front of him rapidly.
Moving too quickly to stop at such close range, he allowed One for All to flow through him at a higher level and raised his arms to defend himself as he sunk into the purple mist.
Izuku's fingers were moving as fast as they could as he typed on the various keyboards around the room.
Nezu had been right! The villains had waited until the big doors of the USJ had closed before warping in! That meant they had some way of knowing when it had happened. Which while worrying, was something they had expected.
The one thing they had underestimated though, was how strong of a Quirk they had to disrupt signals. He had guessed that they would be doing something to stop the USJ from sounding the alarm to the main campus, but neither Izuku nor Nezu had found a Quirk strong enough to completely lock out signals like this in their research.
Maybe they were on Trigger?
Whatever the case was, Izuku needed to focus on helping the others for now. The security room was technically within the walls of the USJ, meaning that he had been locked out of all wireless signals outside of the building.
That didn't mean he was unable to help. Using the USJ's security computer, he checked on the emergency power reserves. With how fast they were draining, they had about an hour if they didn't use any more Quirks to surge the systems.
Izuku was very upset that they had ruined parts of his work. The power surge had wretched a few vital systems like the Zone Effects System, meaning that Izuku could no longer change what was happening in the zones.
Luckily that was about it. He still had access to almost everything else, including the controls to his 'Automated Defence Towers' and the 'Robotic Defenders Control System'.
He was tapping away at the keyboard to his right, getting the RDCS ready for use when he noticed a bright spot of Red, White, Blue, and Yellow appear in the camera for the plaza. Letting out a curse, he watched as All Might appeared in the plaza, followed by what looked like the main cast out of a B-list horror movie appearing out of another portal.
Not one to give up any opportunity for science, he immediately started the USJ's scanning functions and used the computer to tag the 3 villains that had appeared first. The others looked like grunts and thugs, but the main 3 looked worrying.
If he was going to follow Nezu's plan, then he was at the very least going to get the Quirk Scans of villains who thought themselves powerful enough to take on All Might. He especially wanted to scan the Portal Quirk that the man with a smoky purple body was using.
That could be useful someday.
"All Might! You're here! Excellent!"
Kurogiri frowned as All Might appeared in front of them, not really liking being so close to the Symbol of Peace. He was the assistant, the get-away driver, the servant. He should never be so close to All Might himself, but he would follow his orders.
He glanced over towards Shigiraki and the Nomu, watching them, just in case they needed an emergency escape. Sensei would never forgive him if he let All Might take out his project before he could use the boy against his enemy.
"VILLAINS! YOU'VE MADE A GRAVE MISTAKE COMING HERE! I AM GRATEFUL THAT YOU ARE SO EAGER TO BE ARRESTED, THOUGH! HAHA!"
Kurogiri narrowed his eyes at All Might, giving a look to the fodder that surround the Plaza, as well as placing a hand on Shigiraki's shoulder as the boy shook. Kurogiri had been taking care of him long enough to know when the boy was pissed.
"You… you! I'll kill you! And then we'll see how much peace there is in the world! Nomu! Fodder! Kill All Might!"
"IT'S GOING TO TAKE MORE THAN A FEW STREET THUGS TO TAK- OOF!"
Kurogiri thought he had gotten used to Nomu's speed, but he had evidently never seen the beast, because it was a beast now, use its full power. He hadn't even seen Nomu move before All Might was blocking its attack, grooves dug into the ground as the Hero was pushed back.
"Hah! Nomu is going to tear you to shreds for me! He was specifically designed to destroy you! And when he does, society will crumble before us! The people will learn that nothing can protect them, not even their Symbol of Peace!"
"YOU UNDERESTIMATE HEROES, SCOUNDREL! I'LL SHOW YOU HOW WRONG YOU ARE! DETROIT SMASH!"
Kurogiri dug his feet into the floor to avoid getting blown back by the blast and turned to Shigiraki as All Might and Nomu started to fight. "I will return swiftly, Shigaraki."
The boy nodded, barely listening as he watched All Might and the Nomu start to beat the shit out of each other. Kurogiri opened up a portal to where the students should have been and stepped through.
"Aizawa! All Might is fighting in the plaza! The villains have something that can go 1 on 1 with him! Go help him, I'm going to sound the alarm!"
Aizawa cursed as Midoriya's voice came through the earpiece he was wearing. He watched as Thirteen finished removing a human-sized hole in the thick steel doors, having turned around and led the students out immediately after the first alarm went off.
He used his scarf to throw some of the stragglers towards the group, turning as he felt a chill run down his neck. He spun and allowed himself to fall backwards, rolling back to his feet as a knife passed through where his head had been.
His Quirk flared up immediately, and he saw the purple smoke around the man's head and hands slow down a bit, sticking to his body a bit more. "Bad move. If you surrender now I won't have to knock you out."
It was a lie, of course, Aizawa couldn't leave someone with a portal Quirk awake if he wanted to be done with them for the rest of the attack. The mist man seemed to realise this as well. "I'm afraid I can't do that. Pity that the students were able to leave so quickly. You teachers must have excellent reflexes to get them out without prior warning."
Aizawa didn't respond, choosing to send his scarf out to wrap the man up instead. The mist man moved out of the way of one tendril only to find his leg wrapped up by another, pulling him off his feet.
Unfortunately for Aizawa, the dust that Kurogiri kicked up while moving forced him to blink, allowing Kurogiri to spawn a portal underneath himself, appearing behind him. Aizawa was in the process of turning to face the man when he felt two metal things clip into his chest.
"Why don't you take a nap, Eraserhead. Killing All Might will be much easier without your interference. Maybe I'll just get Nomu to kill you while you're out."
Aizawa barely had time to register the fact that the mist man had gotten both parts of a taser on him before his entire body spasmed, pain shooting up every available nerve. He struggled to stay away, knowing that if he didn't, the villain would most likely kill him.
He was about to fail when he heard the thud of metal on the floor, followed by the sound of a gunshot. Right before his vision faded completely, he saw Kurogiri being forced to portal away. And then he saw his saviours. The squadron of humanoid robots with non-lethal rifles approaching him.
All of them emblazoned with the 'Ins0mniac' Logo.
