Chapter 2
The teachers of U.A. watched the monitors as the applicants for the Hero Course ran through the mock city, destroying robots and collecting points. Apart from the new weapons, something was different about the metallic brutes, they seemed more… aware, intelligent. Moving in groups instead of by themselves. This forced some students to work together, and those flying solo had a harder time of taking them down.
The principal watched with amusement as a duo of robots worth two points each ganged up on a group of applicants. "Seems like our robots have gotten smarter, care to explain Power Loader?"
With a chuckle and smile, the shirtless man replied, "One of our applicants decided to upgrade their systems, told me that the original test was; in his words, stupid and rather irrational, that anyone can smash a robot, but it takes more than physical strength to outsmart one... let alone a group."
A slouched man with long black hair and grey scarf watched with a smirk as a one point robot dodged an attack and countered. "About time they made the test more than just smashing hunks of metal," he grumbled, the other teachers nodded in agreement.
"Wait, you said he modified their systems?" asked a scraggly blonde man with sunken eyes.
"Did it in two out of the five hours before he went to work on the zero pointer for another hour, and then went to work creating some sort of communication system. When he finished, he still had an hour left," Power Loader commented proudly. This earned some whistles of admiration from a few other teachers.
'With plenty of determination, this kid can definitely go places.' Thought the slouched teacher.
"How fun!" exclaimed the principal, "I wonder if he can match my intellect? Oh I can't wait to meet him already!" The sound of the principal's cackling filled the room as they watched on.
After finishing his cackling, the principal passed a remote to the blonde man. "Okay Mr. Yagi, let's show the candidates the real test." A red button glowed, and the scraggly blonde pushed it, activating a zero point robot as tall as a ten story building to erupt from the ground. Debris flew into the air, causing many of the applicants to cease their fighting and stare at the behemoth before taking off in the opposite direction, some even trampling others.
'How disappointing' thought the teachers as the zero pointer drove on. Eyes widened as the screen zoomed in on a group of applicants that had gotten trapped under the rubble; trying to scramble away frantically as the behemoth got closer, and closer, and closer, TOO CLOSE.
"Deactivate it!"
"Quick, it doesn't look like it's stopping!"
"CALM DOWN!" Power Loader yelled, "Get ready for invention number two!"
The rest of the teachers watched the screen anxiously. Just before the zero pointer was about to crush the panicking applicants, it suddenly stopped, and looked down on the group before reaching its massive hand towards them, brushing away the rubble. The teacher's jaws dropped, "It noticed them! Its awareness was improved!?" exclaimed Mr. Yagi. "Just how smart is this kid!?"
Power Loader beamed with pride, "Izuku, he scored second on the exam and first on the practical."
"And his last name?" asked a woman.
"He's a ward of the state, so he doesn't have one." replied Power Loader.
"How unfortunate for the young lad, but.."
"But, Principal Nezu?"
"Finally! Someone who can potentially match my intellect!" cackled the principal. Being the one who created the support course written exam, he knew exactly how much potential each student had in terms of intellect based on their exam scores... and second place was no easy feat. "Who scored first?"
"A girl named Mei Hatsume, she's behind the new weapons," replied Power Loader.
The principal's cackling grew (as well as the teacher's annoyance).
Turning back to the screen, the teachers once again marveled at the sight of the zero pointer raising an antenna on its head as it turned towards some two pointer robots, who suddenly stopped their assault on the running candidates and came treading over to the group of fallen children (who had wide eyes of their own) before picking them up and retreating.
"That's the third invention. He gave the Zero Pointer a way of contacting the other bots in case of an emergency, it works really well with its increased awareness that you previously saw." Power Loader commented. Personally, he was looking forward to having this Izuku in his class, he was a brilliant young man, no doubt he would've been great if he had enrolled in the Hero Course. But thankfully for Power Loader, the boy and his great mind were all his. Now for the Hatsume girl.
'Oh...' Power Loader thought, 'Oh boy...'
Mei Hatsume was smart, smarter than Izuku in certain areas. Especially in turning scrap into works of art on the spot. But the girl was too much of a hazard around power tools. She had blown up her workstation twice during her practical exam, and wouldn't stop submitting inventions until the five hours were up. She had an admirable drive and an amazing mind, but the shirtless man knew she would be giving him a run for his money (literally) with her rather explosive "babies" as she called them.
Oh well, the pros outweigh the cons.
The screen showed the end of the exam as the applicants left the huge mock city, others being tended to by a nurse.
"Well!" the principal signed, "that was a very interesting turn of events! I think I will pay this Izuku a visit… perhaps a game of chess with a cup of tea? Where does he live, Power Loader?"
Said man opened the file on the student and his eyes widened, "At the Yaoyorozu residence."
"The multi-millionaire family with world-wide corporations? Is he their son? Perhaps adopted?" asked Mr. Yagi.
"No, the Yaoyorozu have no official paperwork regarding an adoption specifically. I think he might be their ward or something along those lines."
"The help or chauffeur perhaps? Oh my..."
"Don't even think about it Nemuri."
"Hmph, ruin my fun why don't you."
The principal clapped his paws. "All right everyone, it's time we start to review the results and start preparing for those acceptance letters! Mr. Yagi, get your suit ready, you're going to be on video for the rest of the day, so get refreshed. Mr. Aizawa come with me please." The slouched man got up and begrudgingly followed the shorter principal, muttering something about paperwork and sleep on his way out.
The rest of the teachers followed the dismissal; leaving or staying behind to chat with each other. One thing they all agreed on: This year's batch sure had some interesting potential, both the hero and the support course.
Izuku wiped the last of the window blinds clean. "I detest dust," he said aloud. It had been two weeks since the entrance exam, and he felt that he had a good enough score from both the written and practical exam.
'DING DONG'
"Who on Earth would that be?" wondered the boy. Putting away his cleaning utensils, he put on his gloves and walked towards the door. Another young butler was heading there as well.
"I got it Samuel," Izuku said. The other boy nodded, and turned to resume whatever he was doing.
Fixing his tie and standing up a little straighter, Izuku opened the door.
He was greeted with the sight of Power Loader, a man who looked like a hobo with his messy hair and stubble, and a rodent-like creature on his shoulder. They all wore formal clothing.
Now Izuku had seen many… weird things in his life, but this was new. The trio at the door seemed just as surprised to see someone so young answer the door, they definitely expected someone... older.
"May I help you gentlemen?" he asked.
The creature cleared his throat. "Hello young one, I am Principal Nezu, the one I am presently riding on his shoulder is Aizawa Sensei, while the helmeted man there is Power Loader. We are staff at U.A."
The boy nodded slowly, "I am partly aware. Please come in, and wait for me to address the Master of your arrival," The trio did so, subtly admiring the fine home's interior as Izuku walked away. He soon came to an office, and proceeded to knock on the large wooden door. "Master, are you in there?"
The muffled sounds of shuffling was all he heard before the door opened to reveal a tall, fine man with pitch black hair and beard. He seemed very annoyed. "What is it Izuku? I'm in the middle of a business deal that is of great importance."
The boy stood straighter, "It appears you have company, from U.A. specifically."
The man rubbed his chin, without another word, he motioned Izuku to lead him to them. "Who are they?"
"Two staff members and the principal apparently."
"Hmmm. Tell them to meet me in the parlor, and bring tea."
The young butler walked ahead to meet the UA staff, the elder Yaoyorozu walking towards the parlor.
"Gentlemen," began Izuku, "Master Yaoyorozu will meet you in the parlor. Please follow me."
The trio stayed silent as they followed the boy, walking along the finely decorated halls and stealing subtle glances at the artwork and furniture. Izuku smirked at their expressions.
Finally arriving at the parlor, the trio were greeted with the sight of a large living space with elegant sofas and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling; its crystals glimmering in the leaking sunlight from the windows. As Izuku left, the principal hopped down from his ride, and bowed to the elder Yaoyorozu. "Thank you for accepting us at such short notice."
The man frowned, "Let's skip the formalities, I may have been expecting a meeting, but it would have been appreciated if you had called in advance. I don't like it when my work is interrupted."
Aizawa bowed next, "Apologies Mr..."
"Like stated previously, skip the formalities."
"Understood."
Power Loader sat down on the couch. He began to speak, his helmet giving his voice a slight echo. "We are here because we would like to meet an Izuku, his portfolio reveals that he lives here. His results in the entrance exam; both the written and practical, were exemplary."
"It is to be expected, he has been studying here since he was five."
Aizawa raised a brow, "He studied here?"
"Yes, he was taught most of what he knows by our head butler, Francis. That included Literature, Arts, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Mechanics, and Business among many others."
"A butler knows this kind of stuff?" asked Power Loader.
"But of course Master Loader," came a light but distinguished voice, the trio turned to see Francis, smiling gently, "I wasn't always a butler, I had been a government agent in my youth, and that required me to learn a great many things," he said as Izuku returned with a tea cart. "But make no mistake, the rest of what Izuku knows that didn't come from me was self-taught."
The principal clapped his paws, bouncing on the sofa lightly as his curiosity grew. "What amazing potential, Mr. Yaoyorozu, do you think you can take us to this boy of yours? He must be really special."
The man stood. "While it is true that Izuku is special, he is rather plain-looking."
He smirked as he caught a glance at Izuku's deadpan look. "But he is a kind fellow. Quite the sass on him too, isn't that right Francis?"
"Why don't we ask him ourselves Master?" the two men turned towards the boy, and smirked at the shocked faces of the teachers, realization setting in.
Izuku himself smirked, "Oh Master, how you flatter me."
