Chapter One: The Elemental Master of Light

Maya Lenn was my name. I am the elemental master of light. I used to be ashamed of it because I only lived in darkness. However, that was only until I met my family. I am now going to tell you the story of my past- my darkest time- and how I used that darkness to create light in my life and others. Lenn might've been my name back then, but now I go as Maya…Maya Garmadon.

It all started about three years ago…

"Ugh its 10 minutes past. Where the hell are they?" I thought to myself. I looked down at my hand that held the key to the city generator. I stole it. Yeah, I know. But it was what I had to do to survive. It's what the outcasted Slithraa wanted rather than my head for causing destruction between us. I knew if I got them this key, I would be released from the personal hell they put me in. I have their word.

All of a sudden, I heard the hatch from below squeak open behind me. I stood there in the empty alley terrified, but stood my ground anyways. Out came not one or two, but eight Slithraa slithered out of the slimy man-hole.

"Sss-so. Do you have what we arranged for?" The leader Trench said.

I sighed and tossed over the key. "I kept my word. Now it's your turn. Im out of your doghouse now." I pointed at them.

"Not ss-so fast, darling. You see we told you we needed to retrieve the key for the generator so our ultimate plan of darkness rules the night." Trench hissed.

"Um, I know. And it's right there. In your hands." I let out a chuckle.

"Oh but you ss-see young one, how are we supposed to know this is the correct key? You have to come with us-ss to…make sure." He let out an evil smirk.

"Not going to happen. You cannot switch the rules last minute. I am out of here." I said confidently beginning to walk away.

"GET HER!" Trench exclaimed from behind me. I turned around and saw all of them running- or should I say slithering- towards me. Theres nowhere to go but up. I jump on the top of a window sill to reach a clothes line that stuck out from the apartment window. I grabbed the line and did a reverse flip to land on top.

"This is easy, it's just tightroping." Once I walked far enough out, I ripped open my backpack to slide on my grip gloves. There was a small rope that dangled from the side of the building that I was able to jump to. I grabbed the rope and slammed into the wall. I let out a loud 'umph' as I hit the brick. I shook my head to focus. I looked up to see the top of the building. "That's really high." Yeah a whole 40 stories high. No big deal, right?

As I start to climb, I hear the screams of the snakes slowly fade away. I looked down and they were gone. They're probably going through the building. I finally made it to the top. I grabbed the last brick and hauled myself over. I stood up ready to fight, but no snakes were in sight. I waited a couple minutes before heading back down again. Just before I could do anything, I heard a blood curdling scream.

The top deck door swung open and out ran a man with a brown gi on screaming for his life. He hid behind the air conditioner by the door and started talking into his watch. "NINJA?! Ninja can you hear me? Ninjago City has become INFESTED with snakes again! Ninja can you read me? It's Dare-AH!" The man saw me and jumped. I don't think this guy was one of those popular ninjas that usually come around once in a while.

"I dare say SHOW YOURSELF!" He jumped up.

"Um, i'm literally standing right in front of you." I said not really knowing what to do.

"Are you with these guys? What am I talking about, of course your with them! I saw you talking to them in the alley. WHO IS YOUR LEADER?" The small man in the weird brown clothes started getting too close for comfort.

"Watch it!" I shoved him away from me. "I'm not with them. They're as much my enemy as they are yours." I crossed my arms.

"Listen, blondie, I'm not buying it. Ninja! Theres a girl. She's with them. She's a bad liar so watch out!" He shut off his comm and turned back to me. "Now don't get me upset or you'll face the wrath of the brownnn ninja." The strange man went into a crab position which I couldn't help but let out a chuckle.

"Hey man, I don't really care who you are. All that matters is that I leave. I don't want anything to do with these guys. Now if you'll excuse me," I started to take out my grappling hook before the brown ninja interrupted me.

"Wait! Take me with you. Please!" He knelt by me and grabbed my legs.

"For the last time, get off me!" I got heated and let out a light blast that made the ninja let go of me. I immediately grappled to the next building over. I looked back and felt bad, I knew that blast must've hurt his eyes. It was hot too so that must have no been fun. But my empty mind took control and I didn't look back anymore. I needed to get out of this city.

I always felt miserable using my powers. Why me, someone who lives in such darkness and regret, have the elemental power of light? I almost felt…embarrassed using them. I needed to clear my mind. It was time to get a drink.
