Chapter Eleven; The Sun Will Rise
"We fight."
They were coming. The snakes. The same ones who tortured me for weeks, maybe months. I can't remember. I can't wait to whip open a can of ass-whooping on them. I looked to my left, Lloyd, Zane, and Kai were charging up their powers as they stood in their front-stance. To my right, Cole, Jay and Nya were doing the same. I looked down at Coles arms, they were glowing bright orange with a touch of yellow. I saw the light reached up to his forehead. It was one of the most beautiful features of an elemental power I've ever seen.
While I was distracted by Cole, I saw Nya and Jay start to charge forward. Then I heard a big "Ninja-gooo!" I looked around me- everyone was gone. I turned my head towards the door. There were bursts of spinjitzu colliding around the room. Snakes were flying. I couldn't tell who was who. They were all moving so fast. All I knew was I had to learn how to do that. A snake shot a spear through Jay's spinjitzu and he went flying across the room. The same thing happened to Kai. They tried to do it to Zane too, but he dodged it and rammed into multiple snakes sending them flying like bowling pins.
I decided it was time for me to join the fight. I ran past the ninja who were still using spinjitzu. I slid across the floor, balancing with my elbow. My foot rammed right into one of the snakes' back, causing him to fall forward. I jumped on his back that was facing up. I grabbed his shoulder and grabbed his head, pulling it back towards my mouth. I whispered into it's ear "This is payback. For everything you've done." I stood up and started to kick the snake as hard as I could, sending him unconscious and making him bloody.
I did this to a couple others too, before two snakes pinned me down. I looked around to see if anyone was going to help me. Lloyd was shooting bursts of energy at the snakes and everyone else was teaming together to pin down the snakes or trying to throw them out the building windows. "Well since nobody is going to help me," I decided to try an ultra violet rey body-blast again, but more controlled. The last time I tried this, I burned down a bar. "Keep it together, Maya. You can do this." I felt a third snake jump on top of me and I felt something sharp dig into my shoulder. I screamed in pain. I was angry now. The light surged through my body, like before, and I started to glow gold and purple. Since it was purple, I knew I was in somewhat control. I arched my back as best as I could, my face was smooshed in the floor, but I was trying my best. Once I was ready, my shoulder blades released and my arms shot out to my side. The light blast was moderate, but enough to knock the snakes off of me. I stood up immediately after and started to blast other snakes with my powers.
Cole was right. I was afraid to use my powers. My emotions got the best of me. I felt confident. For once in my life, I felt confident in myself. I watched the others and copied them. Blasting one snake at a time with a blinding light. I was smiling under my hood. I felt good about my powers again.
"Way to go, Maya!" Cole screamed in the background. I looked at him and laughed. He continued to look at me as he punched snakes at the same time.
So this is what epic feels like. I like it.
We were doing really well, or at least I thought we were. The snake count seemed to deplete.
"Zane, is there any way to tell how many of these-UH-HEYA- we have left?" Kai asked as he blasted the snakes with his fire.
"I'm being surrounded. If I could get a bit of assistance-ergh-I could use my x-ray vision." Zane said as he was trying to fight off the surrounding snakes.
"I've got you, buddy!" Jay yelled. "LIGHTENING!" Shots of lightening pulsed through Jay's hands, electrifying the snakes around Zane. "He he. That's what you get you smelly snakes!" Jay laughed.
"There seems to be no more coming then the ones left in the room, But they could have always called for re-enforcements." Zane said as he scanned the building.
"Then as soon as we're done here, we need to leave. We'll have to regroup-yuh!" Lloyd said, kicking a snake.
"We need to make sure they haven't gotten to that generator yet. That will screw everything up if they- AH!" Nya yelled. I kicked that last snake that was grabbing me and looked over to Nya. Three snakes had grabbed her. Two grabbed her legs, and one had her arms pinned behind her back. They started to drag her out of the room and down the stairs.
"Nya!" I ran after her, pushing through the battle to get to her. They had began to drag her down the first couple of stairs. I took both of my hands and shot a double ball of light at the two snakes holding her legs. They fell down the staircase, most likely gaining a brain injury from it. I shot another sphere at the third snake holding her arms, but he dodged the shot. "Suit yourself!" I backed up a couple steps and charged forward with full speed. I grabbed the snake by the neck and we both flew down the flight of stairs- crashing at the bottom. I fell on the spot where I was stabbed, but I was so full of adrenaline that it didn't bother me. The snake however, was crushed from me falling on top of it. He was dead.
"Maya! Holy shit, that was amazing." Nya ran down the stairs and helped me up.
"I probably didn't have to do that, but it's the first thing that came to my mind." I chuckled wiping the shedded scales and slime off my hands.
"You-you saved my life." Nya put her hand on my shoulder. I couldn't tell if she was genuine or not.
"You would've done the same." I shrugged and jogged up the stairs to continue to help the boys.
"Wait, Maya," Nya called me back. I turned around and lifted my hood. "You're pretty badass. Thanks for that."
I really didn't know what to say. Was she starting to realize I wasn't here to just take over her life? "I uh...yeah. No problem. Come on, they boys need us." I waved her to come along.
"I swear they can't do anything on their own." Nya laughed.
I started laughing too. "I guess they can't."
Back upstairs, we walked in to a room full of dead snake corpses, somewhat alive snake victims, and five worn out ninja. "You guys finished without us?" Nya asked.
"Nya! You're okay!" Jay ran over to Nya embracing her with hundreds of kisses.
"All thanks to Maya here. She is one badass ninja." Nya looked at me and smiled. I blushed. I couldn't think of anything to say, everyone was looking at me. Except Kai he was looking at Nya with wide eyes.
"I guess you passed the test then. You really would make a great addition to the team!" Lloyd said fist-bumping me.
"Wait, you mean that?" I turned my head towards Lloyd.
"Of course he does! We all saw you kick ass here today." Cole smiled.
"I did too," Dareth popped out of his hiding corner. "I...I was wrong about you, chick. You're good. Really good. But don't think this means I won't keep my eye on you." Dareth raised his eyebrow.
Everyone just laughed.
...
We eventually made it back to the Bounty. Exhausted, everyone stumbled from their mechs onto the deck.
"Ninja! You're all here. And safe!" Wu said approaching us.
"It was an unexpected attack, but we're all here." Zane smiled.
"Maya got stabbed with a trench knife, she-" Nya pointed to my back that was stained with blood.
"I'll be fine. It was on my right side. It didn't hit anything vital." I said grabbing my shoulder.
Wu nodded and asked, "What about everyone else? Is everyone alright?"
Everyone else nodded their heads. "We're alright, Master." Lloyd said. Dareth nodded in agreement, even though he knew he did nothing to help out the team today.
"Your mother will be relieved," Wu eyed Lloyd then grazed his gaze towards my eyes. I quickly looked away. "Come, everyone, Pixel and Misako have created a hot meal for everyone downstairs. Clean up and replenish."
"BET!" Kai yelled and ran downstairs first. The rest of the boys followed close behind him, Nya stayed with me.
"If, you want, I can fix that up for you real quick, we can go to the sick bay." Nya suggested.
"Uh, sure. That'd be nice." I nodded and followed her downstairs. We walked down the hallway into a room I hadn't seen yet. There was a table in the middle of the room, and medicine cabinets.
"We have an electrical room to fix up Zane or Pixel if need be, but this room is for the humans." Nya chuckled.
"Oh," I laughed.
"Go ahead and take a seat. I'll get the stitch kit." Nya said.
I nodded and hopped on the table. The pain of the stab wound was starting to kick in. I winced and grabbed my shoulder.
"Do you want Zane to numb it? I would, but I don't know how-"
"No. I'm fine. Just get it over with." I interrupted.
"You sure? It's not the best feeling in the world." Nya said.
"Yeah. I'll be okay. Just do it." I slowly slid off my gi top, revealing only a sports bra I was wearing and the stab wound next to my right strap.
Nya cleaned it first. I gasped when she poured the rubbing alcohol over it.
"Sorry," Nya winced.
"It's fine. Do what you have to." I said squinting in pain.
After she cleaned it out, Nya started to thread her needle. "So uh, how do you feel about everyone wanting you on the team now?"
"I mean, I don't know if I even want to do it. I've only done one 'mission' with y'all. Look how it turned out." I said.
"Yeah? I mean, I think it was successful. We got rid of a shit ton of snakes today. That's a win." Nya said.
"Maybe, but I'm still thinking about it. I'll do the training like Lloyd said, and see where it goes from there-argh!" I yelled as I felt the needle pierce my skin.
"After what I saw today, you already seemed like you knew how to use your powers well. The only thing maybe is some better fighting options than committing suicide down a staircase." Nya laughed.
I laughed with her. "Yeah, I could've pulled that off better. I also really want to learn spinjitzu. It looks sick when y'all do it."
"I remember when I learned spinjitzu. I'll give you a secret, spot yourself on your spins or you'll end up coming out of your spinjitzu seeing two of everything and not being able to walk." Nya said.
"Interesting. I'll keep it in mind." I replied. I had a feeling she was starting to like me. Someone only gives you tips when they like you. I was starting to like her too. She seemed super chill.
"There. All done." She said handing me a mirror.
I held it behind my back and looking in the mirror next to the counter. "Wow. Looks great! Barely noticeable." I said.
"I didn't want you to have an ugly scar," Nya walked over to a cupboard and pulled out a few sweatshirts, sweatpants, and a couple pairs of socks. "These were mine. You can use them until we can fix your gi. I know the boys have some old clothes they haven't worn in years. I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you got to keep those too."
"Thank you, Nya, I appreciate this. A lot. I wish...eh never mind."
"No, what is it?" She asked.
"I wish we could've gotten off on a better start." I shrugged.
"Yeah, about that, I'm sorry for getting up your ass on everything. What you and Cole do is none of my business." Nya held her hands out.
"Thanks, but if anything, I could really use a girl friend to help me out. Not just with guy stuff, but figuring out shit in general."
"I get that, even with Pixel here, I still feel like I'm the only girl sometimes. It's hard I get it. I'm here if you need anything." Nya said starting to walk out of the room
"Me too, you know, if you do need something. I don't know how much help I will be, but I am an ear to talk to." I smiled.
"Of course. I appreciate it, now come on, let's go eat."
I took a deep breath and smelled dumplings and chicken, my two favorite things. I almost ran to the kitchen I was so hungry.
There was one thing I realized, Nya told me that everyone wanted me on the team. Everyone meaning her too. I think I finally got on her good side. I was relieved. I would have never thought twice about leaving if not everybody wished me to be here. Now that I know everyone here wants me, I think I'll stay. Besides, its free food if I do, might as well.
