As the hours went by Kyo remained unconscious leaving everyone anxious and uncomfortable. Telling from the sudden weather they all knew even without watching the news that a hurricane was coming and a bad one. Yuki slumped further down on the couch trying to pay attention to the TV instead of his thoughts when Hatori came walking down the stairs. Shigure was the first one to greet him rushing towards the stairs. Yuki watched silently as they talked.
Yuki strained to hear but they were far too quiet. Shigure then nodded and followed Hatori up the stairs. Yuki turned back around before standing up and following after them. Luckily for him, the girls had long ago fallen asleep.
He crept behind them ignoring the weird feeling coursing inside his gut. His heart pounding as he silently followed them towards Kyo's room. Yuki stood outside the room leaning his head back against the wall as he listened in.
"Hey, Kyo. Good to see you awake". Yuki's eyes widened as he peered over the corner to look into the room. Much to his surprise, there was Kyo still laying down in the bed but his eyes open and staring up at Hatori and Shigure. Kyo didn't answer for awhile seeming far too exhausted to even sit up. He opened his mouth only to fall into a coughing fit. Hatori helped him sit up and handed him a glass of water for his sore throat while Shigure rubbed his back.
"You alright?".
Hatori asked taking the glass from Kyo when he finished. Kyo nodded leaning back heavily against the wall.
"This storm isn't helping him". Hatori muttered with a frown. Shigure nodded. "Should we". Hatori closed his eyes and lifted his hand to his temples. "I think we should let Kyo rest some more before letting the others know he's awake. He still isn't quite on the mend yet". Shigure nodded. Yuki stared at Kyo his heart pounding.' Why did I do this? What if I get caught? This was a bad idea but I can't leave'. He was mentally panicked. It was when he was about to rush back downstairs that Kyo seemed to notice his presence even as tired and out of it he was. Yuki froze. He froze half worried Kyo would get pissed and start a fight but the other just tilted his head to the side in confusion before closing his eyes. Yuki let out a sigh of relief. "If you're going to stand outside and eavesdrop might as well just join us". Yuki's eyes widened. He walked inside with his head down refusing to meet the other's eyes embarrassed that he got caught.
"Hello Yuki. Were you that worried about our little cat here". Shigure teased.
Yuki ignored him and continued to stand in the doorway. Hatori walking past him and returning with a bowl of water and a wet cloth a few minutes later. "If your going to be in here you might as well take a seat". Hatori said as he dipped the wet cloth into the cold water and rung it out before gently placing it over Kyo's sweaty forehead. Yuki nodded moving to sit at the window when Shigure offered to let him sit in the chair beside Kyo's bed while he went off to prepare Kyo some soup.
He sat there quietly staring off at the wall avoiding looking at Kyo. He wanted to ask him why he saved him, why he jumped in front of him knowing he could die but he couldn't bring himself to speak. A part of him wondered if it was just so he could finally die, to be free from the suffering being the cat zodiac brought him but he wouldn't do that, would he?. He wouldn't leave Tohru like that. He closed his eyes briefly before turning to look at Kyo.
Saying he looked bad was an understatement. He would have thought Kyo dead if it wasn't for the slow rise and fall of his chest. Yuki signed getting ready to finally asked the question that has been weighing down on his mind when Kyo spoke first breaking the awkward silence that was no doubt consuming him as well.
Kyo's eyes were still shut as he spoke. His voice was hoarse and weak. "Are you okay?". Yuki looked up startled not realizing he had closed his eyes and stared wide-eyed at Kyo. The same Kyo that hated him, the same Kyo that didn't give a damn how he the rat zodiac was doing.
If he wasn't so surprised he would have smiled. For as long as he remembered all he wanted was to be friends with the cat, but the other never felt the same always making sure he knew just how much he hated him and wanted nothing to do with him.
When Yuki didn't respond Kyo opened his eyes slowly tossing the rag over his eyes to the side to look over the boy beside his bed. Neither one of them noticed the older man watching them intently nor did they care. "Did you hear me... or are you deaf". Kyo wheezed coughing slightly. Yuki looked up worriedly at the cat who waved him off placing his hand over his chest.
"I'm not the one who got shot". Yuki responded calmly. Kyo didn't respond. Yuki watched as Kyo leaned further against the wall seeming to fall back into unconsciousness before jerking forward into another coughing fit, this one however more fierce and wet.
Hatori quickly rushed forward but Yuki didn't see what happened next after he took off out of the door. The blood was still fresh in his mind.
