STORY/ SCENARIO: Two lifelong travelling companions recall how they first met shortly after leaving home for the first time.
VARIATIONS: I have deleted the repeat of bars 1-4 so that these are now played only once per verse (When I tiptoed...I met you). Alternatively the first playing can remain as instrumental only.
1ST VOICE:
When I tiptoed out along the way,
I didn't know what to do -
It's true -
And the wind was cold and blew all day,
But luckily I met you.
You saw me by a boulder,
Sitting, growing older;
Said, 'Where are you going?
Put your arm around my shoulder!
I can't change the weather;
Let's go on together'.
Suddenly the sky was blue!
2ND VOICE:
The mountains!
The fountains!
BOTH:
What a lovely view!
2ND VOICE:
All alone I thought: 'The world is wide -
Its troubles I well can read -
I need
A companion marching at my side,
Wherever this road may lead'.
I saw you 'neath a cherry,
Weeping. I was very
Nervous, all unknowing
What to say: it seemed so scary!
'End', I croaked, 'your sorrow -
Look toward tomorrow -
Come with me'. And you agreed!
1ST VOICE:
My other!
My brother!
BOTH:
Yes, oh yes indeed!
We were partners from that moment on;
Impossible to recall -
So tall -
Is the list of places we have gone,
I struggle to count them all!
Rejoicing, laughing, singing,
Hope and comfort bringing
When the tears are flowing,
When the painful poison's stinging.
As our fates unravel,
Arm in arm we travel
On the surface of this ball.
