Miko and Monk
Chapter 10
Couple hours later, the duo found some old history and folklore books based around 500 years ago. They were hoping that doing some research and can hopefully piece together what happened. Neither miko nor monk could sense any demons in this current time period. Either no more existed or they have camouflaged themselves to blend in with humans.
Sitting under the Goshinboku tree, Kagome and Miroku were reading thru the books.
"Uggghhh! There is nothing in this book! It's like nothing ever existed while we were there." as Kagome slammed the book shut.
"Hey! Don't take out your anger on that book!" as Miroku snatched the book and cradled it in his arms.
They both laughed.
A familiar voice called out "Kagome. Are you home?"
Kagome got up with Miroku following to see who it was.
"Hi Yuka. What brings you by?"
"Well since my friend is too busy to hang out, I thought I'd stop by for a bit and I brought some chocolate chips that I made this morning." holding out the plate of cookies.
"That smells delicious!" as Miroku came from behind Kagome.
Yuka blushed at the compliment. "Wait until you taste them!"
Kagome stood watching their interaction, suddenly felt left out and a bit jealous. "Hey let's go inside. I'll make some tea to go with the cookies" as Kagome opened the door motioning to come in.
"Wow! These are really good! Soft and chewy!" as Miroku started on his third cookie with much delight.
Kagome and Yuka giggled.
"What have you been up to since graduation, Kagome?" Yuka sips on her tea.
"I've been helping mom around the house and grandpa and Miroku with the shrine. We have been doing cleaning and repairs." Kagome chatted.
"Have you decided to go to college? It's not too late to register. Classes begin next week." (Long Pause)
"Not this term. I want to help out around here first and I might get a job." Kagome looks down in her tea cup.
Miroku noticed her sadness. "What kind of job were you thinking of getting Kagome?' trying to change the mood.
"I was thinking I might do proper training as a miko. I'm thinking of taking over the shrine. Maybe you can help me Miroku?" she smiled at him.
'Much better. I don't like seeing her sad.'
Yuka observed quietly at the interactions between the duo.
'It's obvious they like each other. He seems to be a good match for Kagome. Why doesn't she move on from that two timing jerk?'
"Miroku, do you have a girlfriend back at home?" Yuka looked at him curiously.
Miroku's expression turned sad. "I don't know if she will wait for me while I'm here. She wants to settle down but due to circumstances, I can't right now."
Kagome felt bad to know Miroku was missing Sango.
'I need to change the subject. This isn't good.'
"Well if she can't wait for me, that's fine, I'll move on. That means we were not destined to be together. Maybe my soulmate is somewhere out there waiting for me." Miroku gave his mischievous smile.
Both girls laughed.
"Who knows your soulmate might be right in front of you?" as Yuka got up with a smile at Miroku. "I gotta get going. It was nice hanging out together. Next time let's meet up at the arcade. I'll bring my boyfriend so we can go on a double date." (wink) "Bye!" as Yuka left out the door.
Kagome was staring at the door.
'Yuka has a boyfriend! Here I was thinking she was interested in Miroku. Why did I feel a bit jealous? She just wanted to come by to hang out. I am a horrible friend!'
"Kagome, what's a double date?" Miroku asked curiously.
