Guys, I am so sorry about the months delay with this story. This one sat on the back burner while I focused on Hart of a Kinsella. And in the meantime, I started a different story for Zade, which won't be posted for a while yet. I do promise that this one will get tossed back into the rotation once more.
I did drop the ball on this chapter. Turns out, I started it months ago and left it for whatever reason, and once I came back for it; I forgot what I was writing. I am truly sorry for that as well.
Thank you JustWriter2! You have given me so much more to think of when it comes to this story from where I was stuck, trying to gap some things together. And I can imagine the whole town making an event out of it. And I'm more than grateful for the help when the times comes for Zoe to have a Bat Mitzvah. It is intriguing to think of what could've been if they started the show differently.
CarissaCampbell thank you for sticking with it, even though you thought it unrealistic at first.
To everyone else that leaves reviews and supports all my stories in this fandom, thank you!
Enjoy!
"Mind telling us why you couldn't join us last Saturday?" Lemon asked, sitting at the park with Annabeth, Crickett and Zoe fresh off of her grounding for a week. Her dad had bargained her grounding from two weeks to a week.
"I got in a bit of trouble," Zoe shrugged, to her it wasn't a big; it did land her in trouble, but in the end, it was worth it. She got to spend some extra time with her dad and if that's what her punishment is like every time, then who is she to complain?
"You're killing us," Crickett whined, wanting the details as much as her friends. With the way Zoe's been able to do things around town, they didn't know she could get into trouble.
"What Crickett means is, what did you do?" Annabeth asked, in a calm matter.
Zoe rolled her eyes. "Why does it matter what I did? I got into trouble; you shouldn't need more than that," she snapped at her friends. She understood they cared about her and wanted to know because they are her friends, she just didn't feel like sharing, and that's something they should respect.
With it being the last month of Summer vacation, she did want to enjoy time with her friends. She's never had a problem hanging out with them, and with Wade on a fishing trip with his dad and Jesse, that left her with plenty of time to do girly things with her friends without feeling bad about ditching anyone.
"Relax, Zoe," sighed Lemon. "We didn't think we were prying into what seems to be a personal problem. We're curious as to what made our friend act out," Lemon explained.
"I didn't act out," Zoe sighed, shaking her head. "It's stupid, really," she stated, rolling her eyes. Something so stupid she didn't get why she had been grounded for to begin with.
"Then share so we can laugh about it together," Annabeth said, giving her friend a gentle smile.
"Fine," Zoe groaned. "I missed curfew," she shrugged. She didn't think it was a big deal, and she was safe, hanging out with not only Wade but Jesse as well.
"How late are we talkin' here?" Lemon asked, popping a grape in her mouth. Her mom sent a picnic basket filled with fruit, sweets and plenty to drink.
"Two hours," Zoe shrugged. She tried to leave to where she'd be home by curfew, but when you have the Kinsella brothers against you, it's really hard to say no. "Do you know how hard it is to tell Wade and Jesse no and for them to be okay with that answer?" She asked them.
"To an extant," Annabeth nodded. "They make it hard to say no to begin with," she laughed, taking a drink of her lemonade.
"Understatement of the freaking century," Zoe mumbled, reaching for an apple slice. "They have the same stupid pout; it's ridiculous," she ranted, shaking her head.
"What exactly happened to have them pouting at you to stay?" Crickett asked, eating away at her chocolate chip cookie.
Sighing Zoe jumped into the story of what happened the night she got into trouble for hanging out with Wade and Jesse.
"What are you two doing?" Zoe asked, watching her best friend and his brother walk by her house, laughing in good spirits.
"Heading out fishing," Wade told her, coming to a stop. "You can come," he offered.
"Fishing this late?" Zoe checked, the sun ready to set in a matter of minutes. Wade and Jesse nodding sporting the same smirk. "Isn't it a little late for fishing?"
"Night fishing is the best fishing," Jesse remarked. "You coming or not?" He asked.
"Hold on," she told them, rushing inside her house, seeing her dad in the kitchen. "Can I go fishing with Wade and Jesse?" She asked giving her dad a small pout.
Harley chuckled, grabbing a glass to get some water. "Curfew is in an hour and a half, but I will push it back an extra half hour," he told his daughter. "And sweetie, don't get covered in mud," he warned her, heading back to the study. Zoe rolled her eyes, grabbing a sweater, not finding her dads warning very funny.
"I've got two hours," she told the brothers, meeting them on the sidewalk, tying her sweater around her waist.
"You my dear friend, are in for the best two hours of your young life," Wade smirked, tossing an arm around her shoulders.
Zoe wasn't so sure about that. She didn't think you could have a whole lot of fun fishing at night, with nothing more than moonlight or the small lantern Jesse carried, not to mention the bugs. She really hoped that one of them had some bug spray in the stuff they carried.
"Won't we get into trouble?" She asked, seeing the Mayor's house from where they set up to fish.
"If you get caught, sure," Jesse shrugged, getting his fishing pole ready as Wade did the same with his own pole. "He won't care, if anything he'll join in," Jesse assured her, putting her fears at ease.
"As long as we stay away from his pond, we'll be fine," Wade informed her. "We're not even on his land," he stated, wanting to put her at more ease.
Zoe relaxed, sitting on the bank to the small lake; Jesse on her right and Wade on her left, close by to help her out if she needed it. She was starting to become a pro at casting her line out. The only thing she needed help with is the worm on her hook and the fish if she so happened to catch one. Maybe one day she would dare touch the worm to put it on her hook, but it wouldn't be for a few years. She wanted no part in the slimy little thing.
"It'll be the best two hours of your life, they said," she mumbled under her breath. "Night fishing is the best fishing, they said," she mocked, making sure the brothers heard her.
"Zoe, we've only been fishing for a total of 15 minutes," Jesse laughed. Sure it felt like hours, but that's going to happen when you sit there without getting a single bite. As fun as fishing can be, it can be a total bore when the fish don't want to take the bait.
"My best two hours are better spent in bed reading," Zoe commented, slowly reeling her line in.
"Reading is not better than real-life adventures, Zo," Wade told her, reeling his own line in, to see if his worm was still on the hook, or if it had been stripped off. "You still have another hour before you need to go, just give it a shot, okay?" Wade asked, giving his friend the saddest face he could muster. It only made Zoe laugh.
"If no one has caught a fish in the next half hour, I am out of here," she warned, casting her line back into the water.
"No pressure," Wade chuckled. Zoe shoved him, moving her pole wishing a fish would be tempted enough to take the bait.
Within another 5 minutes, the fish started to bite, and they weren't able to keep up with the fish. The second the lines hit the water a fish would be biting on all the lines. And as soon as they started they ended just as quickly, putting an end to the fun they were having.
"Boys it has been fun, but I need to be going," she informed the brothers, standing up to reel her line in.
"You sure you have to go?" Wade asked, reeling his line in as well, wanting to walk Zoe back to her house. Bluebell was a safe, even in the dark, but it didn't mean he had to let her walk alone.
"I'm pretty positive," Zoe nodded. She didn't want to be late. Her dad may be more laid back, but her mom? She was the strict one.
"They're gonna start biting again here real quick," Jesse stated, his eyes out on the water, watching the small ripples in the moons' reflection on the inky surface.
"So stay and have fun," Wade taunted her, complete with a smirk.
"You know he's right; you won't get this kind of adventure and fun in any book," Jesse smirked, turning to look at Zoe.
"That may be true, but curfew," she told them. Despite her dad being more paid back, she didn't think either of her parents would be okay with her staying out past curfew, and she did want to have a life. It may be a small town where nothing bad happens, but rules are rules, and she didn't want to break them.
"You can spare five more minutes, Zo," Wade shrugged. Zoe shook her head; curfew meant business, and if she wanted to spend time with friends tomorrow she'd get home. "Please?" Wade asked with a pout.
"I can't," she sighed, feeling her will to leave start to crumble at the look on Wade's face.
"Sure ya can," Jesse shrugged. "It's rather easy," he shared. "It's not just for your benefit, but for mine, please don't leave me here with this one," Jesse said, pointing at Wade and giving Zoe a pout.
"Fine," she sighed. " Five more minutes," she told them.
Only her five minutes kept turning into five minutes repeatedly, and before she knew it, she was rushing up to her house two hours after curfew where she was met with ticked off parents.
"Girl time is going to do you good," Lemon nodded. "My mom got me a new makeup kit; it's a kid one she won't buy me anything else," Lemon huffed, rolling her eyes. "And nail polish, let's go have a spa day in my room," she commented, collecting the food and drinks sitting out to put back into the basket.
Annabeth and Crickett are excited for the little spa day in Lemon's room. Zoe was happy about it as well, but she'd be lying if she didn't say that she has just as much fun with Wade and getting dirty. She liked what she did with Wade when they hung out, and it wasn't just for the company. They have fun and make the other laugh like no other, but they had fun. If it wasn't fun, they made it that way.
The same could be said for her time with the girls. They had fun, just different types of fun. It may sound like she doesn't enjoy her time with her other friends, but she does. She has tons of fun with them. She likes that she can just be when she's with Wade. When she's with the girls, is all about girly things, and she likes it, she does. Just when it comes down to it, she likes spending time with Wade. Maybe that will change when she gets older, she doesn't know, and she's not going to question it.
"Are you still with us Zoe?" Questioned an annoyed Lemon, hand on her hip.
"Where else would I be?" Zoe asked with a smirk, pointing to the light shade of pink her friend held out, not wanting the awful green color that looked as if it came from the rear end of a goose.
"That's very well what we want to know," Annabeth commented with a giggle, looking over the makeup Lemon has.
"Obviously, she's in a world of her own," Crickett muttered, helping AB pick out a purple glittery eyeshadow.
"If you want to be elsewhere, you can go," Lemon stated, a hint of hurt seeping into her words. Hearing how hurt her friend is, one of the very first ones she made upon moving to town, hurt her. "We're not going to keep you here."
"Where else would I want to be?" Zoe asked with a frown. "Wade's not my only friend and I surely can't make him over," she retorted, laughing at the very thought of seeing Wade in bright pink eyeshadow and little glittery hair clips placed in his hair. It might be a sight to see, but it wouldn't happen.
"I doubt he'd be a willing participant," AB nodded.
"It would be a struggle for real," Zoe laughed. "And there wouldn't be much fun in that. We need to have a little girl time in our lives," she commented, holding her hands out for Lemon to paint them.
She meant it too. As fun as it is to make a mess and enjoy her days where Wade is concerned, sometimes he can be a bit too much of a boy, and she needs her girls. To have a little pink in her life instead of the yucky brown color of mud. Dress up and daydreaming about years to come, were equally as fun as learning a new skill while out with Wade. Sometimes you need the soft giggles from your dearest girl friends.
