Miko and Monk

Chapter 16

Kagome silently cried. "Miroku...I remember everything now. I am so sorry. This is my fault you are trapped here." "Kagome..." Miroku was interrupted. "Let me tell you what I remember, please" Miroku nodded in agreement. Kagome finally calmed herself to tell her side…

Naraku was defeated with the help of our allies, Sesshomaru and Koga along with his wolf pack. There were tears of happiness and tears of sadness. Kikyo gave the last of her soul to Kohaku so he can live. It was without malice or regret. She died peacefully. Inuyasha didn't realize she was dead until he found her lifeless body. That was the first time I heard him howl in pain. My heart broke. I knew then that he loved Kikyo more than anyone else. When I got the jewel, I had to make an unselfish wish to rid the world of it. Inuyasha wanted me to wish Kikyo back to life. I told him it's selfish and would cause the jewel to come back powerful and evil. He got so angry at me that he was going to attack me. Sesshomaru stopped him in time. He then ran off and disappeared. No one knew where he went. I made the wish for the jewel to disappear forever from this world and it was granted. I needed to go home to recover and get away to think. I wasn't sure if the well would let me thru. To my surprise it did. I told the others I will be back in time for the wedding within 10 days and I was going to finally graduate from high school. Time passed and I returned in time for the wedding. Miroku was over the moon that he was finally going to marry Sango and settle down. Sango was withdrawn and not too happy. I figured it was jitters. Inuyasha returned that same day. His eyes looked empty. All he told me was that we need to talk but after the wedding. I agreed. We kept our distance from each other. I focused my attention on Sango and helping her get ready. On the day of the wedding, Sango cried and cried. She confided in me that she didn't love Miroku but felt obligated to marry him. I asked her why she felt like that but she wouldn't tell me. There was a loud commotion going on outside. We ran out to see what was happening. I saw Inuyasha holding back Miroku. He was angry and ready to fight. There was an unfamiliar man standing close by. Next thing I knew Sango ran into that man arms and kissed him deeply. I never saw her do that with Miroku. Everyone was in shock. The man name was Tama Mizuki. He was a demon slayer and lived in the same village as Sango and Kohaku. He was away on a mission when the village was destroyed and everyone died. When he got back he found no survivors so he wandered the land. Until he heard about our pack that had a female demon slayer. He found out it was Sango and was determined to find her. Word spread that Naraku was dead and we all lived in this village that was how he got here. This man was Sango childhood friend and fiancée. They were to marry when he returned from his mission. Since she never heard from him, she assumed he died in his mission. They loved each other. That's why she could not love Miroku. He begged and pleaded for her to stay but she watched him in disgust and left with that man. How could she do this? Why could she not be honest? My heart broke for him. Miroku destroyed the wedding decorations and lit the wedding clothes on fire. He grabbed several bottles of sake and went into the forest. I didn't see Inuyasha when Miroku left. I figured he followed him. After two days, I went to look for them. I found Miroku leaning against a tree with a small fire in front of him and nursing the sake bottle. He was alone. I sat next to him quietly. Couple hours later, I left to hunt and when I came back he was asleep. I tended to the fire and stayed with him. By the fourth day, the sake ran out. He finally spoke. "I hate that spiteful b****. She played with my feelings. Lied to me. All those times she slap me and belittled me, she meant it. All of it. She gave me her body and I took it believing I was her one and only. Lies! All lies!" until he finally broke down and cried and cried in my lap until he fell asleep. Miroku slept for a whole day. When he woke up, he was a different person. He was determined to move on from this ordeal. But he would be leaving the village to travel and help others. I began to cry. I cried because I felt his pain. I know what it's like to love someone who never loved you back. Miroku wiped away my tears and held me until I calmed down. He told me that his soulmate must still be out there waiting for him so he has to go and that my soulmate might be out there waiting for me. We hugged once more and as we pulled away, we were lost in each for a moment that we shared a soft kiss. At that moment, I decided what my decision to do with my life. We returned to the village and Inuyasha appeared. He did not quite look like himself. He wanted to talk to me. I told Miroku not to leave the village as yet and come find me when he finished.

We went to the Goshinboku tree. Our favorite spot. Inuyasha looked like he was anguished but trying to hold it in. He told me he was sorry when he almost attacked me when I refused to make his wish. He had to leave to collect himself as he felt he was losing his mind. He said realized that he did care about Kikyo but never loved her. She was his first friend and love so he felt he owed her. But his true feelings are for me. "Kagome please be my mate." My heart was overjoyed at that moment. I forgot my decision. I said yes and jumped into his arms. He then kissed me but it was aggressive busting my lip and bleeding and he pushed me hard against the tree. His hands was going underneath my clothes. I panicked and yelled sit. I grabbed my bow and arrow pointed it at him. When he got up his eyes was turning red. The demon side was trying to come out. He lounged at me but I jumped out the way and yelled sit again. He growled and the demon took over. "I want your soul to bring my true mate back to life. I have no need for a w***e like you. I gave up my Tessaiga to the witch in exchange for Kikyo to come back to life". He jumped at me again but I jumped out the way with me yelling sit, sit, sit! He tore my clothes. I was crying uncontrollably. Out of nowhere, Miroku appeared between us. He was unarmed but I saw the binding sutras. I followed his lead to lower my guard. At that very moment, Inuyasha aimed at me, claws extended, cutting my arm as Miroku pulled me back. We fell backwards into the well. Inuyasha jumped in with his arm reaching out to grab us but everything went into blackness. After that, we awoke at the bottom of the well in the present time.
