Chapter 19
It was Saturday evening. The family decided to make it pizza and movie night. Ami-san was always insistent that no matter how busy everyone is, they sit down to dinner every night and every once in a while do things together, like game night or go to the lake for a picnic. As everyone was getting comfortable in the living room, there was a knock at the door.
"I got it" as Kagome called from the kitchen.
There was silence followed by a loud scream. Miroku ran over ready to fight when he saw Kagome hugging someone. He was confused. "Kagome everything ok?" as put his hand on her shoulder.
She pulled away and he saw a pair of emerald green eyes looking at him.
"Hi Miroku." as he cheesed a bright smile. He stood there watching this young guy about 5 feet 5 inches with red hair slightly muscular built.
"Awww come on, don't you recognize me! It's me, Shippo." he teased.
"Shippo you have grown up!" as Miroku embraced him. "Come in Shippo. Let me introduce you to my family." as Miroku pulled him inside.
Shippo finally met mama, grandpa and Souta. He joined them for pizza and was catching up.
"Shippo have you been here all this time?" Kagome asked. "I travel between Japan and Australia often for work. I help demons and hanyous settle in the human world. I provide them with identities, home, job, health care, that sort of stuff. The duo looked wide eyed at him.
"Wait, there are still demons and hanyous? I figured they were all gone because neither Miroku nor I could sense any." Kagome asked.
"So that means the others…" Miroku caught himself and stopped midsentence looking at Kagome.
"I'm sorry, no one has survived but me and both of you."
"What happened to everyone Shippo?" Kagome eyes filled with tears.
"Ever since that day when both of you fell into the well, Inuyasha tried to pass thru it but he couldn't. The subjugation beads broke resulting in the spell breaking. He was battling himself with his demon part trying to take over but the demon side won. He was never able to bring Kikyo back to life. Inuyasha snapped and totally lost it. He went on rampages and killed innocent people including Rin and Kaede. I got away with some broken bones and cuts. In the end, Lord Sesshomaru killed him. After I was healed, I went away and focused solely on my studies. I heard that Sango and her husband moved back to the old demon slayer village to rebuild it. Kohaku went with them. Sango died in childbirth with her 1st child. The baby didn't make it. Her husband committed seppuku shortly after. Kohauku took over as the village leader and died of old age. As far as I know, there aren't any demon slayers left. Sesshomaru never mated. He went into seclusion in his palace after he killed Inuyasah and his lost of Rin. He died of sickness compared to what cancer is today."
As Shippo was emotional, Kagome hugged him with tears falling. Miroku placed his arm around Kagome and Shippo.
After a while, Miroku spoke "how were you able to survive Shippo? What made you do what you're doing?"
"I was able to blend in with humans and adapted into my surroundings. As the world changed, so did I. Every major change from electricity to technology, I learned everything I could. I invested in stocks and bonds, so that I am able to help those in need. There are still many hiding in the mountains and have been driven out of their homes. I know how it feels, so I dedicated my life to helping them."
"That's amazing Shippo! You have come a long way. I am so proud of you. How did you find us?" Kagome questioned.
"That's easy. I remembered the time you came to the past from 500 years in the future. I hired a private investigator to look for you." cheesing Shippo. "I am happy I could find part of my family. I've missed you guys. I was deeply hurt with Inuyasha and Sango betraying you both. My family was torn apart. I did meet up with Soten about 400 years ago. We are married, have 2 kids and 1 more on the way. I'll bring them next time. I wanted to see you guys first." Shippo cried.
They all shared a group hug.
"Shippo I am proud of you. I'd love to meet your family." Miroku letting go.
"Oh yes! Your family is now our family too!" Shippo stood up. "I gotta go before Souten starts calling. I gotta get her fudge swirl ice cream. Here is my card with all my information. Miroku, I am gonna help you set up an identity so you can be able do more in this time. Kagome, tell your family I am happy to finally met them." Shippo hugged them both and left to get his pregnant wife ice cream.
