Ana and Sarah are OCs.

Ana looks at the calendar to see that it's February 14th. Valentine's Day. The one day where couples can be all lovey-dovey and no one gives two rats' asses about the public show of affection. And unlike all of the previous Valentine's Day, this one will be different.

Ana remembers what her mother used to tell her years ago. She'd said it over and over again.

"Some things matter more than love."

She kept her mouth shut and just nodded along with what her mother was saying. Alone, she would sit and try and think. What could matter more than love? Love, the one thing that everyone craves. It can either save you or be your death.

Ana sighs as she sits down in the Great Hall. It's decorated in reds, pinks, and whites. There are streamers up in the rafters and floating hearts all around. Couples were laughing and hugging each other. Ana sits down near the edge of the Ravenclaw table. Away from all of the couples, who are sitting near the middle.

"ANA!"

Ana stiffens and turns towards the door to see Sarah standing there. Her sandy blonde hair is up in a messy bun, instead of her usual dutch braid. Although different, Ana still thinks that it helps bring her pretty green eyes out. Ana smiles and waves at Sarah as she heads towards her.

"Hey Sarah. How's everything?" Ana asks as Sarah sits down next to her.

"Everything's been alright. Though I've been having boys asking me left and right to be their valentine. I'm tempted to hex the next boy that asks me," Sarah explains as she grabs some eggs and places them on her plate.

"I'm sorry to hear that, but I have to agree that you are such a lovely catch. Anyways, they've been leaving me alone," Ana tells her.

"Lucky you. Hey, did you hear that Lucas and Dorthy were spotted kissing in Myrtle's bathroom?" Sarah says, stuffing eggs into her mouth.

"Really? Hold on, isn't Lucas a year older than us? Also, isn't he on the Ravenclaw team?"

"Yup! And Dorthy is on the Hufflepuff team. I heard they ran into each other on their first match against each other. That's how they met. I've heard that they've been going out since their fourth year. Fourth year! How can they keep their relationship a secret for two years?" Sarah asks as she looks at Ana.

"Look, different couples can hide their relationship for different amounts of time. My grandparents only lasted an hour before they were found out," Ana explains as she takes a bit of her sausage.

"Your mother's parents or your father's parents?" Sarah asks, looking over at Ana.

"Father's. My mother's parents were in an arranged marriage."

"Ah, ok. So, what do you want to do today?" Sarah asks Ana.

"Go to classes, finish my homework, and maybe finish reading that one really great book that Dad sent to me."

"Is the book about that ghost girl? What was her name again? It starts with a 'M', I remember that."

"Mystic. Her name is Mystic," Ana reminds Sarah as she snaps her fingers.

"Bingo! So, what's it about again?"

"Sarah, I literally told you about it yesterday."

"I'm sorry! I was a bit distracted," Sarah says, smirking and wiggling her eyebrows.

"S-Sarah!"

Sarah bursts out laughing as Ana feels her face heat up. Ana grumbles as she turns towards her food. She then picks at it for a couple of seconds. Sarah's laughing soon fades away, a bit too soon for Ana's liking.

"Aw, come on Ana! I'm just teasing you," Sarah says, looking at Ana. "I know you love it when I tease you."

Ana sighs, as she turns to look at Sarah. A smile tugs lightly at the corner of her mouth. Ana rolls her eyes as she bumps her shoulder lightly against Sarahs.

"Come on, we should head off to class," Ana says as she stands up.

"Alright! Let's go," Sarah says.

She grabs Ana's hand and starts to drag them to their first class of the day. Ana giggles at Sarah's antics. The butterflies in her stomach flutter every so slightly.

Yes, this Valentine's Day is different. Everyone else is oblivious to it, and she's ok with that. As long as Sarah stays by her side, that's all that matters.
