Minerva McGonagall was tired. After a long day of shadowing Vernon and Petunia Dursley, she just wants to curl up in her bed and stay there for the rest of the day. Unfortunately, that wasn't an option. When news spread that You-Know-Who died, every wizard and witch decided that it was the perfect time to celebrate. McGonagall knew that she wouldn't get any peace and quiet at her home.
Besides, after leaving baby Harry Potter with his cruel muggle relatives, a firewhiskey or two wouldn't hurt. So McGonagall heads towards one of the few pubs she can stand.
The Leaky Cauldron.
It was crowded. Of course it would be. The Wizarding World was celebrating the downfall of the Dark Lord. A wizard who has terrorized every witch and wizard for the past decade.
McGonagall sighs as she reaches the bar. She sits down as Tom walks over. He smiles kindly at her as she returns the greeting.
"It's a busy night," McGonagall says as Tom stops in front of her.
"Aye. Everyone here wants to celebrate the news. What about you? Come to celebrate?" Tom asks as he places the glass he was drying off down.
"Yes. No. I'm not sure. I've had a busy day and I thought that some firewhiskey could help," McGonagall tells him.
"One firewhiskey coming up," Tom says as he leaves McGonagall alone to grab the drink.
"Minerva?" a voice says off to her left.
She can hear the surprise in the tone as she turns to see who called her. McGonagall's eyebrows raise slightly as she spots Professor Filius Flitwick, the Charms Teacher, sitting a couple of bar stools away from her.
"Ah Filius. Surprised to see me here?"
"A bit. I've never seen you here before," Filius explains as Tom returns with a firewhiskey.
"Here you go, Minerva. If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask."
"Thank you, Tom," Minerva says.
Tom nods his head as another patron calls for him. He hurries off to see what they need, leaving McGonagall to talk with her fellow staff.
"Care to join me?"
Filius looks at McGonagall, eyes slightly widens at her invite.
"Ah well, if you don't mind the company. I wouldn't mind," Filius says.
"Of course not. Come, there is much that we can talk about."
Filius nods his head in agreement as he grabs his drink. He climbs down from his bar stool and heads over to McGonagall. He then climbs onto the free bar stool to her right. He places his own firewhiskey on the counter as he situates himself in his new seat.
A comfortable silence falls between them as the rest of the patrons laugh and have the time of their lives. McGonagall takes a sip of her firewhiskey, the burning sensations helps her keep her mind off of Harry Potter.
"What do you think will happen now?" Filius asks.
"We rebuild. Hopefully the Ministry will be able to capture any Death Eaters that haven't been caught yet. Maybe they will make changes to make sure that this doesn't happen again," McGonagall says as she looks ahead. "I also believe that the number of students attending Hogwarts will increase, seeing as there is no current threat to their safety."
"Ah yes. It would be nice to see the halls and classroom full of curious children again," Filius agrees.
When the war broke out, the amount of children decreased for either families feared sending them off to school or they where muggleborn and it was unsafe for them to attend.
"I do wonder what we will do with the muggleborns that we were unable to send letters to. It is still early on in the year, so there is a chance that we can bring more students in. It wouldn't take them too long to get all caught up with work. Plus their fellow students could help," McGonagall points out.
"That is true, though I have a feeling that Headmaster Dumbledore already has something figured out. What has happened to Harry Potter? I do hope that he is somewhere safe," Filius says as he traces circles around his firewhiskey bottle.
"Professor Dumbledore has decided that Harry should stay out of the wizarding world for some time. He believes that all the fame wouldn't be good for him," McGonagall says, knowing that she cannot reveal Harry's location, no matter how much she would like to.
"Makes sense. It'll give him a chance to be a regular kid. Everyone needs that," Filius says as Tom stops in front of them.
"Would either of you want another glass of firewhiskey? Or would you like anything else?"
"I'm all good. Thanks for the offer," McGonagall explains as she takes another sip of her -mostly full- firewhiskey.
"Another firewhiskey would be great," Filius says as Tom smiles.
"Coming right up. I'll be back with your drink in a second Filius," Tom says as he continues on down the bar.
McGonagall taps her nail against the firewhiskey glass. It makes a slight ringing sound that is drowned out from the noise of the pub. She can hear drunk wizards singing joyful tunes at one of the tables. Tom then returns with the firewhiskey for Filius.
"Here you go Filius. I do hope you enjoy it," Tom says before leaving the two professors be, again.
Filius takes a sip of the new firewhiskey, seeing as his other one is empty.
"I wonder what the future will be like," Filius says, breaking the silence between them.
"Who knows. Neither of us can see into the future."
"True," Filius says. "What house do you believe Harry will be in?"
"Gryffindor."
"You're only saying that because you're the Head of Gryffinor," Filius says.
"No. I believe that he will take after his parents. They both were in Gryffindor," McGonagall points out as she takes another sip of her drink.
"Just because they were in Gryffindor doesn't mean their son will. He could be in Slytherin for all we know," Filius says.
McGonagall raises an eyebrow as she looks at Filius.
"What? We'll just have to wait and see."
"Yes. Yes we will."
