They were lost. They were hopelessly lost. In the woods. With no way to call for help. And it was all Sarah's fault.
"So what you're saying is you have no clue where we are, how we got here, or how to get home?" Hermione says as she looks at Sarah.
"Look, it's not my fault!"
"Not your fault? You're the one with the map!"
Ana groans in annoyance as Sarah and Hermione continue to argue. She looks over at Ginny, who is standing there patiently.
It was supposed to be an easy hike. Apparently, Sarah went on this hike with her family a month or two ago and she thought that it would be the perfect hike for the four of them to go on.
It didn't take long for them to take a wrong turn and end up lost. Hence why Hermoine and Sarah are arguing on who's fault it is.
"Remind me to never let Sarah lead another hike," Ana whispers to Ginny.
"Will do," Ginny says. "So, are we going to stop them from arguing or are we just going to stand here?"
"I'd rather not interrupt them. You do remember how they yelled at Ron and Harry the last time they tried to stop them?"
"Yeah."
It takes Hermione and Sarah five more minutes to finally stop playing the blame game.
"Alright, now that that is done and over with, how about we find our way out of here?" Ana suggests as Sarah and Hermione look over at her. "And Sarah, give me the map. I'll lead us for the time being."
"What? No! I can lead us," Sarah says as she looks at her girlfriend.
"Sarah, I love you but we both know that I have the better sense of direction that you," Ana reminds her as she smiles softly.
Huffing, Sarah hands the map over to Ana. Ana kisses Sarah's cheek as she grabs the map. Ana opens the map and frowns.
"Sarah, is this what the map looked like when you held it?"
Sarah looks over Ana's shoulder.
"Yes, why?"
"You were holding the map upside down."
Sarah groans as Ana flips the map around. Ginny tries, and fails, to cover her laugh.
"Of course! You held the map upside down. Anyways, Ana, do you know how to get us out of here?" Hermione asks.
Ana looks at the map, then around the area.
"Give me a second. I think I know where we are. I just need to confirm it," Ana says.
"Anything we could help with?" Ginny asks.
"Yeah. You can look for a trail blaze. If I'm correct, it should be a bright orange," Ana says.
"Alright. Where should it be?"
"On a tree. Not sure which one. Although they make it sure that you can see the next trail blaze from the one you are at," Ana says.
"Wow, it sounds like you know a lot about hiking."
"I used to go hiking with my dad when I was younger. I haven't gone for a couple of years. Life has been busy," Ana tells them.
"Ok. I think I found it," Ginny says as she stands near a fallen tree.
Ana walks over to take a look.
"Yup. That's a trail blaze."
"So, which way do we go?" Hermione asks.
"Either way would do. This trail is a loop. So it starts and ends at the same spot," Ana explains.
"How far is the start spot from where we parked?" Sarah asks.
"It connects to the green trail, which starts where our original trail starts. So, which way do you want to go?" Ana asks.
"Let's just continue the way we are going. It doesn't make sense to go the way we just went. Who knows what we would miss," Ginny says.
"Alright. I'll take the lead," Ana says as she starts walking.
"I got the back," Ginny says.
"Alright thanks," Ana says.
They then start their walk towards the right. They walk in silence.
"So, any plans for when we get out of here?" Ana asks, breaking the silence.
"I was going to go shopping. I need to get some food for dinner this weekend. Sirius is coming over for a visit," Ginny says.
"Cool. Is anyone else going to join you guys?" Sarah asks.
"No, not that I know of. Harry said something about Sirius having some news to tell us."
"Well, keep us updated on what the news is. I'm curious to know what he wants to see you guys," Ana says.
"What are you and Sarah going to do this weekend?"
"Well, there is this cafe that I was hoping to check out tomorrow," Ana says.
"Really? What cafe?"
"It's a cat cafe. It just opened up about a month ago. I haven't been able to go out and check it out yet. I've always been curious as to what a cat cafe looks like," Ana says.
"Ah ok."
"Yup! Anyways, looks like we made it to the green trail."
"Nice! So how much longer until we reach the start?" Hermione asks Ana.
"Ten to fifteen minutes."
"Ok cool."
They continue to talk about their plans for the weekend as they reach the start. They walk side by side as they head towards the parking lot. Once they reach it, Ana and Sarah bid Ginny and Hermione farewell.
"Well, that was interesting," Sarah says as they reach their red jeep.
"Yup! I think we've learned a lesson."
"What's that?"
"Never let you lead a hike ever again."
"Hey! It wasn't that bad."
"You held the map upside down for most of the hike."
"It's not my fault!"
"It kinda is. Anyways, I'm driving us home."
"Why can't I?"
"You drove us here. So I get to drive us home," Ana says as she grabs the car keys.
"Oh, alright fine."
Ana smiles as she unlocks the car. She then climbs into the driver, while Sarah climbs into the passenger seat. Once they are both settled, Ana starts the drive home.
