James and Sirius were planning something, Remus just knew it. They have been avoiding him on purpose. In the five years of knowing them, he knows that it means they were planning something. Something big. The detention-kind of big.

"Peter, do you know what Sirius and James are planning?" Remus asks him one night.

It was just the two of them. Sirius and James had snuck out of the dinning hall earlier — for them anyways. Dinner wasn't even half-way through when they abruptly stood and told Remus that they had work to do. He wasn't even able to get a word out before they left.

"N-no. Sirius and James haven't told me of any plans. A-at least nothing of importance. I-I heard them whispering about some minor pranks to pull on some Slytherins, b-but nothing major," Peter tells Remus as he shifts nervously in his seat.

"Alright. Thanks anyways," Remus says as he smiles kindly at his nervous friend.

"N-no problem."

Peter then turns back to his Transfiguration homework. They were requested to write a four-inch essay about a Transfiguration spell they covered over the year and how it works.

Remus sighs as he turns back to his own homework. He'll just have to figure out their plan on his own.

One week. One bloody week since James and Sirius had started planning whatever they are planning. Somehow, they have been able to keep it a secret from Remus. They stay out of his hearing range —which is quite big because of his...affliction. Peter had said nothing. Oh, yes, Remus knows that Peter is in on the plan. He's not actively participating, but he knows what they are planning.

Oh, how he's going stir-crazy with all of the secrecy. May is closing in upon them and Remus just hopes that they don't cause any trouble when finals come. It also doesn't help that they have OWLs this year. Maybe they are busy studying? If so, then why haven't they invited Peter and himself? Well, he understands why not invite Peter — he's never been good at studying — but why not invite him?

"They're planning something. I just don't know what," Remus tells Lily Evans over dinner one day. "But I don't know what it is. They have been avoiding me, or if we're hanging out, they won't say a thing about what they are up to."

"Maybe it's because they don't want you to talk them out of it," Lily suggests. "I mean, how many times have you convinced them not to go through with a prank?"

Maeve, Lily's friend, then pulls her away from Remus. Remus is left to his thoughts.

"Prongs, you better tell me why you bloody blindfolded me before I hex you," Remus warns him as James leads him to who-knows-where.

"Relax, Moony! You'll love it! I just know you will," James tells him cheerfully.

Remus suddenly stumbles forward, tripping on something.

"Whoa there! We don't want you falling and breaking your nose," Remus hears Sirius say as he grabs him.

"Padfoot. So glad you could join us. Everything ready? Is Wormtail there?" James asks.

"Yup! I'd thought that you said you'd be here ten minutes ago. What took you so long?" Sirius asks as Remus is stabilized on his feet.

"Had to find Moony first. He wasn't in the dorms or the library. Found him in the Owlery."

"Ah, ok. Now then, off we go!"

Remus feels James and Sirius loop one of their arms under his as they drag him somewhere.

"Can you stop dragging me?! I can walk on my own."

"Nope! Can't let you ruin the surprise before we get there," Sirius says.

"Surprise? What surprise?" Remus asks as he feels them start to climb stairs.

"This one!"

James yanks the blindfold off of Remus's face.

"SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOONY!" James, Sirius and Peter shout.

Remus stands there in shock. They have somehow managed to decorate a room in the Shrieking Shack with balloons and streamers. There was also a handmade sign that said 'happy birthday' in ever-changing colorful paint. Sitting on the table was a small cake with half a dozen presents.

"You guys… You didn't need to do this," Remus says as he looks at his friends.

"We wanted to. We each got you a gift. We also managed to get hold of these party supplies. As for the cake, James was able to sneak into the kitchens to make it for us," Sirius explains.

"Now then, let's celebrate!"

The rest of the night was filled with their laughter. Remus smiles as he looks at his friends, who are sitting around him. This will go down -in history- as one of his favorite and best birthdays ever.
