Soulmate AU
Pansy rotates the ring on her finger as she glances out of the window, ignoring Daphne as she continues to talk. The green fields pass by as the Hogwarts Express continues on its journey. Sighing, she glances down at her soul ring, the one thing connecting her to her soulmate.
The ring wasn't extravagant like Draco Malfoy's or simple like Daphne Greengrass's. Her ring was somewhere in the middle. It was made from some kind of silver metal—she forgets the name—and in the center sat two gems, a sapphire and a peridot. On either side of the gems, three diamonds are embedded in the infinity symbol.
'I wonder who my soulmate is,' Pansy muses. 'Hopefully they aren't some lowly Muggleborn. My parents won't forgive me if they are.'
The door of the compartment that Pansy is sitting in opens up. Draco, Crabbe and Goyle walk in and sit down.
"Oh good, someone to talk to," Daphne says as she turns towards their companions. "Pansy has been looking at her ring or out the window the whole time!"
"Oh? Curious to know who you're going to be stuck with for the rest of your life?" Malfoy says, a smirk making its way onto his face.
"As if you aren't," Pansy snaps, glaring at him. "You better hope that she's not a Muggleborn. Don't want your parents to disown you."
"Of course she's not! My ring is more expensive than yours. So she has to be a Pureblood. Everyone knows that the type of ring shows off how wealthy they are."
"You do know that's not true. There was a case of two Muggleborns' rings being rather extravagant and they didn't come from wealthy families," Daphne reminds Draco, who just rolls his eyes.
"Yeah right! Tell them, Crabbe, Goyle."
Crabbe and Goyle mutter in agreement as they glance at each other.
"Besides, we shouldn't worry about who our soulmate is. We're only in our first year! We can't even date them if we wanted to," Daphne points out. "Let's worry about classes and who we are going to marry later."
"You're right. But that doesn't mean we can think about who they might be."
"Yeah. To be honest, I want Harry Potter to be mine. I mean, just imagine being married to The Boy Who Lived! Everyone will adore you and you'll be famous!" Daphne says, a smile on her face as she fantasizes a life with Harry as her soulmate.
"Yeah right. I don't really want to be his soulmate. Too much attention," Pansy says. "Besides, who knows what he's been up too over the years."
"Hey, look, we're here," Draco says as the train slowly stops.
Pansy stands up and starts to make her way to the exit with the others. Once they get off, they follow the voice shouting "first years" towards the docks. It doesn't take them long to reach the docks and to get into the boats. Pansy sits next to Daphne as the boat magically takes them over the water and to the castle. Pansy absently fiddles with her ring, as she steps out of the boat.
"I wonder what house everyone will get sorted into," Daphne whispers as Professor McGonagall leads them towards the great hall.
"Who knows," Pansy says as they abruptly stop, making her bump into the boy in front of her. "Oof!"
The boy turns around to face her. His blonde hair was messy, he probably didn't brush it in the morning. Pansy brings her left hand up to brush the stray strands of hair out of her face. The boy's eyes widen slightly, the corner of his mouth twitch.
"Well," he starts as Pansy looks at him. "Looks like you're falling for me already."
"Excuse me?" Pansy says, glaring at him.
The boy lifts his left hand and points at the ring on his finger.
The same ring that is currently on her hand.
"Pleasure to meet you. The name's Zacharias Smith. Though you can call me Zach."
"Pansy Parkinson."
"Cool. It'll be better if we talk and figure out how we want things to go later. Maybe we can talk tomorrow or something. Better to figure things out now than later," Zach says.
"Alright. Sounds like a plan," Pansy agrees.
"Good. Now then, looks like it's time to get sorted. Let's hope we don't end up in rival houses."
"Yes. Let's hope so," Pansy says as they start to walk into the Great Hall.
'This is going to be interesting,' Pansy thinks as she takes her first steps as a Hogwarts student.
