A/N: Hey guys! Welcome to 2020! Here's the first update of the year!
She has to stop by her house to pick up the congratulatory present that she forgot (in her rush to gather her files) this morning before she meets Hazel at the café. And she's working out tomorrow and she has a hair appointment this weekend so she can look her best for the stockholders meeting next week.
Her next few days are kind of packed but mostly she's glad to be off work and has Piper on call from the Bluetooth in her car as she drives home.
"Yeah but I thi-"
One second.
It takes one second for an entire life to change.
One second of the crunch of metal against metal.
-.-
He's way too low on groceries and he tells himself he needs to stop waiting till the last minute to start shopping. He's got a dinner party on Friday and he's planned out a three-course meal. And then of course he's seeing his mom next week so he should get some stuff to bake her something in return for her famous cookies.
He's by the peppers wondering what makes an orange one cost 46 cents more than a green one, weighing the two in his hands, when-
One second.
It takes one second for an entire life to change.
One second of the loud bangs of bullets in the air.
-.-
One second of the erratic beating of a heart.
One second of the ringing of the phone.
One second of words said, in a hospital, in a house, by friends, by significant others.
One second to change a life.
-.-
She's standing in anticipation mixed with nervousness. She's given her all, done everything in her power, to make it here. It's been years in the making to fulfill this dream. And it's up to this moment, when she finds out if it has paid off.
She tugs on a curl and puts down her glass on the table when-

It takes one second for an entire life to change.
One second of the clash of metal against metal as she cuts the ribbon.
-.-
He's kinda cold but it's worth it for the view from the rooftop bar. His friends are all around, keeping the place packed and therefore warm. He huddles a little closer to the group and stares at the sky in anticipation.
He rubs his hands and listens to the countdown begin, he stops joining in after 3 and watches quietly as 2, 1-

One second.
It takes one second for an entire life to change.
One second of the loud bang of fireworks in the air as he stands alive for a year he didn't know he'd live to see.
-.-
One second of fast beating hearts when grey eyes meet green.
One second of the ringing phone.
One second of the words said, in a hospital, in a house, by friends, by significant others.
One second to change a life.
A/N: So what did you think? The theme is very obvious and what I hope what you all take away from this is that life is capable of changing drastically at any given moment. Sometimes in a bad way, sometimes in a good way, you never know. And that's part of the beauty of life.
So to that I say, cherish every moment you have now, because you never know when it will change, and if you're not in a good place then know that at any time you have the power to change things and your life can turn around like that. One second.
And with that, I want to address this fic and where it's going. Last year I updated every week and that was a good experience to know I could do it, but this year, it might be every other week, I'm not sure. I want to focus on quality more than quantity, so I want to only publish things that I really like and/or think are important.
Even though this fic might be slowing down, if you want more of my content, please check out my series on this website: How We Could Have Met 2. Or my Ao3 where I publish other oneshots: foreverfangirlwrites. Or you can check out my tumblr where I'm taking requests right now: forevfangirlwrites.
And now with the self promo out of the way, happy new year you guys! Please Review! I'd love to hear your thoughts!
And as always, thanks for reading!
See ya! :)
