A/N: Hey guys! Back with an update! Hope you like it!

Standing at the precipice of uncertainty, he grips her hand tighter than ever. They're here, wherever here is, and they're facing this, whatever this is. They need to go somewhere far away, and the road is obscured by the unknown.

She grips back, just as tight, tired grey eyes meeting his. They're rumpled and exhausted, standing on the precipice of things they don't know. He tugs her closer and she rests her messy hair on his chest for a brief moment, wrapping her arms around his waist. He holds her close, savoring this moment.

It's all they have.

She pulls away and their eyes meet again. A hint of fear overpowered by a tired determination. He thinks she looks beautiful like this, like she could go on forever.

But he can't promise her forever. He can't promise her eternity. He can't promise her what only the universe knows.

But he grips her hand and looks at her with all the love he has to give and promises her this.

Right now.

And with their hands intertwined, shoulder to shoulder, they step forward. One step closer to the abyss of uncertainty.

He makes another promise.

Right now.

And another step. And another. And together they move down a path they can't see to face what they don't know to get to somewhere far away.

And he promises her every moment along the way.

-.-

When she sees those green eyes, it feels like a promise. They've only just met but she can't look away as she hands him the book.

His hands remind her of something she might have known long ago and his smile a memory from a dream.

She might be staring but so is he, like he's trying to place where he's seen her face. Taking in his blue shirt and raven hair she thinks of a slice of blue cloth and grimy locks on a street set on fire by a war.

"Hi I'm-"

"Annabeth." The words roll off his tongue like he's whispered it in her ear and shouted it in a field and repeated it like a chant a hundred times over.

Her nametag is visible, but he looks at her like he knew it already, in the back of his mind somehow. She wonders why he's so familiar, why she can see him as a battered war hero, like a story she might have read in a book.

"I've got the strangest feeling," she starts, trailing off when he meets her eyes again. She wants to say she's seen them before; they hold a promise that she can't figure out.

He smiles like he might have once upon a time as he sat on a picnic table with a slab of blue frosting.

When he has to leave she feels a panic rise up, as if she's lost him before, but he touches her hand gently and makes a promise.

The promise of tomorrow.

-.-

The little girl with curly blonde hair is on the only tire swing of the tiny park and he marches over to see if maybe she'll let him play.

Her eyes flash a glinting grey that reminds him of something he just can't place.

"Hi, I'm Percy," he introduces with confidence. Her head tilts at the words as if she can't remember something.

"Percy," she repeats as if she's said it a million times. As if she's screamed it from the rooftops and giggled through the letters.

She moves aside so they can share the swing, knees bumping against each other and he wonders why she's so familiar.

He wants to ask if he knows her, from another place, but he doesn't. He just throws his head back and laughs along with her as they swing in circles.

When it's time to go home he wants to cry. He doesn't know why he doesn't want to leave his new friend, but she places her hands on her hips and sternly makes him a promise only a child can make.

The promise of a lifetime.

-.-

When she sees him on the streets, she knows he's different. Drawn to him like maybe she once was, on a battlefield, in a library, on a playground. Drawn to him like she may have known him in another time, another way.

He turns around like he knows she's coming and grey eyes meet green once again. As always, they hold a promise.

"Annabeth." The name slips out like he's known it all along.

"Percy." Her mouth forms it out of a habit she never lost.

His hand reaches out and she grips it tight, drawing closer to him and letting her head rest on his chest. There's no precipice this time. They're here.

The here that was once where they were going.

He smiles like he might have in a library a long time ago and she laughs like she might have on a tire swing one day and they intertwine their fingers that never really let go.

Shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand, they walk down the peaceful street with a promise.

A promise that only the universe knows.

The promise of forever.

A/N: So what did you think? It's meant to emulate the three lives to get to Elysium in a vague way, but mostly about promising what we can, a moment, a day, maybe even a lifetime, and maybe the universe will give us a forever…

Please Review! I'd love to hear your thoughts!

And as always, thanks for reading!

See ya! :)
