Pulling up to the Swan Estate behind Charlie's Cruiser, I noticed there were vehicles parked around the driveway. I wondered who would be here and turned the car off. The girls and I quickly got out and made our way to the front door.
I opened the door, walked in slowly and looked around. Before I could register what was going on, I got a chorus of "Welcome Home!" from all my childhood friends and their families. I looked around the room in shock and surprise, before I was bombarded with bone crushing hugs from Tyler, Matt, Jeremy, and everyone else.
"I. Can't. Breathe." I finally said, causing everyone to laugh. I smiled at everyone and eventually the gathering dispersed into smaller groups of conversations. I walked around, making sure to catch up with all my friends. I missed them all so much.
Eventually, Charlie had everyone gather out back where there were picnic tables set up. There was hamburgers, hotdogs, and corn on the cob fresh off the grill. Baked beans, potato salad, broccoli and cheese casserole, and my favorite for dessert blueberries and cream pie. I was in food heaven.
"So Bells, what kind of car did your dad get you? He has been all secretive about it and wouldn't let anybody see it except for the girls." asked Tyler as he pouted. I can't say I'm surprised dad kept it a secret. I'm mentally thankful that Ty didn't know, because if he were to have gotten a scratch or anything on him, he would have been missing an important body part or two, and I think Charlie knew that.
"Well, Ty. When this little party is over, I'll gladly show you, as long as Matty comes along." I responded as lightly as possibly, trying not to give away my fear. "Why does Matt have to come along? Do you not trust your best guy friend with your own car? I wouldn't destroy it..on purpose." he quietly muttered the last part, but I still heard it. My fear for Baby 2 briefly showed ony face, before masking it with an all too innocent smile. "Of course I trust you Tyler. It's just that Baby 2 is really, really special to me."
I watched all the emotions on his face change a mile a minute. Understanding. Wonder. Surprise. Back to understanding. Then a little too quick, he hopped out of his seat and raced to the front of the house, Matty and I hot on his tail. I caught up to him just around the corner of the front and his eyes were bigger than Texas.
"Holy shit! Are you serious right now? Is that really the original '67 Chevy Impala? Wow." and then Ty and even Matt stood there speechless. So I took the opportunity to head towards the car, keep my hawk eyes on Ty the entire time, while I showed them everything they needed to see to know it was legit.
A while later, everyone was heading back to their homes. Tyler, Matt, Elena, Caroline and Bonnie were the last ones to leave. I gave them each hugs and see you laters before heading inside to the bathroom. I really needed a shower and was extremely tired. So I did my business and half hour later, I'm laying in bed falling into a deep sleep.
