Camp Potter: Paintball, Week 4
If You Dare Challenge (Continued)
That Is Enough
The Dark Lord had disappeared only days ago.
Was it wrong that he was glad? Was it wrong that he saw it as a good thing that Draco would not have to grow up while the Dark Lord staged a war on the Wizarding World? That he the news of the Dark Lord's defeat had brought him a surge of relief?
He didn't think so. He may support the Dark Lord, but he was glad his son would not have to be raised under the man's rule.
Draco had only been born a year prior. He would never remember anything of the Dark Lord's rule in his childhood, and that was a good thing. He wouldn't want Draco growing up with everything that had happened within this Manor in his memories. He wanted Draco to have his innocence, to have his childhood, to enjoy all the innocent things that children did.
The Dark Lord was always harsh and unforgiving with his punishments, and ironclad in his ways. The Dark Lord allowed no mistakes, something he knew his son would never be able to accomplish at his young age.
Draco needed some freedom in his youth, just like his father had given him before the Dark Lord had amassed as much power as he had only days ago.
Narcissa was glad. He knew that. She openly showed her pleasure within the Manor. She had never liked the Dark Lord's methods, and had feared for their son when she had been pregnant. She had worried over the life he would have under the Dark Lord, despite believing in some of the Dark Lord's beliefs.
When she had heard the news, she had wandered around the Manor as if a cheering charm had been placed on her. She had even been humming. He had only been able to stare at her in shock when he had heard that. Narcissa never hummed, or expressed any emotion to such an extent before. It had been strange.
He was conflicted though. How could he be loyal to the Dark Lord, yet still be pleased about his downfall?
Did that make him a traitor to the Dark Lord?
Surely not, but his family always had come first. That had been true even for his father.
That certainly didn't make him disloyal. That made him loyal to what was most important.
His family. His son.
He knew he would not be searching for the Dark Lord as many would be expecting him to. He would not help the Dark Lord rise any earlier than he is supposed to, because he wanted Draco to have his innocence for as long as he possibly could.
He didn't want to think what the Dark Lord would do to him, or his family, if he ever found out.
That was enough thinking about it. It didn't matter. Not now. He would deal with it when the time came, if it ever did.
He could enjoy this time with Narcissa and Draco, instead of worrying about possible future consequences.
