CHAPTER TWELVE
The end?
The two stumbled up to their apartment.
Tails held Sarah's hand.
He wouldn't let her die.
"LOOK OUT!" Screamed Sarah
A tree started to sway dangerously towards them.
Their apartment was too dangerous.
The garage.
He started to lead her to the back of the building.
The wind kept threatening to knock them over.
Tails opened their garage door.
Just behind them a power line snapped and started to wave around.
"Get inside!"
Inside of the garage was the rental car and little inventions Tails had worked on that he didn't keep in a lab.
Suddenly a hook fell off of a shelf on the wall and sliced into Tails' left eye.
He held his hands over it while blood seeped between his fingers.
The power line swung into the garage, nearly hitting Tails.
Sarah dove into the rental car.
The power line hit another shelf where a gas tank fell off and broke open.
The power line lit the gas on fire, which now surrounded the car.
The power line started to swing around the car.
"The car's going to explode!" Cried Tails.
Then he got an idea.
"Listen, I'm going to grab the power line so you can get out. It'll skip you and kill me. Then you go to the hospital and stay with Shadow. It'll be over soon."
Sarah didn't reply.
She sniffled before nodding.
Tails grabbed the power line and yanked it off the car.
Sarah grabbed her phone and ran out of the car.
Then, everything stopped.
The power line stopped swinging, the fire went out, the wind stopped.
The two stood still for a moment.
"Do you hear that?" Asked Tails finally.
"I-it's my phone." Said Sarah shakily.
She answered it.
After a few moment of her listening she hung up.
Tails walked up to her.
"I-it's a boy."
Sarah stood up before hugging Tails.
It was over.
The two walked into the hospital.
Shadow was waiting for them, smiling.
But his smile vanished as soon as he saw Tails.
"What happened to you eye?!"
"Doesn't matter. Where is she?"
Shadow led them to Macy's room.
Inside Macy was talking to a doctor.
"What happened to your eye?"
Tails ignored the question and hugged his sister.
"Uh... hi."
"You saved us."
"From what?"
"I'll tell you in a minute."
"How is he?" Asked Sarah.
"Healthy. We'll both be out of here by tomorrow. Oh yeah, that reminds me."
Macy reached into a tote bag next to her.
"Here."
She held out two tickets.
"What are they?"
"They're to a race. I wanted to ask you two to come once I could. I have an extra because some one else was supposed to come. Though I might ask Shadow."
"No! Uh... I mean, maybe we shouldn't. Especially right after this."
Macy looked down at the tickets.
" Fair enough. We would even be in the same seats anyway."
"Some one should tend to you." Said Sarah as she led Tails away.
Three Months Later
The four survivors were sitting at a restaurant table.
They had just gotten their drinks.
"So this guy tried to rob a bank with a eye mask on."
The four laughed.
It was the day after the race they skipped.
"You really rock an eye patch Tails." Said Shadow.
Tails gave a slight smile. But then he frowned again.
"What's wrong?" Asked Sarah.
Tails didn't answer but instead held his glass up.
"A toast, to all of the others who didn't survive."
The others followed.
Macy then dropped the tickets on the table.
"I heard it's a good thing we didn't go to the race."
"Why?"
"There was a huge crash there. Almost one hundred died.
But then Tails remembered something.
Didn't he get a bad feeling about it. Isn't that why they didn't go?
Tails picked up the tickets and examined them.
"Apparently an entire car crushed the column we were in, from front to back."
On the tickets it showed that Tails was in front, Shadow was behind him, then Macy, with Sarah in the back.
The feeling was back.
They skipped death again.
HE WAS FIRST.
Tails stood up so fast he knocked all of the drinks on the table over.
"Hey!" The others stood up too, trying to avoid getting drink on them.
"What's wrong?!" Asked Sarah.
Tails began to walk away.
"I need to go back home. If there was another crash that means it's starting again."
"Well then I'm coming too." Said Sarah as she began to walk up.
"No. Stay here and stay safe."
Tails turned to walk away.
"TAILS!"
Macy's scream caused Tails to turn again, narrowly missing a bus that came speeding at him.
The bus crashed into a wall making the huge sign above the restaurant swing for him.
But Shadow shoved him out of the way.
"What are you doing?!" Asked Shadow as he got off of Tails.
"I-I don't know."
"You're next!"
"But it just skipped me."
"Then... who's next?"
Tails looked behind Shadow to see the sign swinging back for the hedgehog.
