Phantom Guildhall, Hallway
Lucy stood a few meters away from her opponents. She admitted that it had been a while since anyone had fully challenged her. She was confident in her ability to defeat them. If she gave up now, then it had been for nothing. She wiped some blood from her lip and stepped closer.
"What? Cat caught your tongues?" Lucy teased.
Gajeel grits his teeth in frustration. "Keep dreaming, Unova," he muttered.
Lucy got in position and readied her magic. She sensed a large amount of magic above her and furrowed her brows. Someone must have screwed over Jose's game plans if he's using his magic. I need to hurry up and lose these three, she thought.
Lucy quickly ducked and put her guard up. She stopped Gajeel's fist and threw a right straight into his gut. She got hit in the chin by his knee and tumbled a little. She dodged to the side and got behind Gajeel and sent him flying into Aria.
Aria phased through and let Gajeel hit the wall. "You mustn't be so reckless, Gajeel. We must be smart with our steps," Aria calmly stated.
Gajeel spat out some blood and growled at Aria. "Save the lectures for later."
Lucy stared at them in confusion. They are an interesting bunch, she mused. Before she could react, a whirlwind of water and air hit her head-on. She got swallowed by the water as the temperatures cooled. Freezing me to death? Nice try, but it's gonna take a lot more than that to take me down.
CELESTIAL DRAGON'S SCATTERING LIGHT!
The water evaporated into vapor, creating fog in the room. Lucy heightened her senses and watched out for any sneak attacks. She smelled Gajeel coming towards her while Juvia came from behind. She furrowed her eyebrows since she was unable to find Aria. Her eyes widened when she sensed him behind her. She quickly ran out of his air space and heard her three opponents hit each other.
Lucy brightened the area with her magic and charged to attack. Two of them eluded her while Gajeel stopped her. Both dragon slayers duked it out. After much resistance, Lucy backed away from him and attacked Juvia. Juvia phased through the attack and sent a dash of scorching water into Lucy.
Lucy got pushed back with her guard up. She hissed from the sudden impact and backed away further. She sensed something from behind her and dodged to the side. While dodging, she got sent flying backward from Juvia and Gajeel. Lucy threw her hands up as Juvia sent water slicers.
Adding to her frustration, Lucy barely sensed Aria. His wind magic is gonna be the end of me if I don't find a way around it, she thought bitterly.
ZETSU!
Lucy's body was battered with invisible attacks. She was sent tumbling through the wall with great force. She got up warily with several injuries in her body. She hissed silently and energized her fist. Having enough, she charged at Aria. She saw him teleporting away. Watching as Gajeel got in front of her, she gave him a right straight and pushed him away.
As she watched all of them regroup, she glared at them while forming a plan. Losing them is gonna be harder than I thought. Two of 'em aren't called S-Class wizards for nothing, she thought. I'm gonna have to separate them before they plan anything funny.
Aria disappeared from Lucy's point of view in a second. She enhanced her senses and tried to avoid him at all costs. She felt him behind her and struck him. Her fist phased through his body, leaving her defenseless.
WATER NEBULA!
Lucy skidded back. Losing balance, she failed to dodge the next attack.
IRON DRAGON'S ROAR!
ZETSU!
Both attacks combined into one, destroying most of the hallway. The three members fell and landed in a room. They tried to look for Lucy but came up empty-handed.
"Do you think that was enough?" Juvia asked timidly. Something in her gut told her otherwise, but she chose to keep optimistic.
"No, she's tougher than most people give her credit for." Gajeel retorted harshly. "She's waiting."
"I believe she is knocked out. The blow should've killed her, but she's not quite normal," Aria reasoned
Gajeel glared at Aria. "I'm not letting my guard down for a single second. She's taken on hundreds of dark guilds on her own. Do you honestly believe she'll go down this easily?"
Juvia got between them. "Please, stop fighting. It's not the right time. We must find her and hand her over to the master," she pleaded.
"What are you afraid of, Gajeel?" Aria asked sternly.
CELESTIAL DRAGON'S ROAR!
Amongst their bickering, a gigantic wave of energy and light hit the group before they could react. After the attack died down, all three of them lied on the floor, far from one another. They watched warily as Lucy walked to them slowly. She was covered in bruises and blood. Most of the damage was done to her arms and chest.
Gajeel got up and turned his arm into a sword and aimed for Lucy's head. She ducked to the side and sent a charged fist into his face. He quickly turned his other arm into a sword to aimed at her side. She stopped the attack with her hand while using the other hand to block another attack, leaving them in an idle position. Gajeel turned his sword into a chainsaw. Seeing this, Lucy backed away. He extended his arm and attacked Lucy from a long range. She started dodging his hits while keeping her distance from his team. Her movements were sluggish from the previous attack, leaving her more vulnerable. She managed to evade Gajeel's attack and threw a right straight into his stomach, twisting her hand to give the attack more power. Gajeel's spit dripped from of his mouth as he hit the wall.
Aria appeared behind Lucy and kicked her sides. She dropped to the floor. Aria lifted his leg and kept bashing Lucy's head. Eventually gaining some control, Lucy blocked the attack and held his leg. Using her free arm as support, she moved her body up and kicked Aria's other leg. He lost balance as Lucy let go of his leg. She caught him by the chin and shoved him away. Her body wanted to rest, but she pushed herself up. If she received a blow like that again, she might be done for.
Her eyes focused on the three opponents and seemingly got stuck on Juvia. She wanted to avoid fighting Juvia altogether. She didn't know why, but it didn't matter since it was one less opponent to worry about. Energizing her hands, she ran behind Juvia.
CELESTIAL DRAGON'S FLARE!
Lucy broke the floor and watched Juvia fall through the floor. The pressure and light of the spell blinded and bound everyone in their place. It took a second for her to sense Gray, but she sighed in relief. Knowing that Gray could keep Juvia busy, Lucy focused her attention on Gajeel and Aria.
"What the hell did you do to Juvia!" Gajeel growled.
"Fighting someone else," Lucy replied calmly.
Gajeel gritted his teeth and dashed at Lucy. He raised his fist and squared in on her face. As she stumbled backward, Gajeel threw a right hook to her face again. Her vision blurred as the pounding in her head roared at her. She eventually grabbed his hair and pulled his face down to her knee, instantly hitting him. She pulled him back up and delivered a strong blow to his stomach. She let him drop to the ground. She felt a chill and dodged the other way.
"You certainly live up to your expectations, Unova," Aria confidently called out. "However, you will fall by my hands as your master did."
Lucy's eyes widened in shock as her voice died down in her throat. She swallowed silently and breathed out through her nose. She was mad, but she wasn't livid enough to kill Aria. Lucy opted to use her reasoning than charge in blind.
"You've got a death wish." Lucy's voice darkened.
Aria felt a shiver run down his spine. "For someone who possesses such a pristine title, he was rather easy to take down," he continued to taunt Lucy.
"You love the sound of your own voice, don't you?" Lucy saw him appear in front of her and charged at him. She energized her fists and hit his face, sending him back a few meters. She clenched her fists, which nearly turned white. "I'll crush you," she growled as her hands shook furiously.
From the corner of her eye, she noticed Gajeel and Aria getting up warily. She blinded the entire room with her magic as she ran to attack both of them. Noticing both opponents were blinded, she pushed Aria into Gajeel, knocking the air out of Gajeel. She winded down her magic and sensed Aria behind and evaded him, but she failed to block the next attack.
SCATTER RAIDS!
A platter of air bullets attacked Lucy's body. She skidded back and landed on the floor, harshly. She wiped some blood from her lips and stared for a moment at the blood. She still had enough magic power remaining to do anything big or continuous. She heard footsteps and extended her feet out for Gajeel to trip. Twisting her body to the side, she landed a blow to his face. She grabbed him the collar and threw him to the nearest wall. She pulled her arms back in and sent a large ray of energy towards Gajeel, keeping him pinned.
Lucy ducked away as Aria tried to attack her. While dodging the next set of attacks, she managed to hit him with her magic. She tried again to get him into close combat but was inevitably blown away again by his magic. She hated to admit it, but she was having a tough time beating something she can't see with her naked eye. She growled silently at the realization and backed away a step further from her opponent.
All of a sudden, Gajeel was in front of Lucy and threw a right hook at her. She skidded back and hissed in pain. Her eyes shook frantically when she saw Gajeel pull his head back.
IRON DRAGON'S ROAR!
Lucy threw her arms in defense as the attack hit her. She energized her arms, protecting herself from the majority of the attack. The area was covered in dust. Using the dust as a cover, she lunged forward and threw a right straight at him. He caught it and kicked her sides. Failing to dodge, she hissed in pain and covered her free hand with magic.
CELESTIAL DRAGON'S DESTRUCTION FIST!
She delivered a swift uppercut to Gajeel, who was sent flying backward. Lucy didn't waste any time to relax and tried to attack Gajeel again. He recovered from the attack and gritted his teeth. Seeing Lucy coming, he jumped into the air and sent several metal-wedged logs in her direction. She couldn't dodge and took the brunt of the attack. She felt the sharp metal piercing her skin as she bit her lips to stop herself from crying out in pain. As the attack died down, she felt her legs wanting to give out.
If I don't finish this now, I'm gonna be finished! she thought frantically. I need to take Gajeel out and wait for Aria. She closed her eyes and reopened them again. Lighting up her feet, Lucy jumped into the air swiftly. She quickly used her magic to her advantage and got behind Gajeel and grabbed him. Twisting her body, she used her all strength to lift and throw Gajeel into the ground, forcefully. She lit up her hands and charged at him.
Gajeel growled and ducked away from her. Gritting his teeth, he transformed his skin into iron scales. He roared and dashed at Lucy. Both dragon slayers collided, creating a small hint of light between the two elements. Gajeel threw a right hook for her face, tipping Lucy back. Holding one of Lucy's arms, he tried to deliver a blow to her gut. Lucy used her free hand to catch his hand while kicking his sides with an energized leg.
Lucy got a couple of hits in before Gajeel knocked her head back and jumped back. She huffed uneasily while wiping more blood from her head. She stared at Gajeel's scales with curiosity. His scales are tough but not invincible. I need to find a way to break, she thought. Lucy had a feeling that Aria might sweep her if she lets her guard down for a second. Her head was blown back again when Gajeel gave her a right straight. He tried to land another blow but failed.
She ducked to the side and got in a right hook to his face. She grabbed his arm and kneed him in the stomach. She got in blow after blow as she watched him move into a defensive position. She figured that he ate up all his magic before fighting with her.
She clenched her fists and energized them up as the magic swirled dangerously. She started hitting him left and right. Each blow chipped away at his scales. She balanced her weight on one leg and used the other one to give Gajeel a roundhouse kick.
He stumbled back a few steps. He breathed heavily as his eyes started to close. His body screamed at him to rest. He watched Lucy put her head backward. He struggled to put his arms up in defense. He closed his eyes when he saw a flicker of light.
CELESTIAL DRAGON'S ROAR!
Gajeel's body hit the wall violently and slid down. Lucy made sure she didn't end up killing him. She sighed internally when she heard a heartbeat. She turned to the side. She found Aria glaring down at her with a dangerous aura.
"You've gotten quite lucky that he was low on magical energy," Aria explained emotionlessly.
Lucy glanced around the room for iron or metal objects and sighed in relief when she found none. She glared at Aria menacingly. "That suppose to make me feel better?"
Aria took off his green coat and hat and cracked his muscles. He didn't attempt to answer her back.
I guess he stopped messing around, Lucy thought. She took a deep breath before taking a good look at the man. He wore a green shirt with some maroon leggings, boots. He was tall and obese with tanned skin. He looked normal on the eye level, but his eyes were covered with bandages. But, he could sense everything around him as if he had eyes. That part made a hole in Lucy's gut.
"It would seem I have to finish off this job myself. So much more listening to that iron freak-show," he grumbled. He slowly took off the bandages from his eyes. As the rest of it fell, his pink pupils adjusted to the light. When he saw clearly, He gave Lucy a bright smile. However, the look in his eyes betrayed his smile. "Let's dance."
Lucy took a step back and got in position. Aria was overflowing with a large pool of magic, which agitated her. The bandages suppressed his magic, she pondered. Just more work for me. She dodged to the side when she sensed something in front of her. Fantastic!
Near the Guildhall
Mira rolled backward from Synthia's attack. Mira was covered in bruises and burns from head to toe. She struggled to get up but managed to pull it off. She lazily dodged to the side, avoiding another strike of lightning. She clutched her right arm, which was covered with tinges of burns and purple hues. Her vision was already a little blurred. The shocks of lightning done to her system were starting to take their toll on her body. She knew if she dragged this on any longer, she'd be done for. She noted she was battling Synthia alone. She had a hunch that if anyone were to interfere it would cause more harm than good.
Mira took a deep breath before dodging to the side. Holding her enemy's arm, Mira kicked her opponent's stomach, causing a tip in balance. She bent her arm and pulled it back and pushed Synthia to the ground. Mira bashed Synthia's head forcefully with her leg before bending down.
"Do you really think you can get away with hurting my family?" Mira asked menacingly. All of the innocence and sweetness withered away in flames. What stood in front was a demon long forgotten.
Synthia felt a shiver down her spine as sweat flowed down her body. It had been too long since she was quivering in fear. But something about the way Mira spoke, Synthia couldn't help feel the fear coming back tenfold. She quickly moved her pupils to the corner of her eye and directly glanced at Mira's eyes. She gulped before saying, "None of this would've happened if you would've handed Lucy Heartfilia over."
"You made the mistake of attacking us. Mark my words, Fairy Tail will make you pay," Mira whispered silently into Synthia's ear. Mira felt relieved talking the way she did. She missed it a little too much, but she would never admit it. She was a different person now. At least, she was trying to convince herself.
Synthia's body sparked with electricity. She clenched her hands through a position while lifting her head. Her eyes were darker than her natural color, but at that moment, she only saw red. The way Mira talked and acted, triggered a painful memory for Synthia. Yelling in fury, she knocked Mira away. Synthia lifted her body slowly, shaking slightly; most of it hidden by her magic. Looking directly into Mira's eyes, she mumbled, "I'll murder you, demon." For Synthia, she felt as though she lost a part of the difference between reality and imagination.
Synthia positioned both her hands in front of her and lined them to attack Mira. With enough power, she shot a sharp amount of electricity at Mira's heart, enough to kill. In a flash of a second, the area was covered in dust. She soon heard the agony of cries. It screamed bloody murder; a sheer scratch of the throat was ripping out the human body. Synthia shrank a little in discomfort and backed away. As the clutter of dust began to diminish, her eyes widened in fear; Mira stood with her arms guarded up against her chest. Synthia's body froze in anxiety and fear.
Mira's arms were covered with extensive burns. The flesh of her skin charred, which created a dark hollow tattoo-like scar. Her whole body shook and twitched unevenly as the smoke from the attack descended from her body. Multiple flickers of lightning danced on her body, burning her internally and externally. Mira slowly dropped her arms to her sides as if she was afraid she would break them. Her nervous system was completely out of order, feeling completely numb to the attack on her body. She looked at Synthia with blurry emotionless eyes and grimacing lips. She tried her best to keep her balance while trying to walk.
Synthia kept mumbling incoherent phrases as she watched Mira struggle to walk. Her mind had tricked her into believing that her sister was standing in front of her. It would be every so often she would flashbacks of her sister's death, but nothing of this caliber. In a sudden burst of nervousness swelling up in her body, Synthia blasted another set of lightning at Mira, who didn't stop it. The uneasiness in her system began to largen in her body as she watched Mira still walking after another hit.
Bawling up her fist tightly, Synthia looked at Mira. "Why do you keep walking when you know your body is trying to give up?" she asked timidly. She tried her best to keep herself from trembling, but it was nearly impossible.
Mira stopped for a moment. She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing but air came out. Her throat was ripping her vocal into pieces, making it difficult to respond to anything. She pushed the pain down her body and responded coarsely, "I won't give up until I've saved my family. If I have to give up my body to see them alive one last time, then I would trade it for it." She started to walk again when she saw the lightning bouncing off Synthia's body.
"Since you're all about family, why don't I make you relive one of you're most dreadful memories," Synthia stated as the magic rose to higher levels. "Let me see if you're still willing to talk about it afterward."
DAYLIGHT: LOST ENTITIES!
The entire battlefield turned into a blank white sheet of paper. Mira looked around with wide eyes, trying to keep herself from trembling. She heard a monstrous howl in the distance and turned around to only stumble on the ground. Piece by piece, the white paper was colored with Mira's memories. The surrounding grass was set on fire as people fled from the flames. Houses crumbled down to ash and pieces with gray clouds rising into the foul air.
Amid the chaos, a small child was clutching onto his teddy bear tightly, trying to gain some comfort. He yelled out for his parents, but he doesn't hear a response. He watched the people confusingly before deciding to follow their actions. He didn't understand anything happening around him, but with depth in his heart, he knew if he didn't run he wouldn't see tomorrow. He ran past the burning fire with his teddy bear in hand. While running, he tripped on some fallen broken tree trunks. His hands and clothing were smeared with dirt while he hissed from the tiny scratches he got. He tried to grab his fallen teddy bear before his hand froze. His eyes spotted a creature he wished was a monster from his nightmare.
The creature's dark scaled tail was wagging happily at its little prey. Its claws were drenched in dried crimson blood; the body is fully covered in green scales while the legs were covered in scratches from the area. The creature had dark piercing eyes with a glint of happiness while it licked its sharp teeth. It roared in happiness, which scared the little boy. It walked nearer as its tail was right beside its face.
The little boy had tears coming out of his eyes as small whimpers left his mouth. "Stay back, please!" he cried out in fear. He backed away quickly and got up and made a sprint. Unfortunately for him, he was not faster than the creature. In a split second, it was in front of him, staring at the boy with predatory eyes. The boy backed up only to hit a tree. At that moment, he knew he was going to die. He closed his eyes and yelled, "Mommy! Daddy!" The last moments of his life were filled with terrorizing screams and agony. His remains were shredded clothing and a teddy bear smeared with blood.
Mira, who witnessed all of it, brought her hands to her mouth to bite back a sob and from throwing up. She collapsed to her knees as the rest of the scene unraveled in front of her. Without a doubt in her mind, it was the day her sister died.
"Seems like the She-Devil isn't all tough at all." Synthia chuckled aloud. She came forth from the leafless trees with a grin on her face.
Mira clenched her fists and teeth while looking at the woman with a disgusted look. "How the hell can you say that when an innocent boy was in front of you!" she bellowed.
"You see, not only do I recreate a person's memories in front of them, but I also can show some other images. I can create illusion-like beings as long as they remain somewhat true to real memory. So the murder you just witnessed was all an illusion. It never occurred in your memory," Synthia explained calmly.
"Heartless," Mira muttered in disgust.
Synthia looked shocked. "It was just an illusion. Not like it ever happened."
Mira glared at the woman. "Just because it didn't happen that doesn't make it right!"
Mira was about to add something when she was cut off by a large explosion. The flames rendered the surroundings into petty dust. She saw in the distance a younger version of herself and her siblings fighting off several of the loose creatures. Her mouth trembled from the horrifying memory. If only... she thought
ANIMAL SOUL: HAPRY!
Lisanna's body partially transformed into half a bird; her arms became wings while her legs and mouth took on bird features as well. She jumped into the air and grabbed one of the creatures with her talons and threw them into the raging fire, watching them writhe in agony. She repeated this process several times, proving her theory right about them. She decided to lesson the horde for her siblings while trying to save the villagers' lives. She saw Elfman in the distance fighting the stronger creatures while Mira assisted him. Finishing off the rest of the smaller ones, she flew over to help her siblings.
Elfman transformed his arms into stone and hit with enough pressure at the creature's heart, which caused it to yelp and collapse to the ground. He sensed something coming for him and ducked to the side quickly. Unfortunately for him, the creature used its tail to cut Elfman's chest. He cried out and hastily jumped above it and connected his hands. Bringing it down, he crushed the creature's head brutally. He got off the creature and clutched his wound; it was beginning to bleed badly. He took off his shirt and used it to stop the bleeding as much as possible. He sensed something coming from behind and got prepared to defend himself. When he felt nothing, he looked to see Lisanna tossing the beast into the fire.
Lisanna beamed brightly at Elfman. "I'll help you take care of the rest of them while we leave the stronger ones to Mira," she said.
Elfman nodded. "Take out the ones to my right; I'll handle the ones to the left."
Both of them quickly went ahead and started taking out the rest of the beasts together, leaving only a few left.
A little further away from the duo, the younger Mira was killing off the strong creatures. She ducked and jumped into the air and landed a kick into the creature's head. Her body was covered in bruises and her magic was draining. Before the creatures had been let loose, she was fighting off a few mages, who started this entire mess. She barely dodged a tail to her face and climbed on the creature. She grabbed its tail and stabbed it in the back. She got off and sighed in relief.
She wiped the sweat off her forehead and hissed from the pain. Suddenly, her eyebrows began to twitch when a thought came to her mind. 'Great, I can imagine that red-headed bitch laughing at me. As long as I play it smooth, I can get out of telling her the whole truth.' However, her thoughts were interrupted by a shriek cry. Snapping her head to the right, her eyes widened and she ran quickly towards Elfman and Lisanna. She saw them struggling with a creature larger than the ones they killed.
SATAN SOUL!
Younger Mira's body transformed into a partial demon. She took on a demonic appearance with wings, tails, and claws, and a scaled body while still retaining some human features. She rushed over and grabbed the creature's hand before it hit Elfman. She let her siblings get away from her and she released its arm. She extended her arm out as the dark magic pooled out. Using her other hand, she created a small ball of intense magic and threw it at the creature. She heard it crying out before becoming silent. All of a sudden, her body reverted to being human and she dropped painfully to the ground.
She groaned silently. "I used too much magic," she muttered lying back flat on the grass.
"Sis' you did great!" Lisanna cheered as she and Elfman stood beside her.
Younger Mira smiled devilishly. "How else am I supposed to beat that red-headed witch."
Lisanna sweatdropped while making an awkward smile. "Not exactly what I had in mind when I said that."
"Does it matter? We just finished an S-Class mission. I wanna go home and relax," Elfman complained while yawning.
"You both are still a bunch of wimps!" Mira declared while pushing herself off the ground.
Lisanna's cheeks poofed out. "I'm with Elfman. Besides, I promised Natsu I'd come back soon."
Younger Mira stared at her sister. "I still don't get what you see in that moron's head."
Lisanna giggled. "That doesn't matter. I heard Erza is coming back from a mission."
"So, she's finally back, huh? I wonder where she goes off to."
"Beats me, let's go!" Elfman said and started to walk ahead of them.
Lisanna came to her sister's aid as they both walked with their brother. Unknowingly, they didn't notice a man charging at them with a sharp blade. Lisanna was smiling at Mira's blubber about defeating Erza. She was about to say something when she felt something piercing her body. Her eyes widened as she spat out blood. She looked down shakily at the blade being retracted from her abdomen. She felt as the blood seeped heavily from the wound.
Younger Mira snapped and grabbed ahold of the man. She repeatedly beat him to the point he was barely breathing. Her hands were tainted with crimson red liquids. Her eyes were wild and crazy, but she heard her heart cracking into pieces. She turned around to see Elfman clutching onto Lisanna tightly. She dropped beside him and held Lisanna.
"It's going to be okay, guys. Everything's gonna work out," Lisanna mumbled, coughing up blood.
Elfman stumbled to cut a part of his shirt and wrapped it around Lisanna's wound. However, crimson liquid poured out in the dozens.
"Just hold on! I'll use my magic and..." Elfman pressed on Lisanna's wound tightly. He knew he was lying to himself. Neither Mira nor he had any magic to transform.
Elfman held onto her tighter and cried aloud while younger Mira's eyes looked away. Soon, Lisanna's body started to glow brightly. Her body starts to levitate. Both siblings tried to hold onto her but failed since her body was vaporizing.
Lisanna smiled tiredly at them one last time. "I'll see you guys soon. Live your lives please for me and everyone. I love you..." she said softly before disappearing.
From the distance, Mira and Synthia watched the scene unfold. Both of them experienced the exact feeling at that moment - heartache.
Mira's body trembled as tears pour out of her eyes after so long. She had thought she cried out all the tears over her sister's death, but it still felt painful as that horrible day. She used her arm to wipe away her tears and let out an uneasy breath. "What do you want?" she asked quietly.
Synthia raised an eyebrow and stared at Mira's crumbling figure. "I already told you - I want to see you suffer."
Mira clenched her fist. "So what now? Are you going to finish me off?"
"According to old news articles, you gave up using your magic because of this day. Why?"
"I think you already know."
"I don't."
Mira lost her patience and simply charged for her enemy. She ended up hitting the air the place where her enemy was seconds ago. She let out a frustrated breath and stomped the ground. "Just leave me alone!" she bellowed.
Synthia looked at her. "No."
"What does this have to do with you?"
"You and I are the same."
After a few seconds of silence, Mira's eyes widened as she glanced at Synthia with curious eyes. "What?"
Synthia let out a soft sigh and glanced at the sky. "After my parents died, my sister hated using magic. She always came up with excuses not to use it, even after joining Phantom. Then on the day she died, she used it one last time to save my life," she explained quietly.
"Why are you telling me this? I thought you wanted to kill me," Mira questioned.
Synthia stared at Mira with a delicate expression. "I was angry at your guild for attacking us that I let my brain slip focus. After seeing how your sister died, I finally calmed down. If I want to fight you again, then I want you to give me your all."
"I'm not using my magic," she declared with hesitation. The whole reason she gave up using magic was to stop the ache in her heart. It was a means to an end of an old chapter, but now, it felt different. She wanted to give up being a mage and settle a life of peace, but she never found comfort in it; the adrenaline she felt doing missions always gave goosebumps. She never admitted to anyone, and she was never going to. She was glad to calm down from her destructive behavior to turn into a peaceful person, but she wanted to blow someone's head off.
Synthia snorted. "Keep lying to yourself. But you and I both know, you love the feeling of magic pulsing through your body; the hungry need to destroy something or someone. Your reputation still proceeds you, She-devil." She headed down toward Mira and stood in front. "I'm sure your sister wouldn't have wanted you to suppress yourself to a point of cracking. I know seeing your guildmates in that position hurts you, so what are you going to do?"
Mira gave a haunted smile. "Why are you helping me?"
"Probably 'cause in a way, it helps me find closure to my problems. Plus, it'd be nice to hear how I beat you." Synthia grinned wickedly.
Mira glanced up at the dank sky. 'Lisanna wouldn't have wanted for me to stay caged like this; she'd hate me. Everyone has moved on, except me. So, what's holding me back?' she thought.
"Because you're scared to move on." She hears Lisanna's voice in her head. "You're scared of what people will think of you if you did. But, you need to know that Fairy Tail and everyone else has your back. No one is going to judge you. Besides, who can judge you?" She heard Lisanna giggling.
Mira smiled brightly and closed her eyes. She slowly activated her dormant magical container and began to let the magic flow. Dark purple hues began to shower her body as she felt the pure chaos course through her veins. Her body trembled with anticipation as goosebumps traveled up to her spine. She felt her body transforming. The power began to loosen to her command.
SATAN SOUL!
Mira opened her eyes and stared at her figure with a smile; her body was transformed into a partial demon. The electricity from earlier slowed her body from its original speed. It didn't help that her limbs still felt numb. She used her magic to temporarily block the electricity from completely shutting her system. She couldn't use her magic to take out the electricity since it already hit her nervous system.
Mira glanced back up to Synthia looking completely astonished. Mira grinned and charged at Synthia, which caught her opponent off-guard. She landed a destructive blow to the enemy's face, sending the other girl flying backward. She wasted no time and began to land more blows on Synthia without much hesitation.
Synthia blocked an attack and curled her fist in electricity and pushed it harshly into her opponent. Using this as her distraction, Synthia began to get payback. She dodged another attack and began to charge up. Synthia had a hard time with Mira's outlandish speed. But, Mira hadn't used her powers in years, creating a chilling thought in Synthia's mind. She sighed and released the memory spell. By lifting the spell, both of them were back on the battlefield. She jumped back as she narrowly dodged Mira's attack. Synthia charged her hands and sent a powerful lightning charge.
Mira got hit and cried out in anguish. She felt her body becoming paralyzed and watched as Synthia comes. She tried her best to connect her hands and sent a powerful stream of darkness at Synthia. Mira got up and fought back the pain and numbness. She got in front of her opponent and threw a right straight to the face and followed up by kneeing Synthia. Mira predicted that her opponent was beginning to struggle with overwhelming speed. She got hit with another charge of lightning and dropped to the ground a few meters away. She pushed herself from the ground and lunged quickly.
Synthia threw up her hands to block the attack but winced in pain. The attack left a purple bruise on her arm. She ducked down and got in an uppercut to her opponent. She followed up with a right straight but got blocked off. She found herself at a standstill while exchanging punches. Eventually, she found an opening and pushed her opponent back a few inches. Quickly, she hit the enemy's gut with electricity. This allowed her to land a few more blows before she was pushed back a few meters.
Mira's breathing became unstable as blood spewed from her mouth. She was grateful for the extra protection her form gave against Synthia's attacks. Mira glanced toward the side and witnessed the cannon still filling up with energy.
She needed to finish this battle, so she could go help her guild. She was engrossed in her thoughts that she didn't notice the electrical energy coming to attack her.
SPIKED CURRENTS!
Snakes of electricity pounced on Mira and fried her. She yelped in agony and crumbled to the ground. After a few seconds, she managed to get up but struggled to breathe. She failed to find her enemy but remained vigilant. Sensing something coming, she leaped into the air. She watched a streak of lightning become human from the place she was mere seconds ago. She relaxed her muscles and spread her wings. She flew down swiftly and sent her opponent flying. She proceeded to dodge the next oncoming attacks with ease and landed another blow to her enemy's gut.
Synthia was once again struggling with Mira's speed. She was sent flying once again, but this time, she managed to land on her feet. She ducked to the side narrowly, dodging her opponent. She decided to shift her form into electricity and flow into the nearby lighting system. She carefully watched the confusion on Mira's face and smiled. She got out of her form and hovered over Mira's body. She charged her fists, shoving them down on Mira's spine. Synthia's body lingered above Mira's crippled form; the blood oozing out of the body in streams as the burns around it began to sting horribly.
Mira tried to move her left arm, but she felt nothing but numbness. Her face contorted in pain as she bit down on her lip to stop any noises. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Putting more pressure on her other limbs, she got off the ground shakily. She stepped back and held her left arm; multiple burns were beginning to sting.
"You really did do a number to my arm." Mira chuckled dryly.
"I don't think I did enough," Synthia remarked quickly.
Mira used her speed and attacked her opponent multiple times. Soon enough, she dodged the several lightning strikes with some difficulty. She found a pattern with the strikes and narrowly got close to the enemy again. She sent Synthia flying into a building. Mira was already on Synthia's case.
Synthia hit the wall and came tumbling down to the floor. She forced herself up and left the building unnoticed. She stood beside the building clutching her stomach and coughing up blood. She closed her eyes and leaned her forehead on the wall. She was starting to realize why people feared Mira back then. No doubt, the She-Devil was a superior opponent. Synthia's moment of peace comes to an end - the wall exploded behind her. Seeing her opponent, Synthia shifted into electricity and traveled to another part of the city, far from the demon.
'That was way too close. I need to think of a plan and fast!' Synthia thought. She landed on the ground and gasped for her breath; it became increasingly tricky to breathe easily. She glanced around the town and felt a pang of guiltiness. 'Maybe, it wasn't the best to go attacking a guild as powerful as Fairy Tail for something so pointless.'
Before Synthia could move even a single step, she sensed Mira approaching quickly. Synthia gulped and frantically searched for somewhere to hide. She sensed some electrical current and hid in one of the abandoned buildings. She held her breath in fear of being caught.
"I thought you wanted to fight. Why are you hiding?" Mira asked aloud. She frowned and grimaced when she felt the pain in her arm. She sensed Synthia's presence nearby. Mira wanted to try to scare her opponent into coming into a clear opening. Mira smirked and carefully decided to break down every door in sight. Mira inched closer to Synthia's presence with every destruction of doors. Before Mira could destroy the last door, she was violently shoved back. She skidded to a halt.
Mira cursed herself and stared at her opponent. She leaped forward and swung her fist forward; only to hit the air. Mira kept swinging her fist at Synthia, but Mira missed every single one of her hits. Mira blocked against another strike of lightning with her forearm. She was pushed back by the attack and skidded to a stop. Using her wings, she closed the distance between Synthia and sent the poor girl flying.
Synthia's body was violently thrown into a wall. Synthia lied on her back against the broken bricks of the wall. She didn't want to stand up anymore; it hurt to even move a limb. She realized she was done for; there was nothing much left. The metallic objects gradually formed a barrier around her. In the middle of the barrier, one piece of a large metal rod stuck out. Synthia lifted one arm and punched it with a high voltage of electricity. The metal rod ignited before creating a massive wave of energy, which hurtled towards Mira.
RAILGUN!
Panic screamed throughout her body as Mira watched the beam of energy speeding toward her. She stormed into the air to avoid the onslaughter of energy. She glimpsed down at the wreckage left by the attack. The area was completely disseminated into piles of ash or crumbles. The entire area was out of power as the flames simmered relentlessly. The heaviness in her heart died down, but it still scared her. She flew down and sensed her enemy. She lifted her arm, pointing directly at her enemy. She summoned a magic circle underneath Synthia. In a matter of seconds, dark treacherous tentacles wrapped themselves around Synthia's body.
DARKNESS STREAM!
Synthia shrieked and howled when the pressure from the tentacles tightened. She tried to move around but ultimately found it impossible. She felt the chaotic energy pulsing through her whole body and cried out in anguish.
Mira took a step back and watched Synthia. "There's no point in escaping. The energy pulsing through your veins is already weakening you physically." Mira revealed calmly. She lifted her arm and created a large ball of dark energy.
SATAN BLAST!
A vast amount of dark energy was thrust at Synthia as it destroyed the surrounding area. After a few seconds, the attack died down. As ash and smoke absolved from the scene, Synthia's body was lying on the ground, immobilized.
Mira stepped closer to the body and crouched down. She checked the woman's pulse and sighed in relief; Synthia wasn't dead. She sighed and released her magical form. Dropping to the ground, she clutched her left arm as it began to cry in agony. She bit down on her dress from letting out a scream. After a few moments, she let go of her dress and stood up. Her eyes were glued on the Phantom Guild's giant robot. She spared one last glance at Synthia and walked towards the giant.
Though her body felt like giving out, she still had a duty to fulfill. After all, her family was still in danger, and she would be damned to let another person close to her die once again.
Thank you, Synthia...
Bottom Floor of Phantom Guildhall Giant
Juvia dusted off the dust from her clothes. She gazed up and wanted to rejoin back into the fight, but something was telling her to stay away. She listened to her gut and walked toward a hallway. She glanced at her side and watched as the raindrops stained the window at a large rate. The rest of the way, she kept her head down and away from the windows. She walked into another hallway until she perceived someone's magical signature. She quickly got into position as she watched a man with raven-spiked hair walking closer to her with a confused look.
Juvia backed up a little to create some distance between her and the man. She mustered up enough courage and asked, "Are you lost?"
He scratched the back of his and looked away. "Yeah, sort of," he mumbled. His cheeks turned into a dark shade of red.
She was about to say something before her eyes narrowed in on the man's figure; he was a Fairy Tail mage. She backed away as her eyebrows furrowed. "You're a Fairy Tail mage," she muttered dangerously low.
He jumped a little before realizing the situation. He glanced to his side and noticed the rain's speed becoming stronger. "You're a member of the Elemental Four," he mumbled under his breath. Fate loved to toy with him, he thought.
They both glared at each other intensely - nothing broke their conviction. A crack of thunder boomed as both of them got into position.
WATER SLICER!
ICE-MAKE: WAR HAMMER!
I crawled out of hell! (I think!) Stuff happened in the past year, and COVID definitely didn't help at all. I lost someone close to me, and I had to cut off a lot of friendships. I am better nowadays, but I still have my days. I do apologize for the long wait but bear with me. Hopefully, the chapters will be a little more frequent. The first chapter has been rewritten. Some changes:
- Lucy meeting up the Mystogan and Wendy earlier and in a village.
- The proper introduction of a dark guild.
- Lucy having a purpose for traveling around the kingdom other than finding her mother.
- How she obtains her Wizard name.
- I don't mention her meeting with the Heartfilias. This concept will be revisited and explained better in the closing of the Phantom Arc.
The rest of the changes are there, but you might want to go through reading that on your own for a better experience. I changed the tense for this chapter because I felt like it was needed. I'll be going back and doing the same for the previous chapters. I find it easier to write and convey my thoughts.
While I was 6ft underground, we reached 145 followers and 120 favorites. I literally am speechless. This is my first ever story and it's definitely not the best, but I'm glad y'all like it. I'll try my hardest to keep chapters entertaining as much as I can. But, thank you for your support. It means so much! For those who might think I might abandon this story, I won't unless I make an official statement that I would. Chapter releases will be hectic that much I can guarantee, but I won't abandon.
With that said, the next few chapters will be more fight-focused and more on the arc. I'm so ready to end this chapter and start the fillers and Oracion Seis. There will be more development with Lucy's and Erza's relationship after this arc, but I need to get this part of Lucy's backstory out of the way.
