Hinata didn't even realise that he was hurt, he was just so worried about his mom. When a doctor came to take a look at his injuries, he let him. He just sat there, tears streaming down his face while they cleaned his grazes and bandaged up his wrist that had apparently been strained when his mom pushed him aside. At the thought of his mom he started sobbing again. One of the nurses working on him stopped to comfort the 13-year-old, hugging him and stroking his hair in attempt to calm him down.
After 10 minutes of crying Hinata finally calmed down the nurse looked at him and asked, "Are you okay sweetie? Do you want some water?" Hinata just nods at her last question, too scared to trust his voice. When the nurse comes back with a cup of water, he carefully accepts it, drinking it slowly.
"I know you don't want to talk right now, but I just need to ask you some basic questions okay?" Hinata staring at his hands just nods.
"Okay, I'm going to start off simple. What's your name?" she asks in the kindest voice she can muster. It takes a few seconds before Hinata finally responds.
"Hinata Shoyo." He basically whispers. The nurse nods smiling at him while she writes down his answer.
"How old are you?"
"13," Hinata responds determined to give short answers so he doesn't have to talk as much.
"Do you have a dad or some sort of other parent?"
"No, dad left when I was 5,"
"Sorry for bringing it up. Do you have any other family members?"
"A sister, she's 8,"
"I'm sure she's cute," Hinata just nods, "Okay, I'll make sure to get a hold of her. Could you tell me her name?" She asks calmly. If his sister is 8, then she surly needs someone to pick her up.
"Her name's Natsu," The nurse quickly wrote down the name and gave it to another nurse telling her to try Find Natsu.
"Okay, I don't have many questions left, but is there another adult we can contact? And possibly their contact info?" Hinata was silent for a while but, he then remembered his friend.
"Yuuri. Yuuri Katsuki. He's a friend, his number is on my phone somewhere," he mumbled. The nurse was bit shocked to hear that the famous figure skater was this boy's friend, but she didn't question it. She just walked to the table that had the possessions Hinata had with him during the accident. She found his phone, unlocked it looked for the man's name through the severely cracked screen. She finally found it and motioned to Hinata that she was going outside the room to call him.
"Hello?" Yuuri answered.
"Hello, is this Yuuri Katsuki?" The nurse asked. Immediately Yuuri was confused, did something happen to Hinata?
"Um, Yes, is everything okay?"
"I'm calling you from Miyagi Central Hospital," Yuuri's breath got caught in throat, "Hinata Shoyo and his mother got involved in a hit and run, right now his mother isn't looking very good, and you were the emergency contact given,"
"Oh god," he asked, voice breaking, "Do you think she will make it?"
"Sorry sir, but I can't disclose that information, but she's currently still in surgery," she answered, whispering the last part.
"Thank you, I understand, I'll get there as soon as possible."
"You're welcome sir," she said before hanging up.

Yuuri immediately rushed to pack a bag, confusing Viktor.
"Yuuri? Is everything okay? Yuuri?" he called to the frantic man.
"Huh? Oh, um no. A friend of mine and his mom is in the hospital and his mom might not make it. She's the only family he has besides his little sister. And I need to get to them. Sorry I'm going to be missing training for a while," Yuuri responded not even looking up from the bag he was packing.
"Are they important to you?" Viktor asked with a serious tone.
"Huh? Of course, they are!"
"Then give me 10 minutes to pack a bag. I'm coming with you." He stated looking for a bag. Yuuri stopped what he was doing and looked up at Viktor with a serious expression. He looked him dead in they and gave a nod before turned around and carried on packing.

After a very long train ride up to Miyagi the skating duo made it to the hospital. They burst through the doors running to the receptionist's desk.
"How can I help you?" the lady looked up at them.
"Can you tell me what room Mrs. Hinata is in?" Yuuri asked.
"What is your relation to them?"
"Family friend, but technically family,"
"Room 396,"
"Thank you so much! Enjoy your day," Yuuri thanked before rushing off. When they finally found the room in question Viktor looked at Yuuri, "I'll wait out here, I know this is personal for you,"
"Thank you," Yuuri responded, his eyes starting to water, before walking in.
"Shoyo?" he asks looking at the boy that sat on the chair next to his mother's bed.
"Yuuri?" he asked choking back a sob. He got up and rushed to the older man, hugging him with as much strength as he could muster. Yuuri could feel his shirt get wet with Hinatas tears.
"Hey, its going to be okay, everything's going to be okay,"
"You don't know that," Hinata mumbled into his shirt. Just then Yuuri realised something.
"Sho, where's Natsu? Is she still at day-care?" he asked. He just felt Hinata nod his head.
"Okay, you're going to have to let go of me for a second. Viktor's here and I need you to tell me where Natsu's day-acre is so that he can go get her, okay?"
It took some convincing on Viktor's to tell the lady at the day-care centre that he wasn't in fact a kidnapper and that Natsu did in fact know him. He took her back to the hospital, and there the 4 people stayed with Mrs. Hinata in ICU, until the early hours of the morning where the damage done to her chest caused her lung to collapse. It was not a happy morning for her children and Yuuri, even Viktor who didn't know her that well.

"Shoyo look at me," Yuuri asked the boy whose eyes were red and puffy. "I know you don't want to think about this right now, but you and Natsu don't really have someone to look after you right now, so Viktor and I were wondering if you would like us to foster you for the time being," he asked with as soft as a voice he could muster.
"O-okay,"
Yuuri stayed with Natsu and Shoyo at their house while Viktor went back to Hasetsu to pack their bags for them. The owner of the ice rink Hinata was only to happy to allow Viktor and Yuuri to train there. Hinata was still depressed that his mom died, still partially thinking that it was his fault. But Yuuri and Viktor were both trying to help him. They managed to get him back to skating, not competitively yet, but still skating. Viktor offering to help train Hinata was only part of the reason. Hinata just wanted things to go back to normal, he wanted to go back to school, to start training, go to ballet lessons again. But most of all he wanted his mom back.

It had been 4 months and Viktor and Yuuri were still fostering the Hinata siblings. Things had almost gone back to normal. Hinata was his normal happy self, but there were still some days where he was very quiet and sullen looking, and some nights where the older skaters could hear him crying himself to sleep. Yuuri's competitions were coming up soon giving Hinata an idea.
"Yuuri,"
"Yes Sho,"
"I was wondering if I could talk to you and Viktor," Hinata said. Yuuri could tell that this was something, and to say that he was a little scared was an understatement. Was something wrong? Did Hinata not want them to foster him anymo-
"Its nothing bad, at least I hope not," Hinata said when he saw his foster dads face. While Natsu was in her room playing wither dolls, the three skaters were busy sitting on the sofa, Hinata across from Yuuri and Viktor.
"So, umm, I know Yuuri's competitions for the Grand Prix are coming up soon and firstly I wanted to know if you would leave me in charge of Natsu for the days you are gone. And secondly, I wanted to maybe start competing internationally again," His last statement was followed by yells of happiness, both Viktor (who had grown very close to Hinata and the few months they were together) and Yuuri was so happy and excited for the boy.
"First of all, if you want us to leave you in charge then that's fine, if not, I'm sure Mari wouldn't mind coming over for a few days to watch over you two. Secondly, we're both so happy for you, I know these past few months haven't been the best for you, but I happy that you are getting into competing again," Yuuri said with a huge smile on his face.
"Thank you. And I think I might be old enough to look after me and Natsu while you are out winning gold. But that's not it, I was also wondering if you could maybe teach me English since I'll be going overseas a lot more now. And also, maybe, Viktor? Could you also maybe teach me how to speak Russian?" Hinata said very quickly looking at his hands in his lap. Both men were ecstatic at this, especially Viktor at the last comment.
"That's not it. It's fine if you guys say no to this one, but I was also wondering if I could start volleyball. Its just that the day my mom died I saw this match of one of the schools here and their one player was so amazing, and it made me want to play. It was what my mom and I were talking about before the car. I know my schedule will be very busy, but skating is only in the late afternoon, and ballet is only on the weekends, and volleyball would be after school, so please can I play." His voice got a bit emotional when talking about his mother, but besides that he was speaking very fast to get everything out as fast as possible. While Hinata sat there breathless, Viktor and Hinata gave each other a look before bursting out laughing. Hinata didn't know if he wanted to cry or be angry at them.
"Could've just told me no. You didn't have to laugh in my face," he mumbled. At this both men stopped laughing, giving each other a laugh before Yuuri started talking.
"No, it's not that Sho, its just we were laughing at how stressed and worried you were about this. You don't have to be worried sweetie, if you want to play volleyball you play volleyball, then you play volleyball. Yes, you might have a really busy schedule now. But if its something that your passionate about then I-, no, we won't stop you." By now, tears were rolling down Hinata's cheeks. He looked up the two older men before whispering.
"Thanks dad,"
To say that Yuuri and Viktor lost their shit would be understatement, they were both so happy.

The next 2 and a half years were extremely busy, between Yuuri getting silver and the Grand Prix Final, Viktor competing again, them getting engaged and eventually married, the couple adopting the Hinatas, Hinata winning the Junior Grand Prix Final twice, before taking a break before his senior debut, and Hinata's first official volleyball match. The loss of his first match wasn't as happy of a moment as the rest but it was still up there.
His parents allowed him to join Karasuno, seen as it was his dream school, and because it was also conveniently close to the ice rink he trained at. But his first day wasn't what he expected. Especially when his sworn enemy from his first volleyball match was there.
