Angelina let out a shaky breath as Professor McGonagall, as the lady had introduced herself only moments prior, left them to listen to the thousands of voices that were filling a larger hall not too far away. Every second made her more nervous than the last.
Her mother had spoken of Hogwarts with a great deal of fondness that her father had never quite held for the ancient castle, other than meeting her mother, of course.
A pair of twins snuck up on her, causing her to let out a soft yelp.
"And who are you?"
"Standing here all alone?"
"I think she needs some company, Gred."
"I must agree, Forge."
Angelina stared at the two for a moment, taken aback by their speech, but recognizing the voices she had heard speaking while they were crossing the lake. "I'm Angelina Johnson."
"He's Gred," the twin on her left informed her.
"And he's Forge," the twin in her right added.
The doors opened again, "The others are ready for you. Form a line."
Angelina shuffled behind the twins, who were silent for what was probably the first time that night.
They marched closer to the sound of voices echoing around a large hall, and Angelina could feel her mouth go dry at the thought of being stared at by so many people.
But, but if her father could do it, despite being terrified of talking to people he had never met, she definitely could. With that thought, Angelina straightened her slouching posture, and entered the Great Hall.
The ceiling would have drawn out a gasp from her if she wasn't as tense as she already was. Their line had broken into groups already, and the twins were beside her again.
"Why are you so tense?"
"None of these people are going to eat you!"
"Or at least we hope not!"
"Otherwise we're going to have to eat them too…"
"They don't look particularly appetising, Forge," the other twin, who Angelina assumed was Gred, said with a disgusted look on his face.
"They'll put me off my food," Forge whispered back conspiratorially.
Angelina giggled, and they stopped at the front of the hall. Where a rugged hat, began singing.
"I want a hat like that," Gred said in awe.
"Well, you're not allowed to have one, because I'm going to have one."
"Neither of you are going to have one, because-"
A silence descended on the hall, stopped Angelina from finishing her thought.
Professor McGonagall read the first name off the scroll that Angelina hadn't previously noticed her holding. It wasn't too long before…
"Johnson, Angelina."
It took her a moment before she could bring herself to start moving. She only got a glance at the hall filled with faces of people who were simply watching her, before the brim of the talking hat covered her eyes.
Ah. Interesting, interesting.
Angelina wondered what exactly was so interesting.
I know just where to put you.
"GRYFFINDOR!"
