Lucius walked through the darkened corridors of the dungeons, with only the flickering torches on the walls for light. Only Slytherins ventured this far, as most of the other houses preferred the sunlight that filled every other crevice of Hogwarts.

The Snakes preferred the darkness and solitude to gather their thoughts. Perhaps it was the fact that they knew no one would attack them down here, or that, if they were attacked, the only people they could blame would be the other Slytherins, and there were many ways to get back at each other that were not obvious to the other houses. The occasional stranger who entered the dungeons was usually a lost first year, who had taken a wrong turn somewhere.

Today, though, wasn't about pondering the other houses.

Today was the day he would be accepted into the Death Eater ranks. He would join the people who were fighting for the pureblood ways and purity of blood.

Today, he wouldn't just be another pureblood, he would begin his journey to fight for his kind, something his father had been telling him about since he had been a child.

He had waited a long time, wondering whether or not he was prepared, whether he was worth enough for it.

Finally, he was ready.
