"Back to school already? Where did summer go?"

It was the day before they were to return to Hogwarts already, which was ridiculous because it felt like summer had begun only yesterday. Sirius could barely even remember what he had been doing for the entire summer break.

"It disappeared somewhere within your bedroom doors, I would assume," Regulus answered wryly, his gaze resting on his older brother's prone form. Regulus's own body was straight, posture as had been trained into him, and unlike his brother who seemed to have given up on all of it.

"That's not fair, Reg," Sirius complained, lifting his head maybe an inch off the chair before it returned to its original position.

"I never said it was," Regulus sent a smirk his brother's way, "besides, Mother is probably going to be here at any moment. I would prefer not to go deaf."

"Why don't you tell her that?" Sirius muttered, but straightened anyway.

Regulus sent him an unamused look, and returned to his book.

"Speaking of the devil…"

"SIRIUS ORION BLACK-"

"Oh, Merlin…"
