"This is your dormitory," the prefect said, pointing up a flight of stairs.
Sirius nodded nervously, waiting for one of his housemates, new roommates now, to make the first move. He was the first Black to be sorted into Gryffindor, and he was rightfully nervous.
The rest of the Gryffindors could hate him because of his parents. He didn't want to seem like them, and possibly make the situation worse.
"Well, we're all just standing here," the boy closest to Sirius said. If Sirius remembered correctly, he was a Potter. A cousin of his, although most purebloods were his cousins, so that wasn't saying much.
One of the other boys laughed nervously.
"Well, if you don't want to move, you can continue standing there. I'm going to check out the dorm," the boy walked up the stairs, leaving the rest of them to stare at each other for a moment.
Sirius took a deep breath and followed the Potter, only to realise he wasn't the only one. He had walked into the timid-looking boy he had noticed earlier. They sent each other small smiles, before the other boy motioned for Sirius to head up first.
Smiling gratefully, Sirius headed to the dorm, glad that being Sorted into Gryffindor didn't look like it would be as bad as he thought it would.
