Curiosity Killed the Cat
It was a normal day in the dorms of Class 1-A. The kids had gathered in the common area as usual for some chatting and studying. Today had been one of their days off, and they each had their own agendas. Some decided to study for their upcoming math test. Others accepted the fact that they would fail and slacked off with their friends. Little did they know...a strange creature infiltrated the dorms.
"Mew." A kitten exclaimed as it rubbed up against Shoto Todoroki's left leg. It purred as it jumped up into his lap and sat down. Todoroki froze in surprise but then gave a good scratch to the kitten's chin.
"Wha-TODOROKI WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?" Mina Ashido exclaimed, running over to her classmate and snatching the cat out of his lap, its legs sprawled out as she gripped it tightly.
"I don't know. It just showed up." Todoroki shrugged, reaching for the kitten who now hung paralyzed with fear in the hands of a pink girl.
"Aww, what a pretty Calico!" Koda said, gently taking the cat from Mina and scratching its head. "Don't be afraid, little one. We're your friends." The kitten melted into his embrace from Anivoice, and Koda held it tight.
"It's so cute!" Ochaco said, giving it a quick pet on the head.
"And so small. It's like a little stuffed animal." Hagakure gushed.
"Where did it come from?" Kaminari asked.
"I must've crept in from outside. There's no collar or anything." Koda said.
"Well, what do we do? We can't just send it outside. It'll be completely defenseless." Kirishima asked.
"It can stay here! If we convince Aizawa-sensei…" Mina pondered.
"She can stay in my room if there's no other option. My Anivoice will come in handy." Koda said.
"She?" Mina questioned.
"Yeah. Calicos are mainly girls. So, most likely, it's a she." Koda replied. This was the most he had said since any of them could remember. Guess the new animal was making him come out of his shell.
"She wanted to sit with me originally," Todoroki muttered bitterly, wishing he had the kitten for a little bit longer.
"I want to hold her!" Kaminari exclaimed.
"Me too!" Hagakure chimed in.
"Guys, shouldn't we talk to Aizawa-sensei about this?" Izuku Midoriya interrupted, bringing a touch of reason to the desperate shouts of his classmates.
"He's in meetings today, so we're on our own...Let's play with her!" Mina said, reaching for the kitten. Kota held it tighter.
"We can dress it up. I think I have a bow that will make her eyes sparkle!" Aoyama said, glitter materializing around him as if by magic.
"Guys, can't you see that she's overwhelmed? Give her some space!" Kota exclaimed. The kitten trembled in his arms. The students of Class 1-A slowly backed away.
The kitten tried to shimmy out of Kota's arms, and he gently set her down on the ground. She waddled over to Todoroki once again and jumped in his lap, favoring his left side.
"How come Todoroki gets to have a turn?" Mina fumed.
"Seems she likes the warmth." Todoroki smiled as he willed himself to heat up just a tiny bit, making his skin a little warmer than usual. The kitten purred with delight. Todoroki stroked her colorful coat, and the purr's volume proceeded to increase, sounding like a steady engine.
"Wow, Todoroki, who knew you were good with animals?" Kirishima exclaimed.
"Guess I have a gift." Todoroki shrugged, scratching the kitten behind her ears. She nuzzled his hand with her soft nose.
"So...what're we gonna do? We don't even have the necessary things for taking care of a cat." Ochaco said.
"Exactly. We have no way to feed her proper food, and where is she supposed to use the bathroom? She'll end up making a mess!" Ida said, chopping the air with his robot-like arm.
"I might have some stuff that could work," Kota said, rushing upstairs to his room. After a minute or so, he rushed back down with a bowl and a small can.
"Thankfully, I had some cat food stored away; I forget why." He said, opening the lid and spilling the contents into the bowl. The kitten jolted up at the sound and pranced over to the bowl, licking up its contents with delight.
"Once again, we need bathroom accommodations!" Ida reiterated.
"I have a litter box up in my room for my bunny. I can take her up there every half hour to make sure she doesn't have an accident." Kota said, petting the kitten as she continued to eat.
"So...when can we play with the cute kitty?" Ochaco asked.
"She needs to eat everyone. Why don't we give her some time and then we can play. We were in the middle of a study session after all." Momo Yaoyorozu said.
The kids reluctantly agreed and left Kota to take care of the sweet kitty. Their minds wandered as Momo explained the lesson, wondering how much longer until they would be able to hold the small kitten in their hands.
After about 10 minutes, Denki Kaminari gasped, peering into his lap. "Guys...I'VE BEEN CHOSEN!" He exclaimed, spreading his arms out wide. The kids looked into his lap to see the small kitty curled up in a ball, scooting closer into his sweatshirt. The students let out a synchronous "awww."
"She's so small." Kaminari smiled, wrapping his sweatshirt around the kitten. She purred with joy. "And so snuggly."
"She's so peaceful," Jiro said. "Whoever would've guessed that she would've liked you, Jammingway?"
"Hey! All the ladies love me!" Kaminari retorted, holding the kitten up to his chest. He could feel the soft purr emanating from the small creature.
"Guys, we need to focus! Our test is in two days!" Momo prodded.
"In a minute, in a minute," Kaminari said, beaming with pride.
The kitten got bored of him and leaped out of his arms, leaving a dejected Kaminari and a laughing Jiro in her wake. She skittered over to Izuku and jumped in his lap, startling the green-haired boy.
"Oh great, now Midoriya has her." Denki rolled his eyes.
"It's not like I did anything!" Izuku defended. He timidly scratched the kitten's head.
"You totally stole her from me!"
"She left you on her own terms, Kaminari!" Sero interjected.
"Hey, you guys stay out of this!"
The kitten left his lap and meandered to the kitchen, jumping on the counter. She looked at the bowl of fruit and promptly pushed it over, spilling the contents all over the floor.
"No, kitty, no!" Mina yelped, rushing towards the kitten. The cat scampered away and into the elevator. Before any of the kids could stop her, it closed.
"No!" The students cried, frantically pressing the button to open it again. The doors opened slowly and the cat skittered through their feet, bolting towards the stairwell. Unfortunately, Sato had just come down and the kitten escaped up the stairs.
"Sato! Why didn't you stop her?" Ida scolded.
"It was too late!" Sato defended.
They whipped the door open and flooded the stairwell, only to have a wave of dread wash over them. They'd left the doors to the floors open.
"Of all the days…" Tsuyu muttered.
"Everyone split up! We gotta find her before she gets into more mischief!" Ida exclaimed, rushing through the entrance to the third floor. The group of kids dispersed, desperately hoping they'd kept their doors closed.
Ida ran to his room and found it ajar. He knew he always slid it shut, and his mind raced. Slowly opening it, his eyes filled with dread.
"MY GLASSES!" He yelped, kneeling to the ground where his tons of glasses lay. The kitten had somehow snuck into his room and pushed his countless pairs of glasses off the shelf. "SOMEONE FIND THAT FELINE!"
The kids shivered at what horrible things Ida could've found. They each searched high and low for the mischievous kitty, some finding their own rooms opened by some miraculous force. The kitten was smart, they had to admit that at the very least.
"My All Might rug!" Izuku cried, looking at the mess the kitten had made. Apparently, wreaking havoc was very hard work for a little kitty and she decided that a rug was a great place to relieve herself.
"Guys, she got into my room!" Jiro yelled. Some of her smaller instruments had been knocked over and her sheet music laid scattered across the dorm. She sighed. This was going to take forever to organize.
The kids continued to search, Koda calling out with his Anivoice, but to no avail. The kitten was nowhere to be found.
"Guys! We found her!" Kirishima called from the fourth floor. The kids rushed up to the hallway to find Bakugou holding the kitten Simba-style.
"Which one of you idiots let a cat run loose? It tried getting into my room." Bakugou scowled.
"It just showed up. We don't know where it came from." Kaminari shrugged.
"Well next time, keep it out of my room," Bakugou growled, shoving the cat into Kirishima's arms. The red-haired boy pet her head and she purred.
"You, little kitty, are in so much trouble."
The kitten let out a soft "mew," and the students had to fight to keep composed against the power of overwhelming cuteness.
...
They took her back downstairs to the common area, where she fell asleep in Todoroki's lap. They cleaned up the messes that she had made and made sure that the doors were shut tight.
The front door opened and Aizawa walked in. Despite the fact that he was in "meetings" all day, the objects he was carrying in his arms said otherwise. Cat food, a scratching post, a mini yellow sleeping bag to match his. His students stared back at him in shock.
"Aizawa-sensei...what're you doing with all that pet supplies?" Izuku asked.
"Does it matter?" Aizawa retorted.
"Is it for this little kitty, perhaps?" Todoroki said, gesturing to the kitten on his lap, softly purring from the comforting warmth.
Aizawa froze. "Where did you find that?"
"She just walked in here. We don't know where she came from." Kaminari answered.
"You still haven't answered our question sensei...what're you doing with the cat supplies?" Mina repeated.
Aizawa sighed. "Okay...I may or may not have found the kitten abandoned in a box and decided to take it home."
The students gasped.
"Don't you dare tell anyone. You keep this a secret, and the cat stays. You spill the beans, kitty goes away."
"We won't say a word, Aizawa-sensei!" Kirishima exclaimed.
"But wait, isn't it against the rules?" Ida asked.
"We won't say a word...right Ida?" Mina said, letting some acid pool in her hand. "Unless you want melted engines."
Ida gulped. "No. My lips are sealed."
"Great. Give Maki to me, please." Aizawa said, reaching for the sleeping kitten.
"Maki? Isn't that a type of sushi?" Momo asked.
"It is indeed. I decided to name her Maki. End of story." Aizawa said, setting down the cat products and gently bringing the kitten into his arms. She purred with delight. "I hope she wasn't any trouble."
The kids laughed. "Nope. Just a curious little kitty, that's all."
AN: Hi everyone, thank you so much for reading this! It really means a lot! I had a few things I wanted to say to close. First of all, I struggled with how to write Tenya's name since it can be spelled Ida or Iida. I ended up going with the spelling in the manga, so I'm so sorry if that ticked anyone off. Second, the name of the kitty is actually a tribute to the spinoff series My Hero Academia: Vigilantes in its own little way. If you read that manga, you'll hopefully know what I'm talking about.
Thank you once again for reading this. Hope you all enjoyed it! I am all for constructive criticism so I can make reading more enjoyable for all of you! Don't be afraid to give me suggestions for future one-shot prompts. I have a couple more ideas in mind, but I would love to hear your opinions. I'll be sure to give you a shoutout! :)
