Ron eagerly watched as his father and Percy played their daily game of chess. It had been Percy who had bugged their father first, but soon it had been Ron bugging both of them so that he could watch them play. Ron enjoyed watching them, occasionally whispering to clarify a certain move or strategy with one side.
It was fascinating watching as one side looked to be winning, then the tables turned and the other was! Neither his father nor Percy were much better than the other and that simply made the chess matches even more interesting than they normally were.
Ron couldn't wait until he was old enough that his mother would let him play! She said it was too violent for him to play right now. Ron couldn't possibly understand why!
The game was simply beautiful! So what if the pieced got brutally destroyed? That just made every move be more carefully examined, and they could fix the pieces up again later anyway!
For now, Ron would continue to eagerly watch, taking in all the strategies and planning his own for when he was allowed to play. There were so many things he wanted to try out, strategies he had never told his father or his brother, just waiting below the surface to be used.
Ron couldn't wait.
