A/N: Here are a few scattered moments in 'Need'. Thanks so much for your reviews, they make my day!
Need
"Boy, how longs that feast gonna last?" The Colonel says, weakly lowering his axe. It had been two days since they'd heard from Daniel, they were concerned about him but whenever they asked a guard they were hit into silence.
"I don't know sir. But I don't know how much longer I want to be doing this." Sam replies, exhausted, wiping some of the dirt and sweat facemask that has formed on her face. They knew their time in the mine was coming to an end as they heard the guards enter, the same time they did yesterday.
They are ordered to stop. The three members of SG1 fall to the ground. Sam has found a spot to rest her head on some rock, she appears to have passed out with exhaustion. Teal'c looking worse for wear looks at the Colonel for any sign of an order to escape. Jack shrugs, and says, "We need a plan. We need Daniel."
Jack was livid. Lava boiling inside of him wants to break something livid. 'All you guys have to do is hang in there'- was Daniel for real? He would give a damn about the side effects that Daniel was showing, but he was too pissed at him to care right now. When he said they'd break out without him, he meant it. Now he knows Carter will put up a fight, but that doesn't matter because right now he is pissed. And tired. And hungry. And exhausted. Why the hell are they in a mine? Why did Daniel get them into his mess? He needed to hit something. Oh wait, that need is perfect- as that's all they are allowed to do. He slung the axe into the rock in front of him, then again, and again. Each hit filled with a grander sense of pissed-off-ness than the last.
"Sir." Sam says, in a tone which means she's going to justify something.
"Don't. I don't want to hear it Carter."
"I'm angry too. But It's the side effects from the sar-"
"He shouldn't be using the damn thing in the right place! He has one job. ONE! Get us the hell out. And what's he doing? Talking marriage with his suicidal sarcophagus loving princess." Another slam. She had no answer to that.
"The sarcophagus was not intended for human use. We do not know the further effects this will have on Daniel Jackson. We must stop him."
"Well that's kinda hard when we're stuck down here Teal'c." Another slam.
[Daniel slams down his fist in a rage and knocks over some bottles.]
DANIEL:
You've never really known what love is have you?
CARTER:
See, the Daniel I know would never have said that.
[Daniel knocks over some more items and walks out of the room.]
She is shocked. She knows that wasn't the real Daniel, but hearing that from his mouth really hurt. Her and Daniel have an amazingly unique bond. He's the only one on the team that knows the insides and outs of her past relationships, he checked in on her everyday for a month after Jonas died and she'd spent countless nights sitting with him when he'd tried to drink the memory of Sha're out of him. To have that cruel sentence thrown at her like that threw her off guard. She didn't know why, but she wanted to cry. She could feel her throat burning, she swallowed and tried to focus on her work. But then the burning was accompanied by a pulling sensation on her throat, she opened her mouth for air and was met with some tears.
After a minute or so, she gathers up her notes into a sort of pile to put away… somewhere. She has no idea what to do with it, she just needs to get on with something now.
The Colonel enters, agitated, "Carter, has Daniel said anything to y-". He frowns and stops in his tracks, he looks around, "Is everything alright Captain?"
"Yeah sir I'm fine. Has Daniel said anything about what?" She says with with feigned enthusiasm, and water filled eyes.
Still frowning, he steps a little closer. "Carter, are you alright?"
"Sir, I'm just worried about Daniel." She replies. He exhales a sigh and thinks, yeah- no. He looks up and notices the mess in Carter's lab, things on the floor, some glass thing smashed. What happened here? His eyes shoot towards Carter and scans her, okay she's not hurt.
"Carter, what happened here?"
"Well sir, Daniel lost it a little."
Yeah no kidding. He glances at the papers around his feet. "A little?"
"Yeah, I might have provoked it a little bit by reminding him that he still has a wife."
"Ah. Anything else happen?"
"Sir, he's clearly addicted to the sarcophagus, as a result he said some things. Honestly, I think that-"
"What did he say?"
She drops her head, lifts it and moves her jaw to the side, biting her cheek. "He um-" She pauses. He thinks, Okay, Daniel has clearly hit a soft spot. He realizes that Carter isn't in shape to tell him all the details of what Daniel said, he won't push it as it was clearly personal as otherwise she would have told him.
"Well I'm worried too. Let's go see Hammond." He softly commands. She opens her mouth to ask something but he interrupts, "Carter, a behavior like this has to be reported- especially in Daniel's circumstance."
"I completely agree sir."
"Good." He turns to point the way out. She nods and proceeds to walk past him. He lightly taps her shoulder as she goes by, "Hey Carter, whatever he said. He's being an ass at the moment. And if at any point you wanna tell me what it was, you know you can right?"
She smiles, "Thank you, sir."
He taps her in response and follows her out. Whatever the sarcophagus did to Daniel they're going to fix, and telling Hammond is the only place to start.
The post mission briefing came to a close. General Hammond dismisses them and heads back into his office.
"For the record Daniel, you look better with the glasses." Jack says, tucking in this chair.
"Thanks Jack." Daniel replies. "I'm sorry for the way I acted guys. You know anything I did, I'm sorry. And for keeping you down in those filthy mines, that was just… yeah, I'm sorry."
"Your actions were the result of the effects of the sarcophagus Daniel Jackson."
"Yeah I know Teal'c. But I'm still sorry. Truly." Teal'c nods in recognition.
"Well Daniel, you weren't acting too different to you without your coffee in the mornings." Jack says smirking. Daniel smiles in response, he takes that as an all clear from Jack. Jack and Teal'c leave the room, Sam quietly begins to follow.
"Hey Sam, wait up a minute." Daniel walks over to her. "I feel so bad-"
"Daniel, it's done. I know you didn't mean it."
"I'm still sorry."
"I know."
"We back to being us again?"
"It'll never change Daniel. Unless you use a sarcophagus again, then I'm probably going to have to shoot you."
He laughs. "I'll take that."
