A/N: This one is short- and snappy. Because they definitely would have had moments like this.
Thank you for the reviews and the follows! I appreciate you all.
Thor's Chariot
Following a long debriefing with Hammond, Carter was free to run back to her lab, Teal'c took charge of the gym, Daniel ran to translate and Jack went to eat. He sat in the mess hall eating his lukewarm pie, trying to simplify the mission in his head in order to write as short report as he could. His thoughts were interrupted by a hungry archaeologist who slammed his tray full of deserts down as he sat opposite Jack.
"So what do you think of Sam and her ability to use Goa'uld devices? Pretty great isn't it?" Daniel says.
Jack raises his brow; he'd forgotten about that. It made him feel uneasy watching Carter using the device earlier, it just didn't sit right with him. "Yeah, sure Daniel." He brushes off.
"Well you don't sound excited. This is so big. Even you should be fascinated by this. Jack, you've found a new weapon. Sam could be key in so many discoveries and for helping defeat the Goa'uld."
"Carter's not a weapon Daniel. And quite frankly, unless she's wanting to torture someone those hand things do the same damage as some C4."
"Well what about the healing device?"
"Daniel. We don't know the side effects of that. If it's got anything to do with how the sarcophagus works, then she's not gonna be working that either."
"What- why are you so- are you uncomfortable with the fact that Sam can use Goa'uld technology?"
"No of course not. It's just… it's a little weird. I mean c'mon, watching her earlier… it gave me the chills."
"I thought it was great."
"Of course you did Daniel."
"Hey guys!" A grinning Carter says.
"Oh hey Sam, take a seat." Daniel invites, as Jack kicks out the chair diagonal to him. "We were just talking about you."
"What-why?" she says scared. Why does she always assume the worst? Jack never understood it.
"Jack and I were talking about you using the Goa'uld hand device."
"Oh." She bites her lip. Yeah, I thought so. Jack thought. He knew she'd find this uncomfortable. Since Carter had the snake in her she'd pretended like that never happened, it was something left unaddressed. He didn't entirely like that she'd not really explained him about what she went through, well she had- enough to stop questions. But not enough that it's still something she struggles with. But he got it. If it had happened to him, he wouldn't wanna talk about it.
"I wonder what other things you'll be able to use." Daniel says enthusiastically.
"Yeah, who knows." She replies, not so enthusiastic.
"Carter, you alright?"
"Yeah, I guess I just thought all that was behind me."
"Sam you have an opportunity to use things we can't."
"Yeah I know but Daniel it's not that- even though it is weird to use the very thing that we get tortured with- It's the whole experience."
"What having the Tok'ra in you?"
"Daniel we don't even know if it was a 'Tok'ra'." Jack snaps.
"Well sir, it was."
"Carter, you had a Goa'uld symbiote in you. You don't think it would have, oh I don't know… lie?"
"Sir. With all due respect I think I'd know." She says firmly, with eye contact that presented a challenge. He wasn't going to push it, but he was right. He'd met Goa'ulds. He knew they were lying scum and it pissed him off that Daniel jumps for joy because Carter has traces of the thing in her and that Carter decides to believe that a goa'uld is 'good'.
"Yeah I'm kinda doubting that. What made the thing in you any different to Apophis? or Hathor? Or any of the snakeheads we've met."
"Because I have it's memories sir. And, Jolinar died to save me."
Jack huffs. He wants to address this topic as sensitively as he can, but his temper is being tested and he just can't get hold of the itching feeling to tell them all to shut up and stop defending a goa'uld. "Carter. it died because you fought it off."
"It's not the common cold sir." She snaps, which he raises his brows at.
"I've read the legends; I do actually think Sam is right here. And I bet the Tok'ra use Goa'uld devices ,so why shouldn't we."
"Daniel, would you cool it!" Jack says with disbelief, and forkful of frustration. What is Daniel's deal today?!
"What? I'm just saying-"
"Look, we've not found anything that spectacular that Carter's new special powers can give use so why are you obsessed with the fact that she can use a hand device that's sole purpose is to torture people like us?"
"Not that I'm siding with Daniel here sir, but if I was to use the device it obviously wouldn't be for that."
"Wha-what?" Jack exclaims, shocked at… everything. "That's not my point. You know what, I don't have time for this I'll catch you both later." Jack pushes his tray towards Daniel and leaves, pissed off. He storms down the corridor and comes to a halt at the elevator. His index finger angrily attacks the button but he had no patience to stand and wait for a minute. He turns around to walk, he doesn't know where but he doesn't care. He just knows that Daniel's ability to get under his skin was strong today. He supposed that he was used to Carter siding with him. It was fine that she went against him, hell he encourages her to speak her mind. But don't side with the damn goa'uld.
'Colonel O'Neill to the gate room. I repeat Colonel O'Neill to the gate room.'
Ugh what now? Jack pivots and heads to the gate room, duty calls.
