Chapter 19 - Swallow their pride

The song lyrics near the end of the chapter are from the song: Cailin Russo and Chrissy Costanza - Pheonix (highly suggest listening to this while reading!).

Sakura grabbed the pack from her bed lightly, pulling it up over her shoulder with ease. She looked around the room, scanning the small, confined space in case she missed anything.

After making sure everything was in place and all her belongings were in fact already in her pack, she ran her hand through her locks messily, as if trying to relieve all of the tension she held since yesterday.

It didn't help. She looked through the cramped window of her room, her eyes following the rising early morning sun as she pulled the anbu mask over her face.

She turned around, silky strands of hair falling over her shoulder as she was heading towards the door with long, fast strides.

Her long, slim fingers curled around the door handle, pushing It down as she pulled the cheap wooden door towards herself.

She nearly bumped into him as he was standing just inches away from her door. She eyed his strong build, lean muscles nearly exposed under the thin, black material that was part of his formal anbu gear.

Her eyes moved slowly, up to his face, noticing the way his curly strands tenderly fell over his temples and forehead, nearly touching the blackness of his sharp, knowing eyes.

Sakura was nearly hypnotized by that dark gaze of his, her heart fluttered tightly in her chest as she felt a wave of anxiety rippling down, straight into the pit of her stomach.

Her eyes widened slightly, a response to the unexpected feeling of surprise that washed over her as she continued looking at him without meaning to do so.

"Taicho?" She asked, unsurely with a glint of astonishment etched into her tone.

"Meeting in my room…" Shisui licked his lips, his voice calm as he moved his face forward, lowering it almost dangerously, near her masked face. "Now." He looked at her, dark, feline eyes staring into her green bewildered ones, inspecting.

His hot breath fell onto the smooth surface of her anbu mask, never touching her skin, only the outer part of her mask, even so, her breath almost hitched at the proximity.

"Hai." Her voice came out as a breathless whisper, nearly silent as he moved his face away, his strong, broad back now turned to her as she followed soundlessly.

Her lips were pursed in a frown as her eyes followed him, the hardness of her gaze almost crushing. She wanted nothing more but to reach out for the man in front of her, she wanted to feel the warmness of his body, to feel his hands wrapping around her body, but she couldn't have any of it.

She shouldn't push her luck any further, it was more than enough that he was considering giving her a few words, therefore, she couldn't ask for anything more, not from him. Not when he had someone else on his mind.

Her heart clenched at the thought, this man took a piece of her sanity with himself. Once again, Sakura found herself wishing for something she couldn't have, and she couldn't help but feel disappointed at the way things turned out in the end.

To be honest, she didn't know what she wanted from this man. She didn't know why she felt this strong pull to him, and she told herself she didn't care even if it was an effect of that damn kekkei genkai of hers. All she wanted were honest answers, not from him, but from herself.

She followed him into the room with a soft click behind her. Her eyes fell onto the tall, dark figure against the wall and she averted her gaze immediately as if she was burned.

She didn't know what she expected when she saw Itachi leaning against the wall, but Sakura became even more tense. His presence increased her nervousness and she felt like even the temperature in the room rose by several degrees as well.

She didn't want to remember what happened last night

"We will reach Amegakure in about three days." She heard Shisui's smooth timbre and looked at him unknowingly, through the corner of her lashes.

She gave a short nod to the team leader, as if asking him to proceed.

"Therefore, to avoid suspicion from Amegakure shinobi we will be walking the rest of the way, as well as using a civilian disguise." He said.

Sakura nodded again, trying to avoid the suspicious eyes that fell upon her form from both men.

"After we leave the inn, I expect you to change into your disguise. Also…" he cleared his throat. "No fighting unless absolutely necessary, we don't need extra attention, especially since there is a chance of running into Akatsuki members. Understood?" Shisui said again, his voice low, with a hint of threat to it.

"Hai." This time Sakura answered, her voice stern and her answer simple, leaving no room to argue.

She heard a soft grunt from Itachi's side but refused to look his way.

"Good, we can leave now." He left the room first and she followed.

After they were a few good kilometers away from the Inn and the village they stayed at everyone stopped for a good minute. Sakura knew what that meant as she quickly formed the seals for the transformation jutsu.

With a light puff of smoke, she took a completely new form. Short brown hair fell just over her shoulder blades, rustling in the wind softly. She looked through the corner of her lashes, facing the world with a new set of deep brown eyes.

She looked like a completely different person, but her features were the same, they were followed by the same tender look she always held on her face unknowingly. An expression that was simply a part of Sakura.

Her clothes, although simple, were still fitting, complimenting her earthy, darker tones. She wore a beige colour kimono, that wrapped around her figure with ease.

And although she looked nothing like her former self, she still held something within her that just screamed Sakura if you looked closely enough.

Unintentionally, Sakura attracted four pairs of dark eyes that were curiously observing her new look, the blackness of their eyes scanning her figure and studying her face in great detail.

She threw some questioning looks to the Uchihas, clearly confused about the whole ordeal that just unfolded.

However, what she caught instead were two, very stoic faces that quickly disappeared from her point of view, but the glint she caught in the darkness of their eyes was almost curious.

And although, both men looked simple, almost too simple given their usual looks, looks that could stroke any man's ego, they still held the same eyes.

Shisui and Itachi still had those intense eyes that were with a tint of darkness that threatened to consume anyone who dared to look into them. Eyes that always held that sharp, knowing look, eyes that looked almost feline, covered in lines of long, black lashes that Sakura felt almost envious of.

They looked too simple, too unnoticeable in those shabby robes they had on, their bodies not as firm, not as lean and their hair not as dark as she would've preferred, given the ravenous, almost blue tint it held most of the time.

If not for those eyes, she was sure she wouldn't spare them a second look, and that made Sakura realize that these two Uchihas were no simple men. No, they were men with high authority, individuals worthy of their name and the respect that they had earned through blood and sweat.

The men that were standing near her looked nothing like themselves, they lacked in every aspect compared to their original forms, and the only thought that formed at the tip of Sakura's tongue was a word - dull.

She almost felt unaccomplished standing near the two, intimidating Uchiha that were proclaimed as the prodigies of the decade not only by the Uchiha clan itself, but by the whole village as well.

She closed her eyes taking an inaudible sigh. She had no time for such thoughts. She was just grateful that this time she will have a chance to walk instead of running all day without a single break.

For the past few weeks her thoughts increasingly became messier and more complicated with each passing day. She had so many problems to deal with, but not enough answers, therefore her pool of questions just continued to increase steadily.

With each day she felt more vulnerable, be it her inexperience or just the way things went with Shisui, she didn't know, but what she did know was that Itachi's sudden interference was dangerous and his actions were unpredictable.

Her thoughts were a mess and it showed, because she was a mess herself.

Their walk felt slow even as they walked in a fast, steady pace, or maybe it was because Sakura's mind kept drifting around, nearly making her question her whole existence.

She hated the uncomfortable silence that settled between the three of them, but Sakura didn't know what to say, therefore she just proceeded walking down the beaten, dusty road.

The further they walked the gloomier the weather became, and Sakura found herself missing the bright blue sky that was part of the fire land that she held closely to her heart.

The trees stood motionless before their transgressions of this foreign, sun-less land that with each second was becoming more and more suffocating. She wondered if she imagined it.

Sakura decided that if she could describe the grey colour as a feeling or a place, this would probably be it.

Even the leaves that were now dancing and swirling into the wind were lacking in pigment. The more they walked the more they could see the meandering ranges of the sharp mountain's peaks, swaying along the line of the horizon, protecting and thus creating a natural barrier.

Time dragged slowly as they continued their walk. They trudged on through the crusty, dry mud in uncomfortable silence as sun travelled in its daily arc above the stormy clouds, barely peeking through the thickness of it.

"We'll stop soon, its nearly lunch time," Shisui suddenly said, his voice shattering the silence that had been stretching between them for hours and in all honesty, it was beginning to wear on Sakura's nerves a little.

She glanced at Itachi briefly, wondering what he was thinking and if he was mad at her or not, because he had no choice but to train her and she was in no mood to brush it off any longer.

She also noticed the slight tension between the two cousins and pondered what could've caused it.

"What is the deal with you two?" she said tersely, stopping in her tracks and refusing to go another step until one of them answered her question.

Both men stopped immediately, turning their heads to look at her after noticing her absence of footsteps. They were on an abandoned piece of muddy road in rogue territory under the guise of random civilians and that really wasn't a good situation to be in if they didn't want trouble or to attract uninvited attention.

"Do we really have to do this right now?" This time it was Itachi who spoke, his voice even, making it clear that he certainly didn't think that whatever it was that Sakura wanted to talk out was urgent enough to stop in the middle of an abandoned road.

"Yes, we do," Sakura answered truthfully, annoyed that he didn't think the conflict between them was all that important. "I'm sick of this tension."

"Sakura-san, now is not the time." She heard Shisui's adamant voice and nearly rolled her eyes, his eyes narrowed in return, his expression steely.

"Fine, whatever, at least I tried." She huffed, lacing her arms over chest in annoyance, clearly unhappy with the way things turned out in the end.

"Maybe… next time, Sakura-san." Itachi said genuinely, his tone, although stern was laced with a note of gentleness to it. She looked him in the eyes and nearly saw him smiling, his dark eyes crinkling slightly.

A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips.

"I will see to it then." Her own eyes crinkled ever so slightly under the gloomy weather. A short silence fell after that.

Shisui's eyebrow nearly twitched in irritation, however his face remained passive, the only indication he felt a certain way about the whole situation was the slightest tinge of tension in his lean muscles.

"Let's find a safe place to eat." Shisui said after a few moments had passed in silence, his tone calm, but full of displeasure.

His team members nodded in agreement.

They sat in further silence, hard rock cold to the touch compared to their warm bodies.

Sakura munched on yet another tasteless protein bar, but at this point she would rather have this, than no food at all, therefore, she took careful, small bites, teeth sinking into the hard texture unwillingly.

She glanced curiously at the two men, both of them were also eating their own protein bars, the only sound that surrounded all of them was the soft rustle of trees caused by a whirlpool of wind.

Sakura couldn't wait to get back home.

She looked at Itachi, her gaze subtle and careful as if trying to avoid any further suspicion.

She was not ready for tonight, she still had barely any idea what she was doing, but her time was running out quickly.

She had to prove herself today no matter what. Sakura wanted to slap herself in the face.

Itachi told her what she had to do, but she felt like she didn't have what it takes to seduce a man of his calibre successfully. More than so, make a man like him willingly sleep with her.

Sakura would've preferred to have Shisui instructing her to the art of seduction, but she understood his reasoning. All she could do was cooperate with Itachi and make his work easier, she knew her inexperience showed, but what she didn't like as well was the way he made her feel.

It was different.

He pressed all the right buttons, igniting the uncontrollable flames within her body, making her crave for something she couldn't have.

She felt so over it and at the same time she needed more.

This feeling made her feel frustrated to say the least, it was like he was using sweet torture that slowly turned into sweet denial.

Having a man like this, how was she supposed to make him feel the same way? How was she supposed to ignite the same flames? How was she supposed to make him crave her just as much as she craved him?

She itched and yearned for the release that would never come, because it was a part of Itachi's dangerous and thick scheme, a tactic of always teasing but never giving it all.

Questions like these slowly turned into Sakura's everyday routine and into her personal daily torture.

It didn't help that her lust fogged thoughts had a mind of their own. Instead of focusing on what Itachi was teaching her she was enjoying it instead, what a foolish girl.

She was completely entranced by these two, utterly gorgeous men that more than likely had no real business with her, besides the things they were doing right now for the sake of this mission.

Her thoughts were disrupted by the electric bolts of the occasional lightning blitzing and grazing the velvet stormy clouds that promised a heavy pour later.

She frowned, showing the last piece of the protein bar into her mouth, swallowing it dryly.

"Let's go." She heard Shisui's voice as she stood up from the cold, uneven rock, rubbing her clothes clean from any of the dust or soil that might've lingered.

They returned to the abandoned road again. The hours on the lonely road passed slowly and Sakura could only wonder how lucky they've been up until now to avoid the heavy storm that still threatened them. Heavy, dark clouds hung above their heads as they continued their trek.

With each step her nervousness only increased, because each step she took meant that the end of the day was undeniably coming.

Her performance tonight had to be perfect.

Tonight, Sakura must become the virtuoso of seduction, for that her prey is Uchiha Itachi himself.

"We'll stop at the next inn we see," Shisui said suddenly, disrupting the silence that was settled between the three of them once again.

It was only a few hours later when they found themselves at yet another, unfamiliar small town.

They reached the crest of another gently sloping hill to discover a town in the distance, made hazy by the newly found, actively falling rain. It looked larger than the last they had stayed at and Sakura could only hope that there was a place for them to stay the night.

The flat landscape made it difficult to judge just how far away the town was without any landmarks to measure against. They had been walking for some time and the town was only gradually getting closer, but they would be there soon, and it wasn't so late that they were in danger of arriving when everything was closed, at least that's what Sakura hoped for.

The town they arrived at was nothing like the quaint little settlement from the night before. This place seemed darker, sinister even, and the people they passed on the dimly lit streets hurried along as if they had somewhere to be, casting sidelong glances at the three of them.

As they reached the edge of the town at last, Sakura's hair glimmering with different hues of orange underneath the lanterns that decorated the small-town street, Sakura wondered if perhaps she could make this awkward partnership between the three of them work. After all, they had an important mission, one that could cost them their lives.

Sakura briefly speculated the reason as to why they always chose to stay at the inns instead of sleeping outside, but then she felt as if she was hit with a bolt of lightning as sudden realisation hit her utterly and completely.

It was a simple reason, really. Sakura was just blind enough to not see through the real reason.

They stayed at the inns because it was unrealistic to expect Sakura to perform her role as a seductress successfully if she was somewhere in the middle of the forest practicing under the scrutinizing gazes of both Itachi and Shisui.

And although, the thought itself sounded weird, lewd and immoral even, somehow Sakura found herself slightly aroused by the idea, as she felt a sudden wave of heat washing along her spine.

She shook her head lightly, trying to get rid of the impure thoughts that invaded her head.

The inn was as dark and grimy as the rest of the place and the woman behind the desk looked like she had seen a thing or two in her life. Sakura wasn't surprised at all as this was rogue territory after all and people here viewed government and order as more of an option than a necessity

"Here," the older woman rasped roughly, her voice low and gravelly as she tossed Sakura a tarnished key after having paid for the room in advance. "It's the second floor, last door on the right."

Sakura mutely nodded in thanks to the older woman moving further away from the Uchihas.

"There's only one room left." She heard the old woman rasping again, rather loudly and her eyes widened briefly as her heartbeat quickened and she swallowed unknowingly.

"That's fine, my brother and I can share." Said Shisui, his voice rather optimistic.

She turned around again, focused on the sole intention of getting away from the whole scene as soon as possible, but a hand on her shoulder stopped her, stilling her in place completely.

Sakura couldn't help but interpret the meaning of Shisui's words, her indecent earlier thoughts about the Uchiha cousins returning in full motion, staining the high of her cheekbones with a tint of red.

"I will come to your room later, be prepared." She heard Itachi's soft timbre reverberating through her whole body, his hot breath ghosting against the shell of her ear as she swallowed once again, completely overtaken by her nervousness.

"Hai." She licked her lips, wetting them, before she bit into the soft, supple flesh almost aggressively, willing herself to calm down.

"Good." His breath fell over a small piece of skin on her exposed neck one last time before disappearing completely, leaving only a dozen of shivers behind.

She released a heavy sigh of relief.

However not too long after, she felt another figure approaching, radiating with strong and independent aura, making her realize instantly just who it was.

He didn't stop to confront her, no he just walked past her, without sparing her a single glance, his demeanor cold and stony and she found herself clutching the rough fabric of her kimono tightly, her teeth sinking into her bottom lip harder, nearly drawing blood, her eyes narrowing straight onto the ground.

Why did it turn out like this?

She ran a hand through her short brown hair, almost gasping at the foreign sensation before she recalled the fact that she was still under the guise.

She followed the stairs to the second floor soon after.

Upon entering the room, Sakura unshouldered her pack, tossing it directly onto the neatly made bed.

She formed a quick seal with her hand, returning to her original form with a single puff of smoke.

Long hair fell in waves around her shoulders and back, making her head almost heavy as she unconsciously touched a few strands with her fingers, tugging at the softness of her tresses lightly, caressing it in between her fingers.

She pondered around the room, thinking intently about her outfit as well as her strategy. She only had one chance and it was due today.

Another sigh spilled into the dark room, leaden and weary. She stood at the center of it, submerged in complete and utter silence as her eyes scanned the shadows that lingered around the confined space, their abstract figures moved slowly, back and forth.

Not too long after an idea was born; and she smiled wickedly, she might've figured him out.

Uchiha Itachi was in for a show of his lifetime.

What are you willing to lose?

You cover your wounds, but underneath them

A soft knock on the door brought her back to life, as she crossed her legs in apprehension.

It was now or never.

"Come in." Her voice was barely loud enough to be heard outside of the room, but it was more than enough for him.

He didn't wait, entering just seconds later with a soft click behind him and as he was about to move closer, she spoke again.

"Stop." Her words worked like magic, reverberating through the whole room, stopping him instantly, her very own voice sharper than a hot knife, making his eyes widen slightly.

A tinge of surprise that was barely there, but it was still there nonetheless, and that was all she needed.

A reaction.

"Stay still." She instructed him, leaving no room to argue, her voice albeit calm was strict and commanding.

His expression hardened, the last bit of surprise he still might've held in his eyes now gone, absorbed by the darkness that surrounded him.

He stood still, leaning against the wooden door, his eyes now full of anticipation as he crossed his arms, lacing them around his hard, chiseled chest with precision.

She licked her lips.

A million voices in your head that whisper, "Stop, now"
Another twist of the knife, turn of the screws

She sat still, long legs overlaying one another, the blackness of her outfit clinging effortlessly to her curves, long hair smoothing down her back and shoulders like a veil, glimmering with tinges of silver against the pink, threatening to absorb the darkness itself.

Sakura was pure and young, untainted and untouched like the first snow blanket and equally fragile and inexperienced.

That was no more.

Today she was the epitome of evanescent in grace and forms and beautiful in soul and features - the most tempting prize, one that a lot of men could only wish for.

Emerald eyes followed the velvet contours of his lean body, meeting his obsidian gaze.

Only a blind man would dare not see the glow of her skin, the waterfalls that was her hair, the eyes that spoke with lust and want.

Itachi observed her silently, his gaze almost too observing, roaming through her features, skimming through her fully clothed body shamelessly.

And the worst part of it was that she knew it.

The woman in front of him was confident in her allure, that much he could tell.

She cocked her head to the side, long hair riding down alongside the curve of her small shoulder.

He saw a coy smile, a slant of her emerald green eyes that were full of provocation, hidden underneath the thick, black lashes and most importantly, there was a silent invitation between her crossed thighs.

Itachi's skin tingled lightly, a sensation caused primarily by her body language.

A good start.

It's all in your mind and it's fighting you
Arm yourself, a storm is coming

She was displaying progress, one that would have exceeded his expectations be it any other person, but he didn't expect any less from her, he didn't expect less from a woman who mastered the hardest parts of medical ninjutsu, a woman with chakra control that was considered perfect amongst the whole fire country.

Her luscious hair fluttered like a silk veil, working like a charm, making him follow her subtle movements, drawing his attention directly to her chest area, which was although fully clothed, still revealed a generous cleft as well as outlined her breasts.

His mouth went nearly dry when the swell of her breasts bounced with the unexpected motion as she shifted in her seat, slowly bending her waist with a flutter of lashes, her teeth sinking into her bottom lip as she spared him with her attention fully.

She looked at him with a hint of sultriness that was splayed across her plump lips, with temptation that came with her smirk.

"Say Itachi-san," she purred his name out, her voice almost intoxicating. "What kind of woman would you like to fuck tonight?" She carefully rested her chin against a hand, a fingertip slipping between white teeth, past her glossy lips with ease. Her demeanor deadly and playful at the same time.

Something akin to want briefly flickered through the darkness of his eyes as he narrowed slightly, following her subtle movements with expert precision.

He swallowed, nearly caught off guard by her choice of words. What he truly didn't expect, was for Sakura to use this kind of language against him.

The woman in front of him was ethereal, not only in her looks but in her aura as well.

His mind was untrained in how he should process further. This woman was unlike anything else, even when compared to his natural skill, one that relied heavily on his deadly techniques and the sharpness of his katana. However, something at the back of his inner self instructed Itachi to not rely on logic this time.

In the presence of this woman logic simply ceased to coexist.

"Come here." He rasped, his own voice commanding, daring her to come closer.

Well, what you gonna do now?
It's your reflection looking back to pull you down

She looked at him, her own gaze daring, provocative, glistening in the dark, almost fogged. She rose from her seat, her movements feline and graceful, flexible and effortless as she approached him with the sway of her hips, long legs nearly rubbing against one another, arms laced behind her back, hidden behind a curtain of pink.

She slightly bent over, just a mere few inches away from his slender, lean form.

He looked at her expectantly, the darkness of his gaze piercing, moving down her face slowly.

Every delineation of her siren form took an elegant rise and fall as she was beyond picturesque, a woman wrapped by the embrace of the darkness itself; Itachi let his unhurried gaze travel from the flute of her swan neck, to the fine bones of her shoulders and collarbone that took a sudden amplitude around her chest.

A subtle hint of cleavage, almost peeking through the conservative anbu outfit she had chosen, an image that was almost enough to make him crazy.

An image that nearly made him activate his Sharingan.

She used one of her arms, one swift motion and she was already stroking his chest, feeling the muscles underneath delicately.

She licked her lips, spreading the glossiness of them around and even further.

"So…" she continuously started at him, eternal green glimmering in the darkness, almost burning, consumed by the vibrant green flames.

"I will ask again." Her hand moved up, reaching his shoulder and grabbing it lightly, her touch feathery and teasing. "What kind of woman would you like to fuck?" her hand fell off his shoulder, her touch gone in an instant.

She spun around; her movement graceful as she pressed her ripe, tightly clothed bottom onto his crotch, her lithe body splayed all over his chest, arched like a violin, pushing on all the right buttons, her gaze the epitome of seductress as she spared him a sultry glance over her shoulder, loose strands of hair framing her expression.

He inhaled sharply at the suddenness of her moves, his eyes closing briefly at the sweet impact, as he willed himself to remain calm.

"Or would you like to fuck me?" she purred, her voice low and alluring as she tossed her head onto his shoulder, in between his neck and jaw, hair spilling and tangling all over and around their bodies, her hot, moist lips nearly touching, nearly brushing over the edge of his jawline, her hot breaths tingling his skin even further.

She rubbed her ass shamelessly against him, feeling the soft bulge increasing rapidly.

"You want me to fuck you – and it showed." He rasped against the swell of her cheek, his own breath tingling her heated skin as well, as she fought the urge to gasp.

"Therefore, I will keep my promise." She felt his strong arm wrapping around her waist tightly, holding her close, closer than ever before.

A small smirk curled at the edge of her lips.

She won.

So, are you gonna die today or make it out alive?
You gotta conquer the monster in your head and then you'll fly

Fly, phoenix, fly
It's time for a new empire

Got them in the palm of your hand, you're playing God now
What you gonna do now?
