The Watchtower, to Strength's surprise, turned out to be an orbital space station. After being taken there in a sleek and deadly looking spacecraft and eventually calming down Mato enough that Rock had stopped trying to attack Superman, she was shown to a cell and told someone would collect her soon.

Strength let out a long breath and leant against a wall before sliding to the floor.

"What a day." She muttered.

I'm worried about Mato. Yuu said.

Me too, you want out? Strength asked.

Please.

A moment later, Yuu was sitting on the floor as Strength's hands quickly dissolved into nothingness.

"Well, at least we're relatively safe for the time being." Yuu said looking at the ceiling. "But what do you think is going to happen to us?"

I don't know. Strength said. But you saw Superman, wasn't even bothered by us. I don't think we've got much say with what comes next.

"Yeah and I'm guessing they've got special places for people like us." Yuu sighed, she looked around the sparse room and at the cold white tiles.

"Even the jails here are bigger than my apartment was." She complained.

Rock was lying on a bed in the Watchtower's medical ward, she had her eyes closed as she attempted to guide Mato through the meditation routine that Raven had taught her.

It's not working, this is useless. Mato cried.

You need to focus on nothing but my breathing.

I can't, it hurts so much.

I know, I am sorry but you need to focus. You are getting our memories mixed up, do you remember being imprisoned in Azkaban?

Yes. Mato replied fearfully.

Do you also remember graduating university?

Y-yes.

How long ago was that? Rock asked calmly.

Thirteen years ago.

And when were you imprisoned?

Eight… Teen… How is that possible? How could I forget?

Slade tortured us. Rock replied.

And forced you to fight for him. Mato continued. My god I'm so stupid!

You are not stupid, that you have realised what happened so quickly is remarkable.

But I keep causing problems, it's my fault the world broke, it's my fault I got captured, it's my fault I started the fight with Superman. I can't do anything right.

Mato, that is not true. But if you are determined to find someone to blame then it is Voldemort. Rock said.

What does he have to do with this? Mato asked.

Think back, why are we in this world?

Because the tear shattered.

Why? Rock asked.

I don't know! Mato cried.

It is okay. Rock soothed. Reality was broken because the energy from my cannon and that wizard's spell ripped it apart.

Okay.

You were having a flashback, I reacted in response to the influx of emotion. Rock explained. And the wizard acted as part of his training.

Okay. Mato said again.

Your flashback was triggered by mention of the woman who kidnapped you, on orders from Voldemort who somehow knew about the Otherselves existence and knew what I was.

But how could he know about you? Mato asked.

I do not know, Harry Potter said something about his soul travelling across different worlds while in limbo. Rock said slowly. But I was sent to your world to stop Voldemort.

Okay, getting there. Mato said, confirming she was still following the conversation.

Voldemort was in limbo after he was killed while attacking Harry Potter, at the end of the Wizarding War. A war that he started.

Right.

Voldemort chose to start that war Mato, now imagine what would have changed if he decided to find another way.

Mato was silent for a long moment.

He wouldn't have started the war and died. Mato said finally. If he didn't die he couldn't know about the Otherselves and know that they have human companions. I wouldn't have been kidnapped.

I would not have even had reason to cross over. Rock corrected. He would not be a threat to either of our worlds, the tear would not have existed and reality would be whole. We would not be here.

But we are and we're stuck. Mato sobbed.

Rock could only agree.

Yuu jumped in surprise when her cell door opened, she wasn't surprised when she saw Superman standing in the doorway however.

"Is it time for our trial?" Yuu asked.

"It's not a trial." Superman told her. "It's an assessment of the possible threat you pose."

"Sounds like a trial to me." Yuu responded, getting to her feet.

"I suppose." Superman conceded.

He's unsure. Strength said.

Yuu nodded to herself.

"You don't sound like you agree with this." She said.

He rubbed the back of his neck as he lead her through the Watchtower.

"It's not that I don't agree, but…" Superman hesitated. "You're just kids."

"Just kids?" Yuu repeated in disbelief. "You met Strength right? Short girl, looks like me, massive hands?"

"Yeah." Superman said, slightly confused.

"Well her world is one of constant fighting, death and killing is something that she has been living with all her life." Yuu said.

"Sounds awful." Superman said sympathetically.

"I chose to live there for a time, to escape the abuse I was going through. Because as horrible as it might sound, it was still better than the world I lived in." Yuu stated.

"Why are you telling me this?" Superman asked, stopping.

"Because while I may look like a teenager, it doesn't mean I've been through any less than you." Yuu snapped.

"Understood." Superman said, nodding.

He looked at her through the corner of his eye.

"You haven't asked about your friend." He said.

"Mato? She's safe inside Black Rock Shooter." Yuu said.

"What do you mean safe inside." Superman asked.

Yuu groaned.

"Can it wait until I can explain it to everyone? I think this'll be the fourth time I've had to explain what we are." She asked.

"Fair enough." Superman replied.

They soon came to a large room with floor to ceiling windows looking out over Earth, brushed steel coated every surface and in the centre was a large semi-circular table with five people sat at it.

They looked over at her as she entered and Superman directed her where to stand and joined the others sitting down.

"So this is the girl who gave you so much trouble Kal-El?" Said a tall woman with long black hair wearing a golden tiara with a red star in the centre.

Kal-El? Yuu thought.

"She was different back then Diana, this girl is some aspect of her." Superman replied.

Kal-El is Superman. Strength said. Is that a name or some sort of title?

"What's the status on the other one?" Batman asked.

"Third-degree burns to eighty percent of her body." Said a bald, green skinned man wearing a blue cape with red straps across his bare chest. "Fourth degree burns to twelve percent."

"Jesus." Said a black man with glowing green eyes, wearing a black and green uniform. "How is she still alive?"

"Unknown, her physiology is completely different to anything else I've seen." The green man said. "All I can say is she is definitely not human."

"Perhaps our guest can explain more?" Superman, or Kal-El said. Yuu was getting a little confused.

"Alright." Yuu said clearing her throat, feeling a little intimidated. "How much do any of you know already? I know Batman was monitoring the Titans computer."

All eyes turned to Batman.

"She is an Otherself, a mental construct from a parallel universe designed to ease the emotional burdens of the inhabitants of an alternate Earth." Batman said, quoting Robin's report from memory.

"It sounds so cold when you describe them like that." Yuu said sadly.

"Was it wrong?" The woman called Diana said.

"Not if you think of them just as objects, the truth is much more complicated." Yuu said.

"Then explain it to us." The green man said, leaning forwards.

"An Otherself is the physical manifestation of the negative emotions that their human companions experience." Yuu said.

"How is that any different to what Batman said?" Diana asked.

"Because the Otherselves do it out of love, they may be created, not born, but it's their love of their companions that allows them to do what they do." Yuu said.

"Which is?" The black man asked.

"Kill." Yuu said grimly. "They take the dark, suppressed emotions that everyone feels, fear, anger, hate, loss, guilt and fight amongst themselves. When one is killed, the emotions they are harbouring are gone and the human companion is freed."

"Physical manifestations of negative emotions." The black man said, frowning. "Sounds a lot like the Sinestro Corps."

"I agree." Diana said. "They are a great evil."

"No no no no no." Yuu cried, raising her hands. "They aren't evil, they take and contain negative emotions but they aren't guided by them."

"But you just said the kill each other." Diana said.

"They're manifestations, constructs. They only die temporarily, as soon as the companion needs them again they come back." Yuu tried to explain.

"And what do the humans of your world think of this?" Diana asked.

"Well, except for a few of us, humanity had no idea they even existed." Yuu told her.

"So your world had no idea this was happening?" Superman asked.

"No." Yuu confirmed.

"And yet the Otherselves did this anyway? Out of love?" Superman continued.

"That's right." Yuu said nodding

"Why?" Batman growled.

"Because that's what they do, they are fully sapient beings, as diverse and complicated as humanity. Each with their own personalities and each one cares for their companion completely and totally." Yuu said, fire burning through her veins as her passion rose.

"They do this fully knowing that their efforts are ignored and their companions are oblivious to their very existence."

Easy Yuu. Strength whispered gently.

Yuu let out a breath and unclenched a fist she didn't realise she was holding.

"So why does Robin consider you two to be so extraordinarily dangerous?" Batman asked.

Shit. Strength muttered.

"Because they can be." Yuu said with a shrug.

The Justice League looked at each other with concern.

"Explain." Diana demanded.

Yuu looked at Superman.

"You faced Strength and Black Rock Shooter." She said. "What did you think?"

"Tough." Superman admitted. "And tenacious."

Yuu nodded.

"You were the first opponent that they couldn't defeat, they can withstand massive amounts of injury, they are essentially comprised of pure willpower." She said.

Superman's and Diana's eyes quickly flicked over to look at the black man with the glowing green eyes.

"There is nothing they wouldn't do in order to protect the ones they love." Yuu said proudly.

"So earlier? When your friend attacked me." Superman started.

"She did that to protect her companion, I cannot tell you exactly why without talking to Mato first but that won't be for a few days at least." Yuu explained.

"That still doesn't account for the fact your friend killed Deathstroke and you stood by and watched." Batman scowled.

"Who?" Yuu asked with confusion.

"Slade Wilson." Batman clarified.

"Oh, him." Yuu frowned. "Strength? A little help?"

Yuu stood still for a few moments mumbling to herself.

"What is she doing? Batman whispered.

"She's talking to herself." Superman said, leaning over.

"Okay." Yuu said, clearing her throat again. "Black Rock Shooter killed Slade in retaliation for torturing Mato and to prevent any future danger from him to her."

"That's not a reason." Batman said, raising his voice slightly.

"He brought it on himself." Yuu argued. "If he hadn't tortured them then Black Rock Shooter wouldn't have killed him, she wouldn't have considered him such a threat."

"It was revenge?" Diana asked.

"Not exactly, more like she took it personally." Yuu said.

"So why didn't you intervene?" The green man asked.

"Because it wasn't Strength's fight." Yuu stated.

Batman shook his head.

"Hawkgirl." The green man said, looking over at the last member at the table. "You've been unusually quiet."

A red haired woman wearing a bird-like mask and a large pair of wings coming out of her back leaned forwards.

"I'm not sure if I would've acted differently." She said. "Maybe not as far as killing him but if it was the one I love, then who knows?"

"You always did have a temper." The black man said.

"Shut up John." Hawkgirl sighed.

So that's Hawkgirl and he's John, finally putting names to faces. Yuu thought.

At some invisible signal, Superman stood up and walked over to Yuu, he towered over her small frame and looked down.

"Let's take you back, seems like we've got some discussing to do." He said.

"You do this a lot?" Yuu asked.

"What?" Superman asked.

"Hold trials?" Yuu asked.

"No, never." Superman said. "You're actually the first outsiders to set foot in the Watchtower."

"What? Why?" Yuu asked, slightly stunned. "What makes us so special?"

"I don't know, but Batman seems to think you're a real danger." Superman replied.

"But we're not." Yuu said. "Or yes, the Otherselves can be, but only to the wrong people." She said quickly correcting herself. "Surely we can't be that much of a problem, you're invulnerable, or close to it. And we're not even close to some of the things the Titan's have dealt with."

Superman raised an eyebrow.

"So why us?" Yuu asked again.

"Personally speaking." Superman said, slowing down. "I think it's because of your friend."

"Mato? Or Black Rock Shooter? Or do you mean Strength?" Yuu asked.

"Whoever is lying on a bed in the infirmary." Superman replied.

"Black Rock Shooter." Yuu nodded.

"Yeah, her." Superman said, looking away. "We've never encountered anything like her, a girl who can survive so much and still fight. I've lost track of the amount of people who were bulletproof, or can fly, or have abilities like mine."

"But she's different?" Yuu asked.

"I looked into her eyes after the explosion, there was nothing there but determination. Pure, unfiltered, determination. She stood there, ready to fight as if her wounds were nothing." Superman said. "Even though she could barely stand."

Yuu chuckled a little.

"Yeah she's stubborn." Then she sighed. "It's been a busy few months, losing our home, becoming heroes and then becoming criminals."

They stopped outside of Yuu's cell.

"You lost your home?" Superman asked.

"Yes? No? Maybe?" Yuu said. "There was a hole in the fabric of reality, created by some evil wizard and it couldn't be sealed. It linked our world to the Otherworld, anyway, last thing I remember was Mato and I were to escort some scientists through the Otherworld with the help of Strength and Black Rock Shooter, our Otherselves. Some shit happened and reality shattered.

"We fell through the cracks into the void, every possible universe laid out like twinkling stars. Somewhere along the line we merged with our Otherselves, they're now part of us which is why we can change at will."

"What happened to your own world?" Superman asked.

"I don't know, It could have simply merged with the Otherworld and we got unlucky, or it was completely wiped out, not just the planet but the entire universe." Yuu said sadly.

Superman placed a large muscular hand on Yuu's shoulder.

"I'm sorry, I lost my own world too. I know how you feel" Superman said gently.

"If only we knew what happened, but we fell." Yuu said with a slightly trembling voice. "We fell out of time, it was forever and it was seconds. It's hard to explain."

She took a deep breath.

"But we're here now, trapped in this world, we joined the Titans to help people while Robin looked for a way to send us home." Yuu looked up at Superman tearfully.

"I'm sorry." She sniffed. "I didn't mean to blurt everything out like that."

Superman opened the door.

"C'mon, in you go." He said, gently guiding her in.

"I noticed that Diana called you Kal-El." Yuu said, turning around to face him.

Superman nodded.

"That's my name." He said before adding. "My Kryptonian name anyway but my human name, which I prefer, given to me by my parents is Clark Kent."

Yuu smiled.

"It's nice to meet you Clark Kent, my name is Yuu, Yuu Koutari."

Superman smiled back as the door slammed shut.

Flirt. Strength giggled.

"Shut up." Yuu moaned. "He was nice, and it felt good to get that stuff off my chest."
