Brycen Rosenthal - District 1 Male - Age 18
On the third day of the Games, Brycen woke up to a loud beeping noise. He examined the tent, as he was the last person to wake up, and eventually felt a buzz on his left wrist. He looked over to see that the tracking bracelet that had been placed on everybody before they entered the arena was what was producing the noises and vibrations so he tapped it when suddenly a projection of Head Gamemaker Snow appeared.
"Good morning tributes!" He announced, clearly trying to make his voice seem lower and more intimidating than it actually was, "Welcome to your third day in the arena!"
Brycen sighed. What could he possibly be up to? Was he unleashing mutts already, or was he simply just being cordial and giving them a friendly greeting. Either way, Brycen was almost nervous, but mainly excited and intrigued for what the announcement could possibly be.
"As you know, you are all here because you were voted in by your Districts," Brycen rolled his eyes as Mr. Snow continued, "But, the voting isn't over yet," Huh? "As you may have noticed, the weather has been relatively the same over the past few days. Well it is time to change that!"
How did that have anything to do with voting?
"There are a myriad of different weather options for you to choose from on your tracking bracelets," He continued, "You all have ten minutes to vote on what the weather for the day will be, and whatever the weather type gets the most votes, will be today's climate," Well that certainly is interesting, Brycen pondered, "This voting will occur every morning for the remainder of the games!"
Mr. Snow paused before delivering what was possibly the worst joke of all time, "May the odds be weather in your favor!" He laughed as his projection disappeared.
Well then! Hopefully the careers would be able to come to some sort of a consensus on the weather for the day, but Brycen was doubtful, especially since Sapphira was starting to treat the games like a weird television show. It was annoying at times, but it definitely lightened the mood which was appreciated since Brycen expected the Games to last long considering the rate people were dying.
"Brycen!" Ammo peaked his head inside the tent, "Did you hear the news?"
"Obviously," Brycen rolled his eyes. As cute as Ammo was, he wasn't the sharpest knife in the Cornucopia at times, "We should figure this out."
Brycen got up and left the tent to see Sapphira, Hosanna, and Adira sitting in a circle whilst Ammo towered above him.
"Good morning Brycen!" Hosanna perked up as soon as she saw him, "You certainly slept well."
"We don't have time for pleasantries," Brycen scoffed, "We have to make a big decision. Does anybody have ideas?"
"I have an idea!" Sapphira stood up.
"Of course you do," Adira joked. It appeared she'd become more comfortable with the careers lately which was reassuring since she seemed nervous to kill the girl from 10.
"We should make it snow!" Sapphira twirled, "Like Christmas in July!"
"How would that benefit us?" Ammo sighed, "Shouldn't we do something such as sunlight so we don't freeze to death."
"Snow is not that cold Ammo, and we could make it into water! Plus it would be funny if everybody else struggled with the cold"
"I like the idea," Hosanna butted in, "And we can all vote for sun tomorrow. We don't even know if we'll win."
"Fine." Brycen groaned, "Let's all make it snow!"
They all tapped their bracelets and scrolled through the weather options until they found the one for snow and clicked it all at the same time. About four minutes later, a single snowflake fell from the sky:
"Oh my goodness!" Adira shrieked, "I just realized, I've never seen snow before!"
Brycen had never seen Adira project that loud but it was true that she'd probably never seen snow because of how warm it always was in 4 apparently.
"It snows in 1 all the time," Sapphira giggled as Adira stuck her tongue out and watched as a snowflake hit it, "Does it snow in 2?"
"Occasionally," Ammo said, Hosanna nodding in agreement, "I must admit, this is nice."
"Can we umm, build a snowman?" Adira stuttered, "I've always wanted to!"
"Sure," Sapphira said, gathering a clump of snow in her hand, "But first," She threw it at Brycen, "Snowball fight!"
"Hey!" Brycen gathered his own snow and threw it at her.
Soon, a full fledged snowball fight broke out, and even Brycen had to admit it was fun. For a moment, he forgot he was even in the Hunger Games, and for the first time in a long time, he genuinely smiled.
Coriolanus Snow - Head Gamemaker
"Well isn't that adorable?" Coriolanus sighed to himself as he watched the career pack throwing snowballs at each other and building snowmen while the other tributes shivered. Logan from 8 was building an igloo which was sort of cute. He'd honestly been thrilled that they'd selected snow, since last year's plan for a snow themed arena with yeti-like mutts went down the drain. He wanted to reuse them but Lysistrata and Clemensia had convinced him that the viewers were absolutely loving the wholesome nature of the snowplay so he decided to give the poor kids a break.
"Hey Coryo!" Coriolanus heard a female voice by the door. He knew it wasn't Clemensia or Lysistrata since they had gone to get lunch along with the other Assistant Gamemakers, which left him alone in the office.
"Livia?" He turned his head to see Livia Cardew, one of his old classmates, and the Escort for District 6. While they were originally close in school, eventually her gloating became tiresome. They'd spoken a bit since then, but were never particularly as close as they once were, and Coriolanus had even grown to dislike her in a sense, possibly because she was just as self-absorbed as he was.
"Are you busy?" She asked. Coriolanus had forgotten how shrill her voice was, and couldn't help but flinch a tad.
"Not particularly." Coriolanus mumbled, "Do you need anything?"
"We haven't talked in a while," Livia decided that she was invited into the room and took a seat at one of the chairs, "We should catch up!"
"What's really going on?" Coriolanus sat in the chair across from her, not buying that she simply wanted to only "catch up."
"These Games are a hit!" Livia exclaimed, "I've never seen the Capitolites more excited!"
"Is that so?" Coriolanus had little time to fraternize with the Capitolites during the Games, so he usually went off of Lysistrata, Clemensia and Tigris' word.
"Yeah!" Livia beamed, "Rumor has it, people think you're going to be Panem's next President."
Being the President had always been Coriolanus' dream, but despite his growing popularity, it was still but a wild fantasy, as he always assumed President Ravenstill would pass his reign onto his grandson Felix, or his parents. Though, rumor had it that the next generations of Ravenstills had no interest in the presidency. Since Ravenstill was the first of Panem's presidents, they had never needed to appoint a new one, but he was growing older.
"Do they really say that?" He asked, "How would they even pass on the Presidency?"
"Honestly," Livia sighed, "Everyone I've spoken to has just assumed it's going to be you!"
That was the sort of news Coriolanus loved to hear, still he didn't know why Livia had decided to show her face, "What does that have to do with you?"
"You'll need a First Lady," She gulped, "If you want people to take you seriously when your president."
"Are you suggesting I marry you?" Coriolanus had thought about marrying her in the past, but he honestly saw marriage as a political tool, and one that had not been necessary until now.
"You'd have to ask me first." Livia winked.
"Would you like to marry me?" Coriolanus rolled his eyes, already over the situation, even though it made so much sense.
"Ask me better!" Livia pouted.
"Fine." Coriolanus took a piece of paper from his desk and rolled it into a ring. He grabbed tape and sealed it, then went on the ground and kneeled, "Livia Cardew, will you marry me?"
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Livia yelled, "I'm about to be the First Lady of Panem but I'm being proposed to with a ring made of a paper?"
"Should I just fucking have a ring with me right now?" Coriolanus retorted, "We just decided that we're getting married a few minutes ago!"
"You said you wanted to marry me before!"
"That was fifteen years ago!" Coriolanus sat back down, "And you know I'm not doing this because I love you or anything, right?"
"So you're on your way to be the President of our whole country and you're still strung up on a girl from District 12 who you kissed maybe twice fifteen years ago," Livia also took a seat.
"And what about it? Do you even want to love me or are you also trying to gain something?"
"I'd like to try loving you but you have to try a bit more." Livia batted her eyelashes
"Fine." Coriolanus sighed, "I'll propose to you properly later."
"Thank you, future husband!" Livia giggled then skipped out of the room.
They weren't even properly engaged and they were already arguing. What the hell had Coriolanus gotten himself into?
Louis Staker - District 11 Male - Age 18
It was the fourth day in the arena, and Louis was getting a tad stir crazy. It was a beautiful summer day, just as he had voted for. He'd really thought that he would have killed at least one person by now but alas he had not. Ryan must've been so bored at home watching the Games. Louis could tell he was eagerly awaiting his first kill.
"Brandon!" Louis yelled at his ally after their afternoon meal of salad, "I'm bored!"
"Well what do you want me to do about it?" He replied.
"Can we go hunting for someone?" Louis was beyond eager to get his hands dirty.
"That's going to get us killed," Brandon sighed, "We don't even have weapons."
"I can choke somebody!" Louis exclaimed.
"Then you can go by yourself," Brandon said, sitting down to help himself to more salad, "I hope you have fun."
Brandon was starting to become irritable. He never wanted any adventure or excitement, which upset Louis tremendously. What was the point of living without fun? Regardless of what Brandon though, Louis was thrilled as he wandered through the arena, hoping to find somebody to kill. The girl from 12 was still alive, and she seemed young and like an easy target, but at this point, Louis was prepared to kill the first person he found. He eventually got to the end of the forest section and into the metropolis, which would have been a beautiful place for sightseeing had it not been the arena. He stared at his reflection in the windows of the buildings, hoping he'd soon find a target. Maybe then Brandon would think he was a good ally, and somebody worth fighting alongside. In hindsight, what Louis was doing was fairly foolish, but he was just twitching for some action.
After about twenty minutes of wandering, Louis saw another Tribute. Actually, scratch that, three other tributes, a girl and two boys. How perfect! This would really show Ryan his true power. Louis tiptoed behind them, hoping to eventually attack from behind, when the girl turned around.
"Hey!" She said, putting up her fists, "What are you doing here?"
The two boys turned around as Louis punched the girl in the stomach, causing her to fall down. Louis went over to the girl to finish the job when one of the boys caught his wrist with his hand, "Don't attack our friend."
Louis slapped the boy in the face and watched as a single tooth fell out of his mouth. For a moment, Louis became encapsulated in the boys eyes, as they reminded him of Ryan almost, but he then regained focus and kept his eyes on the prize. It was definitely the most fun he had had so far. The boy who'd had his tooth knocked out pulled a knife from his pocket, "I don't want to do this."
Louis tried to grab the knife but the other boy did it first, "I've got you Luca."
He pointed the knife at Louis' eyes then slashed it down his throat, causing him to bleed all over the boy's shirt. Louis fell to the ground and watched as the boys picked up the girl who Louis had previously pushed. At least this was sort of adventurous, right?
Jacob "Pow" Powell - District 3 Male - Age 17
Pow and Luca held Summer's unconscious body over to the rooftop of their little museum area hideout, not saying anything and definitely not looking back at the boy who Pow had just killed. His shirt was bloody and definitely ruined, but the current concern was Summer's life.
"She's going to be okay, right?" Pow stuttered as he and Luca laid her on the ground.
"She has a heartbeat," Luca placed his hand on her chest, "We may have to wait a bit but it seems she'll be fine."
With Summer's safety nearly guaranteed, Pow had time to think about what he had done. He never thought he'd be capable of killing somebody, especially when Luca could have easily done it.
"Why didn't you kill him?" Pow asked Luca, "You were in the perfect position."
"Well for one, my jaw hurt like hell since I had just had a tooth knocked out of me." He laughed, "But also, I just pictured his whole life."
"What do you mean?"
"We don't know that guy, but he definitely had an entire life and something back home he was fighting for." Luca looked visibly upset at that point, "I just couldn't do it myself."
"I feel bad too," Pow sighed, "But I didn't want him to kill either of us."
They stared at Summer's body, hoping she'd wake up soon since the two of them really didn't have much to talk about. Pow went to relieve himself, which meant pissing off of the roof since there was no bathroom in the arena, and when he returned, he saw Summer slowly blinking.
"What's happening?" Pow asked, "Is she waking up."
"I think so," Luca whispered, "Let's give her some space."
"Hiyah!" Summer sprung up and looked around. The poor girl was so clearly confused , "Wait, where is that guy who punched me?"
"Summer!" Luca hugged her, "I'm so glad you're alive!"
The boys took turns explaining what had happened.
"I got so nervous!" Luca exclaimed, "And then I lost a tooth," He peeled back his lip to reveal a gap where one of his front teeth had been, "So Pow took my knife and killed him!"
"So that's why your shirt is so red!" Summer laughed, pointing to the large red splotch on Pow's shirt.
"It's gross, I know." Pow nodded, "But it's not like I can be naked."
Suddenly propeller noises became audible which meant only one thing, a gift. A small drone on a parachute landed in Pow's hand, unhooked a small wrapped package, and flew off again.
"Is it from Micah?" Luca exclaimed.
He'd received a few gifts from the previous year's Victor. Some were practical such as sleeping bags, and others were stupid things such as flowers. Luca was someone obsessed with him, as apparently they had some "amazing emotional connection" the night before the Games, which Pow couldn't help but be jealous of. All Pow had was his rough experience with Pascal, which was borderline traumatizing, and he hadn't even received any gifts from him, but maybe this new package would change that. Pow looked at the note on the gift.
I see you've been bloodied, pretty boy.
What a shame!
Good thing I'm true to my promises.
Put this on and think of me.
Kisses, Pascal
"That's kind of gross," Summer said after Pow read the note, "What is it?"
Pow tore open the wrapping to reveal what looked like some sort of a sexy maid dress.
"What the fuck is this?" Luca laughed.
"I'm not wearing it!" Pow declared, absolutely disgusted.
"Hold on!" Summer grabbed the dress and took the knife which was laying on the ground. She dug it through the top of the costume until it was in two pieces, "Now we have a blanket," She set aside the bottom portion, "And a weird frilly shirt for you, that's well, still a shirt!"
"I hate this a bit less," Pow sighed as he took off his old shirt and put on the new one, "Emphasis on just a bit."
Who knew outfits would be one of the more humiliating things in the arena?
Alrighty! That chapter was certainly a lot but I hope you all enjoyed it. Also, remember to vote on the poll!
