A/N (just me rambling about the show): I wasn't going to post another Spark chap right now because I'm working on my other fic (Sex or Love from Gilmore Girls universe) but after watching this week's episode I just had to write it. I'm so glad for Felciity and her character in this last episode! I haven't liked Oliver's character since season 2; I even stopped watching Arrow midseason 3 because I just couldn't stand him anymore and Felicity had become such a submissive and sprkless character somewhere in that season. But thankfully she is back with all her wit and life and spark in this season.
I totally get the Olicity thing - I was an Olicity fan until season 2 - but Oliver's choices have been getting worse and worse. And now that he chose to work with Malcon after that villain made Thea become a killer... I completely agree with Felicity and I'm proud she told him she doesn't want to be a woman he loves. I would completely understand - and maybe I wish it - if she chose to stop working with Team Arrow and started dedicating her time to help Atom. Right now, he seems to be a better hero. In theory both Arrow and Ray have the same goal to help the city and protect the people he cares about, but it seems to me that Ray has a better sense of honor and so far he hasn't compromised his integrity and values because it's easier. Besides, he is a lot more open with Felicity and their conversations are so funny!
Chap 12
Felicity sat in front of her computers waiting for the team to arrive at the mansion Slade was usisng as his base of operation. She had followed the money and found out that Slade had bought a mansion in the outskirts of the city about a year ago and after some more research she was sure that's where he was staying. Now the team was in route to attack the place and end this war before Slade made his big move.
"Felicity?" Oliver called through the coms.
"I'm here," she answered quickly.
"We are all in 's the status?"
"Okay. I confirmed there is only one entrance in the front of the mansion. I can count about a dozen body heats, half inside the mansion and half around it."
"Dig and Roy, you take care of the guards outside. I can see only two in the front entrance, the others are probably making rounds and are going to come once they notice there is trouble. Sara and I will go in; we'll take care of the guards inside and go after Slade. Let's go."
The team moved as one, Dig and Roy going first to fight the guards while Oliver and Sara walked right by them and into the mansion. Felicity could listen to the men she considered her little and big brother fighting the guards. It sounded like they were all matched in strenght and skill but in a few minutes both guards were incapacitated. She listened to Oliver and Sara put the guards inside the mansion to sleep with a lot more ease as the same time new guards attacked Dig and Roy.
"We're heading to the second floor. There were only the guards in the first floor," Oliver told the rest of the team.
As soon as Oliver was finished talking it was possible to hear the sound of metal heating metal and Felicity could only imagine they had started a sword fight. She wasn't where Oliver had gotten a sword but she imagined the mansion was full of weapons.
Her cell phone beeped and she quickly read the text from Bruce: "You sure you don't want help?"
She smiled at his offer and obvious worry but answered, "Thanks but this is team Arrow's fight. I'll call when it's over."
She continued to hear the fights going on between her team and Slade's not knowing what was happening.
"So your other blond girl found out about the mansion," Slade said while obviously attacking Oliver. "This isn't exactly how I had planned for you to die but it doesn't matter. I'll kill you and Sara tonight and then I'll destroy your city and there is nothing you can do. It's a pity you won't be there to see your other blond die at my hands. It won't be quick either, there is no reason to after all you'll be gone and there will be no one to protect her. She will suffer for days, maybe weeks, before I put her out of her misery."
"That's not gonna happen," Oliver groaned and Felciity could hear the anger in his voice. "You're right about one thing, this ends tonight but with you going to an ARGUS prison for the rest of your life."
"Tell yourself whatever you need to believe but we both know you don't have the strenght."
Suddenly Felicity heard a few arrows being shot and Slade's screams of pain and demanding to be released.
"You're done Slade; you're going back to the prison in Lian Yu."
Before Salde could reply the team heard Oliver screaming, "Sara, no!" But it was obviously too late because they could all hear the sound of Slade's scream.
"We had him! You didn't have to behead him!" Oliver shouted at Sara as the rest of the team listened through the coms but remained quiet. Sara didn't say a word and Oliver sighed, "Dig and Roy, are you done with the guards outside?"
"Yeah, they are all passed out," Dig answered.
"Okay. Let's go back to the lair, there is nothing else for us to do here."
And during the entire trip back no one said a word.
Once the team arrived at the lair Felicity was walking towards them, "What happened? I though everything was going as we planned."
"It was," Oliver started. "I had shot Slade on the shoudler and then with the arrow you designed to tie him against a pillar. I was about to call ARGUS when Sara..."
Sara rolled her eyes and answered in a raged tone, "Stop being naive, Oliver. You know Slade wouldn't have stayed in any prison for too long and he would never give up on destroying us. You may think it's okay to put you family in risk but I won't do that to mine over a lunatic like Slade."
Dig cleared his throat to call everyone's attention, "We had a plan; we had decided-"
"You guys voted o keep him alive," Sara interupted. "I didn't agree. You all had a plan; I had a different one."
"Look," Roy stepped forward, "I didn't sign up to become a killer. I know Oliver used to kill people when he started as a vigilante but I thought it was in the past. If we're going to start killing people then I'm out."
"Me too," Felicity agreed. "When I started working with you two," Felicity pointed to Oliver and Dig, "I told you I wouldn't help you guys unless there would be no more killing."
"You all don't see the big picture," Sara told them loudly. "You don't know what Slade was capable of. If I didn't kill him we would all have to live the rest of our lives looking over our shoulders. He would have tried to destroy the city and he would have gone after everyone Oliver and I care about - including you guys - until everyone was dead. It was the only choice."
After listening to all their arguments Oliver sighed and turned to Sara, "No, it wasn't. We had Slade and we were going to send him back to Lian Yu. We don't know what would have happened after that... if he would have scaped or not. But that's no reason to kill him. That's not what we do, that's not what I do anymore."
Sara raised her head higher and stared at him, "I'm from the League of Assassins; that's what I do. And I'd do it again."
The entire lair stood quiet for a minute while the whole team watched Oliver and Sara stare at each other unsure of what was going to happen next.
Finally, Oliver broke the silence with a neutral voice, "If you still consider yourself an Assassin then you should go back to the league. There is no place here for you if you think that way."
Sara nodded in agreement, "I shouldn't have left the League." She looked at everyone in the team before continuing, "You are a good team, it was nice to meet you all. Good luck saving the city." She walked to a shelf and grabbed a douffle bag she kept in the lair, the only personal thing she had kept there, before heading to the stairs, "Don't worry; I won't come back to Starling."
As she started to climb the stairs Oliver walked to her, "Sara-" he started but didn't know what else to say.
She turned around and smiled at him, "It's okay. We've always known it wouldn't work out. Besides, I belong in the league." And with that she was gone.
The team stared at each other silently for a moment not knowing what to say until Roy broke it, "So, what now?"
"Now we keep working on saving the city. Sara made her choice," Oliver said with finality. "But first we need a few days off. This whole thing with Slade has taken a lot out of all of us."
"What about ARGUS?" Felicity questioned.
"I'll call them. They won't be heartbroken that Slade is dead and they are not crazy enough to go against the League of Assassins after Sara for Slade."
"Okay," Felicity got her purse and walked back to the team, "I'm leaving. If you guys need anything just call me."
They all nodded and she could see Roy walking towards his backpack with a tired expression, also getting ready to leave. Oliver was right, they needed some time off and away from the lair.
Bruce heard a knock on his door and quickly opened it to find Felicity standing awkwardly in front of him.
"Hey, I thought you'd call when it was over."
She distractly looked up at him, "You're right, I should have called. I shouldn't have just come here and knocked on your door but I didn't feel like talking on the phone, I felt like coming here and the guy in the reception didn't stop me-"
He rested a hand on her arm, carefully pulling her into the room and closing the door behind them, "Come in, everything is okay now."
She walked into his open arms as he hugged her tightly.
"What's wrong?" He asked as he rubbed her back and walked her to his bedroom.
"Things didn't go as we planned."
"Are you okay? Anyone got hurt?" he asked worried.
She shook her head, "I'm fine. Everyone in the team is fine. But the bad guy died."
"What happened?"
She shook her head again, "I don't want to talk about it right now. It's just... when I joined the team I told them I would only help if no one else was killed. We are supposed to be better than that."
"You are."
She looked at him in disbelief, as though he didn't know what he was talking about.
He got closer and kissed her hair, "You wouldn't be feeling like this right now if you weren't better than that."
She sighed, finally feeling a little better with his words, "I'm a little disappointed in the team. I know it's not everyone's fault but... we are supposed to be the good guys. This shouldn't have happened."
Bruce didn't saying anything mainly because he agreed with her even though he understood that sometimes things happened and you couldn't control them. From what Felicity had said it seemed one member of the team had chosen to kill the bad guy but it hadn't been a group decision and though it was one person's decision he understood why it weightened on the team.
After a few minutes of silence in which Bruce just held her, Felicity added, "We decided to take a few days off. We've spent so much time and energy trying to take this guy down... and now this. I think everyone needs to take a step back and clear their minds."
"That means that I'll get to spend more time with you?"
She pulled back and chuckled, "If that's what you want..." she teased.
"Then get ready to get sick of me because I'm loving the idea of having you all to myself every night," he kissed her, leaning against her until she laid down and making her forget about everything else for the rest of the night.
Felictity rolled in bed in her sleep but woke up when she collided with something. Slowly opening just one eye, she looked up to find a smiling Bruce looking down at her.
She closed her eye again and sighed with a smile, "Hey."
Bruce chuckled, "Hey there, sleepy head."
With her eyes still closed she asked, "How long have you been up?"
She couldn't see him but she felt him shrug, "A couple of hours."
Suddenly she was wake and sitting up, "What time is it? Am I late for work?"
He laughed again, "Calm down. Today is Sunday and it's just a little after nine. Unless someone has tried to kill me I'm usually up early."
She looked at him puzzled, "Why would you do that? Mornings are meant to sleep."
He kissed her, "If you say so I'll be willing to spend the rest of the day in bed with you."
She shook her head but couldn't help the smile that covered her face or the yawn that followed, "Actually, I have to go home. I have no clean clothes here and I kind of miss spending the day veggin at home."
She looked at his face and could tell he was hesitant to invite himself to her home, so she offered, "You are always invited to join me but I'm warning you now that I'll probably spend the day having a series marathon sprawled on the couch. Also, I only have pizza, ice cream and wine at home."
He kissed her cheek, "I'd love to spend the day laying on a couch with you... doing whatever you want. And we can always order in later on."
She kissed him and stood up, gathering her clothes, "Then let's go. I can't wait to finish watching last season of Dr. Who."
Half an hour later she was turning the key in her door while looking at Bruce with apologetic eyes. Even though Bruce had slept in her apartment the night before she was still embarrased, "I'm sorry about my place... it will be a complete mess. Usually Saturday is cleaning up day; that's when I have some free time to actually make my apartment look livable again but with everything that happened yesterday..." she stopped mid-sentence when she opened her door and was greeted with a presentable apartment.
There were no clothes laying around the living room and once she walked in she noticed the dishes had been washed and the bed was made.
She turned to look at him with a half confused half shocked face, "What happened here?"
He scratched the back of his head, "Well, when I went to the kitchen to eat a pop tar with coffee yesterday I noticed the pile of dishes in the sink and I know you've been really busy, so I thought I could help. It's not like I had anything to do and I know it would help you at least a little..."
"I can't belive you cleaned up my apartment," she shook her head still baffled.
He shrugged, "It's no big deal. I had some time to kill so I thought I would make myself useful. I just made the bed, washed the dishes, grabbed all the clothes that were scattered around and folded them. I didn't touch the clothes that are in teh bin, though. I thought doing your laundry would be too much."
She looked at him with wide eyes, "That was a really good call."
He laughed at her scared expression at the mention of him doing her laundry. "I hope you don't mind about the rest. I don't want to overstep any limits you have."
She took his hand in hers, "It was a really sweet gesture and I appreciate it. You're right, I've been busy and you helped a lot. But in the future let me know before doing something like this. This is my home and I don't like people going through it without my knowledge."
"I don't intend to clean your apartment again any time soon but I'll be more careful before going through anything of yours in the future."
"Thanks," she squeezed his hand and then added in an after thought, "Specially my computer; that's completely off limits and a complete deal breaker."
"That I had already guessed."
After spending the whole afternoon sprawled on the couch as Felicity had warned him the couple order in from a restaurant in the neighbourhood and then went to bed.
They were laying naked in bed in silence as her fingers kept drawing circles on his chest as she watched it rise and fall when Bruce sighed in contentment and broke the silence, "I was invited to a charity gala here in Starling on Friday."
"Oh?"
"It's going to be boring but it wouldn't be insufferable if you were there with me."
She narrowed her eyes, "Do you think it's a good idea? I know there are some pictures of us in gossip magazines and on the internet but Starling's elite doesn't know we are together. They don't even know I exist. I know we've talked about going public but if we go to something like this together people will take our relationship a lot more seriously."
"Do you have a problem with that?" he asked carefully.
She shrugged, "Well, no," she paused, "But are you sure that's what you want?"
He took her hand in his, tangling their fingers together, "I'm positive."
She smiled at him then laid her head on his chest again as he kept playing with her hand. Her eyes were down, focused either on their hands or his chest but never on his face, even when she finally asked, "So, when are you going back to Gotham?"
Her voice was so calm but the question so loaded that she could have screamed it and it would have had the same effect on him. He stopped playing and took her hand to his lips, kissing it, "I don't have to go back right now. The press already knows we are dating so I don't have to come up with any ridiculous excuses to be in Starling. And although I'm still the name and the face and the CEO, Wayne Corporation doesn't need me to function."
She took their hand back closer to her and playfully bit his finger, "What about Batman?"
"Batman can take some vacation."
She looked up at him and raised an eyebrow, questioningly.
"Being Batman... I've sacrificed a lot for Gotham. And I don't regret it. But I'm not gonna sacrifice us. I refuse to let you be a "what if" in my life."
She tried to hide a smile but after his words it was impossible. She kissed his chest but then became quieter again, "And what happens when you have to go back to Gotham?"
He sighed looking up at the ceiling, "Then we will see. For now, I have everything that I need on this bed."
