-Chapter 2- Team JADE
Austin stood atop of the cliff looking out to the Emerald Forest with his weapon Argenti Lustitia (meaning 'Silver Justice') which acted as a Mace however had two extendable blades on both sides with the ability to shoot dust or infuse it to the blades.
He had been told by Qrow about what the first mission involved and was there bright and early to see if he could eye an individual that he'd be partnered with for the next 4 years that he'd get along with and may have some skill in combat or academics.
Daisy and Jade had woken up at an agreed upon time making sure to eat a good breakfast as they had heard the rumours of teams getting formed today by other 1st year students along with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th students or perhaps some 1st year students that had a brother or sister that attend Beacon or Graduated.
Daisy's fighting style was more of a stealth approach, sneak attacks like a ninja with speed, silence and precision. Wielding Tantos which she named Occultatum Pulchritudo (meaning 'Hidden Beauty') while Jade liked to face head on preferring one on one with her longsword that she appropriately named Jadeite Castitas (meaning 'Rare Purity') and just like Austin's weapon it could infuse dust with the blade.
The two new friends discussed how they should be on the same team together and theories why they had been told to go to the cliffside of the Emerald Forest as they made their way there.
Upon arriving most of the 1st year students in their group were gathered in the small area, all in separate small groups or off by themselves. Daisy and Jade discussed if they should introduce themselves to anyone here but decided against it as everybody else isn't doing that and looking around almost everyone had the same clueless look upon their faces.
The two continued to talk and get to know each other more and tried their best to come up with a way to make sure they'd become team mates thinking they may have to draw names from a hat or maybe they'd get to choose their team mate(s).
Eventually Professor Ozpin arrived with a newly appointed young Professor Port, they had everyone line up on a square tile each as they get told that they need to make their way to a clearing at the end of the path, once there they would choose a Relic and guard it with their life and bring it back to the top of the cliff.
Professor Port then continued on by telling the students that before they pick a Relic you need a team partner as it would be 1 Relic between both members of the team, after entering the forest whoever you make eye contact with first will determine who your partner for the next 4 years will be.
Professor Ozpin continues with saying they will be monitored and graded for their performance as the creatures of Grimm may be encountered while in the forest, the instructors will not intervene for any reason.
Without warning the tiles hurl all the students into the air after Professor Ozpin wishes everyone good luck and a quick remark of being careful where they land with a small smirk on his face.
Qrow had told Austin all about the way Professor Ozpin would make them enter the forest and was the only one prepared and with a well thought out plan as Austin soars through the sky he shoots dust from his mace downwards slowing his fall, extending a blade from his mace he cuts through a thick tree branch then uses the falling branch as a launch pad jumping to a nearby tree then jumping from branch to branch until hitting the ground sinking his blade into a lone unaware Boarbatusk which evaporates.
Hitting the ground running Austin keeps his eyes open on the lookout for Grimm and other students hoping he could find someone to work well with.
Eada recovers and controls her fall aiming for a tree, approaching the tree at a reckless speed, just before she is about to slam into the tree she uses her Trident called Veritas Cupitor (meaning 'Truth Seeker') to stab into the trunk halting her fall and potential crash into the tree. Releasing Veritas Cupitor Eada begins climbing down carefully.
Jade uses her longsword to cut through multiple branches to get them out of her path before she uses her semblance to teleport herself to a tree then repeats the process till she is on the ground.
Daisy on the other hand flies through the air as long as possible trying her best to see where Jade lands, thinking she has the right spot she throws one of her small swords attached to a ribbon into a tree and when the ribbon pulls tight she swings to a tree before using her swords to stab into the tree as she jumps from tree to tree before landing right in front of Jade who just teleported into the spot right in front of Daisy.
Smiling Daisy then nervously asks "Are you stalking me?" Not to sure how the joke would land but the two new friends giggle but then go back to being serious looking out for Grimm and heading in the direction of the clearing to get to the ruins. Even though they are alert they discuss each other's semblance, fighting style and come up with some techniques they could use together and both are working well off each other and glad they partnered up.
Austin was the first person at the ruins getting there easily and running into a couple of Grimm that he could easily take out blindfolded. However his main problem was there was nobody else there and he hadn't run into anyone on his way there. Being mindful not to rush back into the forest and waste time and energy he chose to stay put just waiting for the 1st person without a team mate to arrive.
Deciding to meditate was ideal keeping any negative emotions at bay as he waited for his potential partner to arrive and hopefully soon.
Pair by pair showed up at the Ruins, each picking a Relic and leaving after some asked Austin if he was ok, Austin told each team that asked that he had been there first and just waiting for someone without a partner to arrive. He wished all the other teams the best of luck as they departed to make their way back to the cliff as Austin stared at the forest waiting.
A few teams had shown up with Grimm on their tail and Austin was happy to lend assistance cutting heads off beowolves and taking down ursas however with each passing minute and each passing team Austin began to get more annoyed thinking how hard could it be to land and make their way here.
Jade and Daisy had shown up as Austin was practicing to fight without a weapon. While Jade went to pick a Relic Daisy just had to go over and thank Austin for the day before stepping in helping her with that guy who pushed her.
Approaching Austin she introduced herself and Austin did to asking if she had a partner, Austin nodded along when Daisy pointed out Jade who was now approaching them. Daisy explained the reason why she came over and thanked Austin for standing up for her as Austin said "Anytime" with a small smile he then encouraged Daisy and Jade to get to the top of the cliff and not worry about him thinking someone should come soon.
Daisy and Jade departed with a wave as Austin was left alone again, soon enough more and more teams showed up and Austin looked at the only 1 Relic left thinking to himself that he had to be partnered up with someone that couldn't do a basic task in a reasonable timeframe.
Eventually emerging from the forest into the clearing was his partner as she was the only student left he could partner up with. Picking up the remaining Relic locking eyes with a girl with blonde hair. His first two words were "I'm Austin" and glared at the blonde girl, his eyes like daggers, sure he sounded polite but Austin was not too happy about the assignment of his new partner as she introduced herself as Eada.
Eada was glad that her partner wasn't a faunus but the two were far from making small talk as tension was high between the duo for some reason as they made their way back to the cliff. Austin did his best to go as fast as possible but it didn't help with Eada dragging her feet and complaining how she shouldn't have to suffer through this and it was an insult to her status.
Austin at that point snapped as he had enough of her whining, giving Eada a piece of his mind. "You signed up to become a Huntress, nobody forced you here and there are no shortcuts, this task we have is the most basic level of training and if you're struggling now imagine what it'd be like being a 2nd year let alone being here two weeks. So what if you have social standing or money, a Huntsman helps people and not all missions are glamourous showing off in the middle of the street and you need to put in the hard work!"
Eada could not believe the tone Austin had used, as she was about to attempt a comeback she didn't notice the Beowolve approaching fast behind her as Austin rolled his eyes thinking that this girl can't even pay attention to her surroundings as he drew Argenti Lustitia extending a blade and cutting off its head.
Eada stunned had nothing to as Austin just started walking to the direction of the cliff. As Eada stood there Austin then had to say "We need to get out of here, more Grimm will be here soon" which got Eada moving as she followed Austin.
Finally arriving back atop the cliff they found everyone waiting for them, Professor Ozpin and Professor Port discussed some notes quietly watching Austin who was clearly annoyed and a furious pouting Eada following behind as Austin threw the Relic to Professor Port and joined the awaiting group of students.
Daisy and Jade wanted to go see what's wrong between Austin and Eada but decided against it as they appeared to be ticking time bombs ready to explode any second however Jade stared at Austin, studying him and got the feeling he had something else on his mind but looking into his silver eyes Jade felt an immense connection even though they had only just met earlier very briefly.
Returning to Beacon all first year students were assigned to a team that picked the same Relic so all teams would be comprised of 4 members. They would be given a team name based on a colour and from reviewing the task of collecting a Relic a leader will be appointed for each team.
Daisy waited nervously, Jade was excited to possibly have the chance to make two more friends, Eada acting as entitled as ever thinking she would obviously be her team leader and looking at Austin he looked calm and relaxed but looking closely Jade could tell he was still bitter at Eada. She made a mental note that he was hard to read as she thought to herself and let a quick daydream fill her mind before she quickly blocked it out focusing on the presentations of each new team waiting for her team to be formed.
Joining Professor Ozpin on stage Daisy, Jade, Austin and Eada stood facing out to the crowd with Professor Ozpin announcing "Jade Ryann, Austin Avery, Daisy Hartley and Eada Vendetta from now on you'll be called team JADE led by Jade Ryann, congratulations".
Applause amongst the crowd filled the theatre but ever since Professor Ozpin called out Eada's full name Austin had been glaring at her, clenching his fists and gritting his teeth holding back his anger.
