A short boy, his father, and another man hired to be their bodyguard walked down the busy streets of a wealthy city. The boy and his father held bags of groceries in their hands. The boy had short brown hair and bright green eyes. His father owned a full head of white hair, complete with mustache and beard, and blue eyes. The bodyguard was tall with thinning gray hair and hazel eyes. He was getting old in years, but still felt plenty tough for the job of bodyguard. The father had retired from robotics in luxury, living with his three children in their lavish mansion that was even able to accompany servants such as the bodyguard and maids.
As they walked, an arm reached from behind grabbing the boy. Before the boy knew it, there was a loaded gun pointed at his head. A sinister voice from behind him hissed; "No sudden moves or the boy gets it. You want the kid alive? Pay up!" A tall thug had a hold of the boy, threatening to shoot him if any twitches or jerks were made, demanding money. The father was hoping for the bodyguard to do something, but even the bodyguard was in no position to do anything in fear of endangering the boy's life.
From out of an alleyway behind them, a black clad blond male lurched out, grabbing the thug and yanking him off the boy. The thug found it so unexpected, the gun fell from his hand as he and the blond tumbled into the middle of the street. The bodyguard helped the boy up as all three of them watched the thug and the blond who were fighting each other. The thug tried punches, the blond blocked them. The thug tried bullets, the blond dodged them all. The blond grabbed the gun and crushed it in his hands before slamming the thug against the pavement repeatedly until the thug didn't move on his own anymore.
The three had noticed many threatening features on the blond; red-purple hands tipped with long black claws, large wings, and when he was in the right direction long fangs whose tips jutted out of his mouth a little. The blond limped away from the dead thug and onto the sidewalk before dropping to his knees and onto the ground, out cold. The brunette boy ran to the blond as did the father and the bodyguard. A closer look at the armored child showed many dents and scratches, the red chest lens was cracked as was the small blue helmet crystal, some spots of the underarmor were torn, and the boy's face was covered in cuts, bruises, and blood, dried and fresh. The brunette boy wept for the blond, holding the unconscious blond close. "You saved my life."
The father looked at the bodyguard. "Mr. Hellmuth, take our groceries home. This boy needs emergency medical treatment." Mr. Hellmuth nodded. "As you wish, Master Light." The father came closer to the blond and lifted him into his arms. The boy kept close as they went to the local doctor's office.
At the doctor's office, Dr. Cain spent a lot of time looking the blond over and checking his vital signs. The blond wasn't in good shape. The boy and his father watched in silent anticipation. They saw the doctor's shake plenty of times, signaling bad news. "I've seen this one lurking about with a group of local thugs. Its interesting to find him attacking other thugs all of a sudden. Though I haven't seen him on the prowl for maybe months until now. Something must've lead him to change his behavior. That aside, he's at death's door. He's malnurished, his right ankle is broken, and if his wounds aren't treated in his condition, they could prove fatal." Dr. Cain told Light. Light shook his head. "Save him, Dr. Cain. If he indeed has changed from formerly crooked behavior, he's earned a chance to start over. I..I owe him my son's life." The brunette blushed. "He saved me from gunpoint, doctor..Please help him." Dr. Cain nodded. "I can patch him up, but I can't provide food. That will have to be done by you." Light nodded. "Small price to pay for his life."
After maybe half an hour of treating the boy's wounds, Dr. Cain made more discoveries about the blond. "He has some strange energy inside him. His vocal chords look unused. Perhaps he can't talk at all." The brunette tilted his head. "Strange energy?" Dr. Cain nodded. "Yes, X. Its as though he isn't human." The doctor checked a wound he had just treated and it was already healed. Light was surprised too. "So, he might be something not human? A demon, perhaps?" Dr. Cain nodded. "Its likely. No human wounds, even on a dying human, heal so quick." Light looked at the unconscious blond. "You also said his vocal chords are unused. He is a mute, then? Perhaps I could modify his armor to fix that. I do want to have a better look at it." Dr. Cain nodded. "That would be useful. Keep him at rest all you can. He shouldn't be moving in his condition and make sure he eats. If he doesn't eat soon, its all over for him."
X did his best to keep the blond close on the walk home. Light helped support the blond, observing the armor he wore. He found a few words on the boy's helmet. "Absolute...Zero." X looked to his father. "Zero? That name is pretty." He kept Zero tight as they walked. "Don't worry, Zero, we'll take good care of you."
