-Chapter 5- Combat Tournament, 2nd day
The next morning Eada had woken up early to find Austin already gone, the other two team members were sleeping away as she left not really wanting to deal with the issue that her fight got picked on the most. Team JADE was trying to help Eada but seeing it as an attack she is determined to prove that she can fight.
Heading into the Dining Hall for some breakfast before heading to the arena. Arriving she had found Austin talking to some 3rd and 4th year students, she didn't want to approach not being a fan of Austin however she strode over as if she was in charge and demanded attention from Austin in such a manner like trying to boss her butler around.
Austin had ignored Eada, he wasn't going to let himself be treated as such and ignoring Eada only infuriated her more. The other students looked to each other knowing she was the difficult one that needed a reality check.
Eada had given up and walked in front of Austin drawing her weapon and challenging Austin to a fight as she was sick and tired of being ignored. Austin remained calm, looking to his fellow students to see what they thought and could see some agreed to fight while others agreed that he should walk away.
Austin facing Eada asked if she was absolutely sure and Eada not backing down got ready to fight, Austin just stood there, arms crossed and did the most disrespectful thing he could do to Eada in her eyes and actually turned away resuming his conversation with his fellow students once again like nothing happened.
As other 1st year students entered the arena Eada posed like nothing happened, being her proper self and pretended to be warming up. Jade and Daisy wandered in together as Daisy said to Jade "See I told you they'd be here, most likely warming up" The teams took their seats as Professor Port and Professor Ozpin entered the arena announcing the 2nd day will be focused with 2 on 2 duels. Everyone's partner was the person who made eye contact with on the first day. Eada looked at Austin as if she was about to vomit having to work with Austin.
Jade and Daisy looked at each other and high fived, this past week they had discussed several battle plans between the both of them and were on the same page but they looked to Austin and Eada not too confident that the duo will end up fighting each other or worse actually argue instead of fight.
Just like the previous day the teams were selected randomly, Daisy and Jade enjoyed a conversation, socializing with other students around them and paying some attention between duels.
Quite a bit of time had passed before any member of team JADE was even called to fight and in that time Eada and Austin remained apart. Austin studying all the fights and even talking to Jade and Daisy however was wandering when Eada would come over and talk strategy about their upcoming battle. He had even gone up to Eada and with her ignoring him acting childish Austin just shrugged and walked off going to prepare his own strategy.
He couldn't believe how Eada could not see her flaws, not being able to take criticism, acting childish etc. the list went on, entitled, spoilt but the worst flaw she had was she went around thinking she was perfect, treating everyone as beneath her.
While that was happening Jade had gotten interested in one fight that was a nail biter, Percy Jackson and his team mate were holding their own against another duo. Daisy on the other hand was focused on something completely different with her hands in her lap and when the fight was over she turned to Jade, hiding behind her long hair covering her face and nervously mumbling something which then had her looking away embarrassed.
Jade grabbed Daisy's hand and that's when Daisy tied a friendship bracelet around her wrist and just waiting for Jade to rip it off. To her surprise Jade just smiled and thanked Daisy for the gift and thanking her for being the 1st friend since her other two friends she had were now off working on a ship. Guessing her other team mates could be classified as friends but they weren't exactly all close which Jade reminded herself that'll change someday or perhaps today.
Half an hour later Daisy and Jade get called up to fight as they enter the arena to face off their 2 opponents. This time Jade would be facing someone other then her team member as Jade and Daisy weigh up their opponents. One had a longsword like Jade and the other was dressed in a outfit that had lights and reflective armour.
Jade whispered to Daisy how'd she would take the guy with the sword and Daisy to take the guy on the right. As soon as the fight started Daisy and Jade rushed in for the first strike, Daisy acted like she was going to try fight a longsword with her two short tantos when at the last second she ducked and slid under his legs as Jade came in knocking him off balance with a hit of her own and landed a couple of blows before the guy stepped back preparing for a fight against Jade.
Daisy had kept running towards the other guy who fires a single shot from his pistol having Eada dodge easily, as she dodges she prepares to strike but when she turns to strike a bright red flash blinds her eyes and as she is focused on that the guy performs a roundhouse kick to her gut knocking her down.
She isn't out of it as she goes in for another tactic after dodging a few of his shots from his pistol. Jade on the other hand was keeping up but both longsword wielders were getting hits and less blocks, somehow Jade and the other guy were getting worn out faster then usual.
She figured it had to do with his semblance briefly looking at Daisy moving quick, agile even though she got knocked down a few times she seemed to have alot more energy. The guy Jade was fighting smirked and said that his semblance was being able to drain people's aura but at the cost of his as he went in for a final shot. Jade had ducked and as he passed by she pressed her hand to his arm and used her semblance teleporting him to the edge of the ring where he fell out of it causing an elimination via ring out. Jade had a look at Daisy, her aura level was halfway to the red zone and she couldn't even get close to the other guy.
As Jade then saw as Daisy was about to strike that the lights on his outfit lit more brightly making a blinding flash which had Daisy blinded and open for attack. She checked her aura which was extremely low and as Daisy went in for another potential attack the guy used the light once more blinding her but instead of kicking her away he pulled out his pistol. A small charge of electricity shot through the air to Daisy.
Daisy got her sight under control to see the electric current being fired at her, too late to try dodge she closed her eyes just waiting for the hit but it never come. Opening her eyes she saw Jade had used her semblance to teleport herself into the path of the shot getting electrocuted and eliminated from the match bringing it down to 1 on 1.
As Jade fell to her knees exhausted after the shock she warned Daisy that the lights on his suit are the things blinding her. Daisy nodded and had a 2nd look at the suit, seeing Jade was right, being a faunus she could see clearly at night, her eyesight was better then mostly everyone she knew.
The guy clapped and mocked Daisy for finally figuring it out and that she should just surrender but Daisy had another plan in mind. Ripping off part of her sleeve she tied it around her head blindfolding herself. Eada watched on confused and Austin smiled as he'd been thinking the same thing, the crowd started paying more attention now with the fight more interesting and some cheers in the crowd.
Daisy had seen this guy on the 1st day showing off his control of electricity, she had avoided him but he had made the mistake of announcing his semblance, the loud cheering crowd became silent as Daisy used her semblance focusing on the sounds of her opponent. With no chance to be blinded Daisy charged for an attack but stopped and quickly ducked as she heard him reach for his pistol. She had ducked under the shot of electricity this time.
Her faunus heritage and semblance were a gift in this battle as she threw a tanto knocking his pistol out of his hand then charging. Still focusing she knew how his body was positioned to defend at her strike but with a surprise as she ran to him she dropped her weapon, somersaulted and with her feet kicked his chest as hard as she could sending him flying back and landing outside the ring.
She had heard the crowd cheer at such a skilled fight taking off her blindfold and seeing Jade walk over to her, the duo hugged and thanked their opponents before returning to their seats where Austin had a bottle of water for both congratulating them on the fight.
Daisy was smiling bright, she couldn't believe she did that in front of the entire first year students as Austin leans into Jade and Daisy's ear whispering that Professor Ozpin seemed to enjoy it. All of Team JADE looked at Ozpin as he gave an approving nod before taking a sip from his coffee mug.
The fight following theirs was a little disappointing but having to follow that straight away was rough unless you did something to top that. Eventually it had got to the last fight as Austin and Eada were finally called, Jade and Daisy had rested and got their energy back wishing them good luck. In the arena Eada had turned to Austin telling him to stay out of her way.
Professor Ozpin took some interest in this fight as their opponents drew their weapons as they both wielded swords. When the buzzer started their fight Austin stepped in front of Eada and pushed her out of the arena eliminating his own team mate which had the crowd confused but anxious to see what would happen.
Austin extended the blades of his weapon waiting for the two to attack. Looking at each other they decide to both attack at the same time and trying to flank him. Fighting in the centre of the duo Austin kept the defense up as he easily repelled all strikes with his double blades and even striking when given the chance.
The duo stepped away making their battle plan obvious as one attacked first then left Austin's range while the other followed. This was more simple for Austin to block and as both attacked at once trying to throw Austin off he jumped back letting the two hit each other causing some damage.
As they recovered Austin went in for a kick but not aiming for any body part, he kicked a sword out of the hand of one of his opponent's making it land out of the boundary of the ring. Annoyed with no sword he grabbed Austin's weapon as the two fought over the his, while the other guy's team mate tried to find an opening to strike.
With each strike Austin was able to just block it or move out of the way overpowering the other opponent. Austin used his brain then let go of his weapon and dropped to the ground as the guy made a strike hitting his friend who dropped Austin's weapon and eliminating him from the fight.
Austin grabbed his weapon off the ground and just looked at the other guy standing serious and composed. As he charged Austin with frustration trying his best to land any strike on him pulling out his best moves being a little quicker but lacked the strength to push through Austin's blocks.
Austin improved his speed and with his strength each hit landing with a full force at the other guy blocking but stumbling, now off balance he made a desperate attempt to get behind him but was cut off by Austin's blade hitting him in the gut knocking him to the ground and depleting his aura into the red zone. With that Austin and Eada were declared winners and Austin was the one cheered after showing his respect to his fellow students offering help up.
Professor Ozpin nodded towards Austin and then announced to the rest of the students that the class was over and to be prepared for the 3rd and final day tomorrow. Team JADE got some food and headed back to their dorms, some students along the way gushed at Jade, Daisy and Austin's skill as Eada looked at Austin with hatred.
In the dorm Eada told them all she was going to bed and no talking. Drawing her curtain Daisy just sighed and thought that they could talk about their fights in the morning. She prepared for bed as Jade thought to herself before asking Austin to give her some combat training as Eada tried to shush her team leader.
He offered to go right now while she was determined and the duo announced they'll be back shortly. In the arena Austin and Jade had brought their weapons, sparring as Austin gave Jade tips, teaching Jade some counters and new techniques. After they had sparred they sat down having a break, Jade had looked at Austin who wasn't even panting like she was and asked why, Austin then told her the story of how he had trained with a Huntsman before entering Beacon's entrance exams and the way he got his semblance as he kept overcoming his limits.
Jade now saw a new side of Austin, a side that he hid well and understood about trust, she asked about his parents and he gave her their names and what they did but didn't want to talk about it. As they talked Jade thought to herself to not repeat any of this to anyone or push for more information as this may be the first time Austin may have opened up since his parent's death.
Austin had switched the topic to Jade trying to get to know her, how she missed her friends that should be here with her. Austin could only give advice and a comforting embrace putting his arm around her shoulder for a short type of hug side to side. They kept talking about her friends as Austin noticed the friendship bracelet and reminded Jade that she had Daisy and himself.
She smiled as the two went quiet not sure what to say, the pair locked eyes and felt a moment, upon this they seized it as they both simultaneously leant in and kissed each other...
To be continued...
