Zero checked out his repaired armor, not seeing a dent, tear, or crack in sight. "It looks just like new again. Thank you, Master Light." The blond covered his mouth. "Wait..did I just..?" Light grinned. "Yes, you did. I made a device that reads your brainwaves and turns your thoughts into speech. The input is in your helmet, the output is the collar on your neck. This should make communication a little easier for you. The output comes out in what your voice should sound like. Its not robotic." Zero looked back Light. "Thank you so much. I owe you and X so much." Light shook his head. "No, you don't. Though, I must ask if you are ready for the experiment I mentioned." Zero shrugged. "I suppose I am with my armor repaired and tuned up." Light grinned a little. "Alright, if you'll follow me and Xavier, we'll begin." X and Zero got off Light's lap and followed him out of the kitchen.
Zero was lead outside behind the mansion. There was a small courtyard and a forest beyond it. Zero felt confused. "What am I supposed to do here in the open?" Light looked at him. "Its here that we set you free. I have a camera also installed in your helmet to show me what you see. There is a small external camera on your collar as well. I want to see how you behave on your own." X sniffled a little. "You're free now, Zero." Zero turned to X and snuggled him for a long while before he took flight away towards the forest. Light pulled his son close against him as they watched Zero fly away. Rock, Roll, Iris, and Mr. Hellmuth watched the whole thing from inside. They had grown to like him in the time Zero was there. Each wondered if he would be back. X was crying against his father's chest. "Its all part of the experiment, son. I want to see his behavior when he's out on his own. I have no doubt that he will return when he feels tired." Light soothed. Then he whispered something in X's ear. X's knees grew weak and his face turned very red. "Papa..."
As much as he had hated to leave X's side, Zero enjoyed flying in the wide open sky. He didn't know where he was going, but he had a sense of where the mansion was. His flight gave him pause for thought, reflecting on his time as a gang member, meeting X and Light, and the steps he was taking to reverse his old kleptomania. He missed X most of all, realizing the depth of their bond. He didn't feel like X treated him as a thug or even a slave. He felt like X was showing him something he'd never been shown; Love. He had an urge to reward X's affections with some of his own, but he didn't know how. After a while, he reached an unfamiliar town, spotting and landing behind a sushi restaurant. He quietly grunted in curiosity, managing to observe from one of the cooks inside how sushi rolls were made.
This gave Zero an idea. He turned away from the restaurant and flew towards a lake he had passed earlier. He tucked his wings in and dove into the water, catching a lot of fish and snagging a lot of seaweed from the lakebed's floor. Zero soon jumped out of the water with many fish and just as much seaweed in his mouth and both hands. He landed beside the lake, holding his catch tight as he shook himself off like a dog. He took flight again, grunting contently as he flew back in the direction of the mansion.
Light and X had watched Zero's camera feed much of the time. Though when he got to the restaurant and watched the chefs in action, both got hungry and left for the kitchen, relieved that Zero was ok and behaving himself.
Zero landed in the courtyard as evening fell. He eagerly ran inside the mansion through the back door. Iris had seen him coming and opened the door for him. The blond raced down the hall of the mansion, running into the kitchen. He was in luck that the chefs were away for the moment and quickly got to work.
The blond went out of the kitchen when he was done with the fish, seaweed, and a few other vegetables to take a quick bathroom break. When he came back, he spied Light and X at the kitchen door, looking inside in surprise. X was speechless. "Who served this?" Light asked the chefs. All of them shook their heads. A few of the cooks grew alarmed when black wings wrapped around both Light and X. "Masters, behind you!" Zero's wings closed on them gently and he bumped the both of them forward toward the table with his head. X blushed brightly when Zero bumped him and his father along, keeping them in his wings. "Zero! I'm so glad you're home. Did you make this sushi buffet for us?" Zero nodded deeply. "I did. I found a sushi place a ways away from here and it gave me inspiration." Light chuckled. "We saw you had discovered the restaurant. It made us hungry so we didn't see what else you did." Zero grinned, grunting gently as he kept bumping them forward to the buffet. "I did some fishing and made sushi of my own, based off what I had seen. I used salmon, bass, trout, and even some tuna." His wings let go of them as they neared the table. Light smiled. "So, I was right. Without pressure from bad influences, you have a kinder nature that is then allowed to shine through. The device I installed is making me realize that without it, you speak a language many humans don't know. A language of nature. Your actions and your body's movement do your communicating for you." X smiled, nodding in agreement. "And you move beautifully. It makes you look sassy. I might even say...attractive." Zero blushed, folding his wings. "I've never thought of it that way before." Light nodded as he and X sat at the table. "Agreed. So attractive, you've inadvertantly swooned several people in the mansion." Zero gave a confused grunt. "Who?" He looked around behind him. Iris and Roll happened by, blushing and waving at him. The blond grunted gently. "Oh." Light smiled. "There's one more." Zero tilted his head. "Who else?" Light smiled more. "Xavier." X put down his chopsticks and hid his face into his shirt.
Zero purred and came closer and pulled X's shirt back down with his teeth. X looked at him shyly. The blond stared at X with half lidded eyes and a gentle grin, cooing at him softly. "Master Xavier has been kind to me since the first day. I thought this would be a nice way to repay him for all he and Master Light have done for me." X tried to hide his face again, but Zero took X's hands in his. The blond gave X's cheeks long gentle licks with a long tongue before kissing his lips. He gently placed X's hands on X's knees, stealing another kiss before picking up X's chopsticks and offering him a tuna roll. X took the tuna roll, keeping his eyes on Zero as he ate. Zero contently took a piece of raw salmon for himself, closing his eyes contently. X leaned toward Zero, kissing Zero's lips. Zero's eyes opened wide, looking at X with a bright blush. 'I love you, Zero. I'm so sorry for your past. You never got a chance to show that people's assumptions about you were just that assumptions. I've seen your kinder nature and I love it. I also want to be taught that language you know so well.' Zero nuzzled X's cheek with a grin. He picked up a salmon roll with his sharp teeth, gently bobbing his head a little. X looked a little puzzled but reached for the roll with his lips. Zero nodded gently. X blushed, bobbing his head as Zero had done. Zero reached his head forward as X bit into the roll, splitting it in half. The blond managed to catch the other half of the roll, eating it contently. X blushed brightly at having just shared a sushi roll with Zero. Light watched them, enjoying how Zero's more animal-esque gestures seemed to have more meaning than any words Zero could ever use.
When their buffet table was clean, both X and Zero cleared away the dishes. Light removed the cameras from Zero's armor. X then took Zero's hand and eagerly jogged Zero along with him to Zero's room. He locked the door behind them, watching Zero crawl onto the bed and sit down. X walked towards Zero on the bed. He gently pressed the head crystal on Zero's helmet, deactivating the armor and setting the helmet on the dresser. Zero snuggled X's side, noticing a bulge in X's jeans. He leaned his head down, licking and kissing X's bulge. X moaned as Zero licked the bulge in his pants, slowly lifting Zero's shirt up. Zero paused, letting X take the shirt off him.
