-Chapter 10- Field work
Back in the dorm Jade informed the rest of her team that each team would be free to sign up for an Official Huntsman mission as they would be partnered with an Qualified Huntsman. She told them they would hear all of this tomorrow but now to use tonight in what the team may want to do and could talk things out and if not everyone agreed then they could vote. Austin had been tuning his guitar and even though Jade wanted to hear him play she focused on the team as they talked and showed them all the choices of what type of job they could possibly take.
Jade wanted to test take the ultimate test and go for Search and Destroy while Eada wanted to do an Escort mission guiding civilians through Grimm infested areas. Daisy on the other hand thought Perimeter Defense would be the best option as Austin didn't mind which type of mission he'd do. Before coming to Beacon he had already tailed Qrow on his missions and he had done every single type of mission and even went with Qrow doing Ozpin's requests. Jade, Eada and Daisy discussed it making sure they included Austin but all couldn't agree.
That is until Austin piped up asking the team why don't they do Village Security to help a village not recognized as a Kingdom just like Daisy was from. He then explained that if there were Grimm then they'd obviously have to fight but also have the challenge of protecting the locals and making sure they're safe, it would have perimeter defense as they'd be patrolling and even upgrade the perimeter. Facing Eada, Austin continued to then say it's not exactly escorting from village to village but they were making sure the village would be safe for people to come and go as they please.
The 4 looked at each other and since it had a little something for all of them Jade put her hand in, followed by Eada, Austin then Daisy as the team agreed on Village Security. Jade smiled after the team had thrown their hands up in the air, everyone was getting along and if they were given this choice a few weeks ago then they'd all be arguing or all going in a separate direction to cool off as things would usually get heated. Looking at her team she believed she had found a perfect harmony with them as Austin had started training everyone if they wanted it and all were doing the team activities they agreed upon.
In the morning the team got ready, heading into the atrium as all the 1st year students were greeted by Professor Ozpin explaining that each team had to choose a job to shadow a qualified Huntsman. However severely warning all students that this would be an actual mission and their is always a risk, depending on the job the risk could be great or low, Ozpin continued to explain that they each had a job to do and always listen to the Huntsman they were assigned to cause he or she could have you sent back if they felt your skills weren't up to the task.
As everyone was dismissed Jade made sure everyone still wanted to do Village Security and with everybody agreeing she entered the team name onto the board accepting the mission. Each member of Team JADE got a notification on their scrolls having their orders, they were to pack a bag and head to a small island off the coast of Vale called Patch. The airship was ready and waiting for them as Team JADE boarded the airship after seeing Team TGRN off as they wished them luck as they had chosen Search and Destroy. Daisy had hugged each member before leaving feeling a little off but put it down to being nervous ash she boarded the airship with her team.
Patch being a small island was safe enough for residence and also the location of the combat school Signal Academy where Jade had previously attended with her friends David and Julie. Jade messaged her friends whilst on the gunship, knowing they were on their way to Menagerie how they were doing a Village Security job in Patch and boasted that she was going to get to see Signal Academy again. Julie and David hadn't responded but guessing they were busy keeping the ship in order she focused her mind as the airship prepared for landing.
Touching down, while Austin made sure everything they had brought with them was off the airship the rest of Team JADE were met by a guy with a red cape and a flask in hand. Clearly not what they expected as he stumbled slowly toward the young girls and only given a "Hey". The three girls looked at each other clearly thrown off thinking this guy couldn't be a Huntsman as she asked if he was drunk. That's when Austin came up from behind as he walked by his team saying that he believes he fights better when he's drunk going up to Qrow as the two gave each other a fist bump.
Clearly to the girls Austin knew this person as they started talking as Austin mentioned something which had Qrow cracking up, Jade and the 2 girls approached the duo and asked what were their orders. Qrow looked at Jade astonished, he looked at Austin and asked if she was the leader and if she was an Ironwood type. Austin laughed and told him Jade was the leader but this is her first time meeting a Huntsman in field and expected more, Austin turned to his team pointing out Jade, Daisy and Eada and introducing them to his mentor and friend Qrow Branwen.
As Eada and Jade had a few questions they were basically ignored as Qrow had waved his hand and tried to shush them, sputtering some words that they couldn't comprehend as Austin walked along with Qrow leading them to a single apartment with 2 rooms, Qrow had his own and just like the dorm back at Beacon they all had to share a room but this room was much smaller than their dorm and consisted only of 2 bunk beds. Choosing a bunk and unpacking Qrow let everyone know they could take it easy until tomorrow when their shift kicks in and would be here for the next week.
Eada got busy by double checking what type of Grimm were known to the territory around Patch, Austin got his guitar as he sat in the lounge with Qrow just like old times when it was Qrow teaching him. Jade asked Daisy if she wanted to come along to pay visit to Signal academy and show her around, with not much else to do and the lounge smelling a bit like alcohol Daisy needed the excuse to get out of the place even though they just arrived. Jade went to ask Austin but thought against it as Austin seemed to have made himself comfortable.
The best friends left after telling everyone where they were going as Jade took Daisy along showing her the old hang out spots and when her friends and her went exactly in the learning mood they'd go to a certain spot to goof off, Jade was pointing out like a tour guide as if she were an actual tour guide explaining the life of Jade. Daisy stopped her friend as her speaking started to get much faster telling her to relax and they had time for a tour. Jade apologized after turning red, she admitted that she just got excited showing her around the place she grew up with and wished she could meet her other friends.
At Signal Jade and Daisy signed in as visitors as they went around the halls as Jade continued to show Eada her stomping grounds and even stopped in on a couple of classes to let her favourite Professors know how it was going at Beacon. Finding out she was the leader of the team got the Professors to ask her to talk to the class and as she introduced herself with Daisy she felt a large amount of pride. Telling the students if they kept working at becoming the best Huntsman they could be then someday they may be at Beacon or one of the other schools in Remnant.
She explained about being a leader and also told the story of how her team didn't get along at first, giving them tips just like Ray gave her, she found students writing down everything she was telling them also careful to leave some parts out but continued on how the team started working together, communication and trust being the key. Just as Jade had started talking it was time for her to go as the students needed to get back to their lesson plan as Jade bid farewell to each Professor.
On the way out of Signal Jade was stopped by Dr. Merlot, he asked Jade what she was doing back at Signal and after introducing Daisy one more time today that she had lost count and told the Doctor that she was visiting as her mission didn't need to start till tomorrow. She informed him of what she had said to the students and when he found out she was the leader of her team he gave her this card telling her to call if she ever needed academic help and if she played her cards right he could use her services upon graduating after the next 4 years.
Jade thanked him and told her she would keep him in mind as they departed, the pair walked along Jade was still beaming a smile feeling so energized however Daisy got a bad feeling from this Dr. Merlot but chose not to say anything as they returned back to the apartment. Qrow was sleeping on the couch, Eada studying away on the computer and Austin sat outside the apartment playing his guitar making sure it was tuned, something he hadn't done in a while as the last time he spent a day on his music was before his parents death.
Jade greeted Austin with a quick kiss and sat next to him, Daisy went into the apartment to get a drink but just had to get away from seeing her crush act all gooey and romantic in front of her. She smelt the alcohol entering through the door and chose the best of bad situations and got a drink heading back outside with Eada following. As Eada and Daisy emerged and sat outside with Jade and Austin they began with Eada reporting types or Grimm commonly known in this area were Beowolves and Ursai.
They thanked Eada for her studying, it was then Eada that pointed to Austin demanding that in return of her doing all the studying that he should play something, not even trying to get out of it he picked up his guitar and started singing his own cover of 'Before the next teardrop falls' the team listened as Austin sung, Jade transfixed on Austin thinking the song was more about her even though he was entertaining the team, Eada listened along and actually didn't mind the song but hadn't really heard it before. Daisy was a little confused though, Austin had a couple glances at her but also at Eada and Jade during the song however she then thought that maybe he did know she was into Jade.
Choosing not to psycho analyze this proved to be the right decision as Austin finished he put his guitar down, putting his feet up and relaxing back in his chair told everyone first song was free the next you'd have to pay up. It got the team to have a little laugh as Jade played along saying Eada wanted the song so she and Daisy were still owed a song. Austin was about to make a comeback but the alarm of the town blared through the relaxation as Austin was first to his feet grabbing Argenti Lustitia. He stood in the doorway throwing a rock at Qrow to get up as the others got their weapons.
The 5 could tell where there was trouble as a herd of Beowolves were attacking the town. Qrow went straight for the Grimm with Austin following as he ordered Austin with him and the other 3 help get the citizens to safety. Jade wasn't used to having someone give the orders but wasn't going to fight them from a Qualified Huntsman even though he smelt like alcohol. Even though she would've sent the 3 to the Grimm and 2 for this type of small population. Qrow and Austin shared a smile as they said "Just like old times" as they both sliced through a Beowolve at the same time and told Austin not to forget his semblance as Austin replied sarcastically asking what his semblance was again, Qrow just rolled his eyes as Austin took the right and he had the left.
While the 3 girls had the crowd under control Jade told Eada to go help Austin and Qrow, Eada took off running joining the fight next to Qrow telling him she could help. Qrow told Eada to back off make sure the citizens were safe. Austin could see Eada was in danger as he started running towards them telling Jade to cover his flank on his scroll. Daisy was left by herself defending the perimeter as Jade took off asking Austin what the matter was. Austin didn't answer as he didn't have time as an Ursa crashed through a home sending debris towards Qrow and Eada. Qrow cut through the falling debris with his scythe.
Eada on the other hand had no idea what was coming as she dodged quickly but into the path of the ursa, using its strength the ursa sent Eada flying a good height in the air landing 10 metres away having her aura buckle. Austin got to Eada's side checking if she was still breathing, she was but out cold and if she suffered any more damage she could die. Qrow had taken on the ursa as Jade and Daisy rushed to Eada's side but the big mistake was all the Grimm leading to them and were about to be overun.
