-Chapter 13- Family visits
In the morning Jade was up early hunting Austin down in the library combing through books as he tried to search for anything related to silver eyes. With no luck so far as he put another book down he saw Jade enter not looking too happy. He sighed and told her he'd meet her on the roof. Jade went there straight away as Austin followed joining her up there asking if they should small talk first or just dive right into it, the look on Jade's face was all seriousness as Austin put his hands up showing he was ok going straight to the serious talk.
Jade began being sympathetic to Austin, how it must've taken a lot of courage to tell Eada the truth but how he didn't need to act in the way he did last night. Austin rolled his eyes telling her Eada started the fight and was only defending himself, Jade continued that it wasn't just the fight and how he had compromised Eada to possibly fall back to her old way of thinking by crapping all over her personal growth.
It was their turn to argue as Austin wouldn't concede but promised not to start anything. It wasn't good enough for Jade as she needed to see both Eada and Austin apologize to each other and start helping her revealing that she's been very concerned on Daisy as not only did Gretchen's death hit Team TGRN hard but also Daisy to. Austin admitted he had seen her take it hard and mentioned that he likes to give people space because if the positions were reversed that's what he'd want.
Jade pressed on saying how everyone is different, they both brought arguments to each other each trying to get their own way but the biggest point Austin came up with was going back to finish the mission solo and how maybe it was being solo that he really shined. Jade stopped and had a thought, if Austin wanted to be solo that badly she then put her hands up surrendering the argument but for one last point she then went onto saying seeing this side of him is making her rethink things about them and asked Austin if they could take a break.
Austin stood there seeing if Jade was bluffing but as she explained how she was trying to keep the team together, helping Daisy, school, training and a relationship on top of all that was too much and promised him it won't be forever as she only needs time to help everyone and think about them. Austin frowned saying how he barely spent time with her anyway which got her defensive as the two argued. Austin got so mad telling Jade to think about 1 more thing, if she really wanted him or if she wanted Daisy as he wasn't stupid and had seen the way Daisy looks at her.
Things get so heated but nobody threw a punch as they had more self control when it came to each other, Jade was hurting that Austin couldn't let her have some time to think and Austin was hurting as he was open and honest to Jade and had tried to accommodate her however he could. They had been together for months and they were bound to have a first fight but there first fight seemed to be their last as they had both realized the same conclusion about having an expiration date.
They continued to talk despite both hurting and perhaps if they gave each other time to calm down they could've sorted it out but they kept talking with both of them agreeing from now on to be team mates only and pretend to be friendly towards each other. Both of them regretted their last interaction as they went there separate ways but too stubborn to go back and apologize. Jade was more interested on caring for her friend Daisy as she thought about what Austin said and tried pictured it for a few minutes before erasing it from her thought, needing to focus on Daisy as a friend right now.
Austin went back to the library to continue studying about his silver eyes. Eada had stared at her scroll all day wandering if she should tell her parents she had found her brother or not. Daisy had spent all the time with Team TGRN ignoring her team which was falling apart just like Team TGRN but despite losing a member they all still cared for each other and as the thoughts about joining their team grew she felt more welcome then her current team, Daisy was only real close with Jade, yes her and Eada were starting anew but would she ever falter back to her old personality?
To top it off Austin was dating her dream girl, well crush but Daisy had tried getting over Jade and couldn't, maybe getting out of Team JADE would be a good thing also thinking the drama that Austin and Eada are somehow brother and sister. She decided she would continue to think about it as it was only a thought right now and she hadn't even been offered to join them and would make sure that they'd want to have her join there team, she couldn't replace Gretchen but maybe a good 4th edition to Team TGRN.
It had been a few weeks, Daisy decided to remain with Team JADE as Team TGRN and herself were on the mend, she had ran the idea by them though but all 3 members told her Team JADE was where she belonged and where she was needed, Jade had helped a lot and now had more time on her hands but Jade and Austin had been avoiding each other. Fooling Eada and Daisy being friends and team mates as they did tell them they were on a break. Austin and Jade knew it was a break up and when together alone they'd often would leave or give each other angry glares or some distasteful comment.
Eada had decided not to tell her parents but the last few weeks had flown by and now her parents were coming to visit for the Vytal Festival which had Eada nervous, Team JADE had entered themselves in the tournament as they had used the last few weeks of their assignments of going into the field. Yes they were somewhat afraid of what could happen going back into the field but all were 100% fit and ready. The team worked well as they impressed different Huntsman week after week and felt ready they could take the challenge.
Since Austin and Jade broke up all Austin had been doing was focusing on himself with his training and studying about his silver eyes, yet to find any answers he was given it tons of energy but made sure to get enough sleep and look after himself. Austin knew Eada's parents were going to be coming and looking at him he didn't seem to care, Jade's parents were visiting from Vale and Daisy had planned with Jade to spend the day with them as her parents wouldn't be around. Jade had tried her best to get Austin to reveal his plans and if his parents would be here but he kept dodging the question.
Austin just kept up a casual attitude saying he would let her know as Jade wanted all parents to meet. A knock on the door got Jade excited opening it up to see her parents, hugging them and brining them into the dorm she introduced Daisy, Eada and then Austin, not mentioning that they previously dated pf course. The usual small talk and then Eada trying to find out any embarrassing stories about Jade as a kid was more than enough for Jade to put her hand over Eada's mouth to keep her quiet.
Jade chose her moment and asked Austin if his parents were on the way as he then said they should be here soon. A knock on the door seemed to be perfect as it was Eada's turn to get up and answer the door, her parents were always known to be on time as they had stood outside the door for exactly 3 minutes as Eada brought them into the dorm introducing them to everyone. They greeted Jade's parents first, shaking Jade's hand excited to meet the leader of their daughter's team.
Eada then introduced Daisy and as Daisy stepped up holding out her hand Eada's father withdrew his hand placing them behind his back and nodding to her. Daisy didn't say anything as she was used to the treatment that people gave her for being a faunus and not wanting to upset Eada or her parents. Eada's father then got introduced to Austin by Eada as he held out his hand, Austin leaned against the wall arms crossed as Eada's father made a slight cough to try get Austin to shake his hand.
Austin looked at his hand and back to him as Eada's father told him that it was rude to not shake someone's hand upon meeting them. Austin nodded and agreed and told him to shake Daisy's hand first then he'd consider shaking his hand. Eada looked at Austin with wide eyes as her Father became mad as he defended himself for not shaking Daisy's hand as she was a faunus. Austin was seething at that comment as he turned to Daisy and apologized for the behaviour he was showing with himself and Eada's father.
Eada's father wasn't impressed with Austin but Austin didn't care as he picked up his weapon stating he was going to go train. Jade tried stopping Austin saying that they were waiting for his parents and all Austin replied was they were already here and with that he left. Jade knew it was best to separate as soon as possible so Eada took her family around the campus showing them everything as Jade and Daisy headed to the arena with Jade's parents. They took some seats as they continued to talk about studying to being Huntresses and Daisy asking about their family business.
Eada brought her parents to the arena with among some other 1st year students with their families as the 4th year students had a training session. Eada and her parents joined as they asked what was happening as Jade informed that with constant training in 4 years we could be as skilled as the students down there. The 4th year students started walking in and Eada's father noticed the one annoying person since being there as he asked Eada why Austin was down there.
Austin was warming up and doing some stretches with some of the other 4th year students as Eada then mentioned that Austin has special permission to join their training classes as he has proven he has the skill and ranked no.1 of the first years in combat. Eada's father looked at his daughter asking why she wasn't down there, Daisy defended herself with an apology and claiming Austin only trains because he has no life and no friends. Jade chose to ignore it but Daisy having enough of this stood up by saying Austin does have friends but actually works, learning and as helped all their training.
Eada's father brushed it off not trusting the word of a faunus as he tells Eada to go down there and challenge Austin to a duel. Eada mentioned she would after the training class hoping her Father could see his skill and change his mind, as the class started Eada's father saw just how talented he was keeping up with people older than him, faster and stronger but believed his daughter could wipe the floor with him. When the class was let up and people started leaving Austin got a drink talking to other 4th year students as Eada approached with her weapon she got from her locker.
She approached Austin and challenged him to a duel as Austin looked at her quizzically as she whispered to let her win as her Father wants to have the Vendetta name prevail as best. Austin not in the mood to please anyone especially her father of all people told her fat chance and if she wanted victory then she needed to beat him as he accepted the duel. Everyone came closer as Daisy smiled knowing Eada was going to lose. Jade was worried that this would start something as Austin and Eada got ready to start. The buzzer sounded as Austin patiently waited for Eada to make the first attack.
Eada's father yelled from the sideline as she waited hoping Austin would strike first, he was getting impatient that she didn't attack which led her to charge in careless with her trident as Austin blocked her attack easily then with a simple flowing movement he disarmed her and swept her legs knocking her to the ground holding his blade to Eada's face asking if she surrendered. Her father shouted from the sidelines saying to never surrender so Austin stepped back picked up Eada's weapon and threw it to her as she got up.
To make it easier for Eada clearly pitying her and her father he threw his weapon out of the arena to Daisy catching it, now he couldn't retrieve his weapon without a ring out. Austin was ready as Eada charged, swiftly dodging and even grabbing onto Eada's weapon and easily disarmed her turning her own weapon to her. Waiting for her to surrender, Eada looked to her Dad and got ready to fight. Austin stabbed the trident into the ground as it remained there and stepped forward to fight Eada with hand on hand combat.
Austin did the attacking first which was unexpected to Eada throwing her off balance as she tried to dodge and parry. About to fall out of the arena Austin grabbed her pulling her back in saying he would win by aura. She charged him first as he caught her arm then flipped her over his body and with force making her land on her back hard depleting her aura as Austin stood up straight and bowed, he helped Eada up as he retrieved his weapon and walked by Eada's father saying next time to do his own dirty work.
Eada's father then stood in front of Austin and said he could take him, Austin nodded and waited for an attack as he then tried to punch Austin, Austin dodged perfectly grabbing his arm and twisted it behind his back, kicking the back of his knee to have him on his knees. Austin then yelled that he would so love to snap his arm but was taught better and let go of his arm. Eada's father stood up and rubbed his arm saying if he was his son then... Austin cut him off saying "You'd abandon me in Vacuo?" Eada stared at Austin in shock along with her Mother and Father...
To be continued...
