-Chapter 14- Family matters

Austin stood there glaring at them, fists clenched as his father looked back at his wife and Eada before turning back. Jade and Daisy took a step back as they looked upon with Jade's parents. Eada looked to her parents asking if it was true, that if they actually abandoned Austin. Her father turned to her saying that of course it was false but Austin shouted out the same thing he said to Eada, "How many Austin's do you know with silver eyes from Vacuo". Edmond and Narissa looked to their daughter as they start trying to defend themselves of their decision.

Eada told her parents that they had much more pressing matters to attend to as she pointed at Austin, the snarl on his face, anger in his eyes. Glaring at them, as they turned and tried to reason with Austin trying to calm him down as they explained how he was affecting the family name, how he trusted faunus. Austin cut him off yelling at his biological parents that faunus could be trusted and in fact were far better then them as they didn't deserve to be called parents in the first place.

Edmond finally stammered out some words trying to remain on top as he asked what type of proof he had about faunus being trustworthy or so called better then them. Austin showed them a picture of his parents, Frank and Helena Avery with a young Austin, the first photo they had taken together which was the day they officially adopted Austin. He continued to tell them the story of when they first found him, how they treated him like their own, they helped teach him with anything they could, cared for him, believed in him and were actual good parents.

Austin was doing his best not to completely lose it revealing his story in front of everyone, about his parent's death. Finally Edmond and Narissa looked at him as they offered to try fix their relationship. Austin couldn't believe what they said declaring that they lost that chance when they abandoned him, that he would never trust them again or actually want to be part of their family ever again. He was an Avery and nothing was going to change that refusing to even acknowledge he was a Vendetta for the first part of his life.

Eada stepped in between Austin and her parents hoping to not start another fight but Austin let his anger go having Edmond and Narissa not worth anymore as he turned around and started walking out of the arena. Everyone watched him go as the room went silent, Jade and Daisy left with Jade's parents as Eada was left alone to talk to her parents. Outside the arena Daisy headed off knowing Jade may need some time to talk to her family, Daisy on the other hand had a similar story of being abandoned when she was young and went to find Austin.

Finding Austin sitting on the edge of the roof looking out to the horizon she calmly walked over and sat next to him staying silent, he knew she was there as Daisy waited patiently for Austin to talk first. After some time Austin looked at Daisy asking if he took things too far, she shook her head and told him he had every right to do so and how she wished that she could have the same closure for her parents as she told Austin about her childhood. The two seemed to form a kinship as they bonded over that.

Daisy told Austin that she had left Eada to talk to her parents and she left Jade alone with hers. The two kept talking as Daisy helped Austin by talking things through and after they talked about his parents Austin returned the favour asking Daisy if she liked Jade. She blushed and looked forward to the horizon but did admit that she couldn't stop thinking about her. Austin had a small smile appear on his face as he nodded, he thanked Daisy for being honest with him then proceeded to give her the best news ever for her.

Telling her that he and Jade were 99% sure that they weren't going to get back together and how he mentioned that she knows that you may like her but probably hold off asking her out for now as apparently she needs time to think. Daisy thanked Austin for the advice however she needed to ask if he knew Jade liked her, Austin could only give her a shrug but did say that he did tell Jade to think about it. Daisy hugged Austin thanking him but most importantly trying to be there for him as she had lost Gretchen and needing to make time for all her friends and not just a select few.

As the two talked Jade and her parents sat down at a table as they made sure if their daughter was alright, she was but thinking of how she could help her whole team get along again especially in combat as they were going to be competing in the tournament the next day for the Vytal Festival. Eada had stayed in the arena with her parents trying to make sense of their reason to abandon Austin and how she learnt to trust faunus ever since arriving in Beacon and how rude her father was when he met Daisy.

It took hours but eventually Eada's parents left to go do business, Eada still loved her parents, her childhood was great, she got everything she wanted but thinking that she got everything at the expense of Austin, she went to go find him hoping that he didn't blame her for anything. Her parents told her the reason for abandoning Austin was he wasn't like them and they could tell he'd ruin the family name. Still a really bad thing to do, just on that alone she could send her parents to prison for admitting they abandoned Austin.

Filed a false missing persons report as they had stated he was missing and each year on the day they hold a charity event for missing people hoping that Austin Vendetta would return, it was all fake, only a way to get PR and pretend to care. As Eada was looking for Austin she kept thinking and remembering last year as they held the charity event as she spoke to Atlas and whoever else was listening in Remnant that she wanted her brother back. Her words were sincere but right after her speech her parents really sold their performance as her Mother was crying while they gave their speech.

It was Edmond that appeared sad but didn't cry as he continued to urge others that have actually lost their family members not to give up hope. Those people actually believed him and are still hoping, stopping in her tracks as she ran into Jade waving her parents goodbye with them promising to be at Amity Arena tomorrow to watch them fight wishing her and her team luck. Jade had a smile on her face, not only did she get to spend time with her parents and gain their advice but also managed to get David and Julie on speaker as she caught up with everyone close to her.

It seemed Jade was the only winner today having a happy reunion despite the drama earlier as Eada walked up to her asking if she knew where Austin was. Jade shrugged, her smile fading at the mention of Austin as he told her that he'd possibly in the library, arena or maybe the tree he keeps sleeping in sometimes. Jade knew Eada needed some company and offered her to help look for him and told her that she'd let them talk when they did find him.

Daisy and Austin had talked, they had gotten a lot off their chests and now they needed to be alone again to reflect, Austin gave Daisy the roof thinking Jade may come up sometime soon and be good for her to find her friend. As he got up he turned to Daisy saying that he was glad they could talk to each other about their parents witch each other and told her that she's welcome around his fire anytime. Austin recognized the confusion on Daisy's face as he explained that it meant she was welcome to talk anytime and literally join his campfire where the expression came from.

Daisy nodded and thanked Austin as he left with a nod leaving her alone looking at the horizon now knowing why Jade loved this spot so much. Jade and Eada searched but couldn't find him, Eada wouldn't give up as Jade gave up and headed back to the dorm while Eada finally thought of the roof wandering why Jade didn't take her there. She walked onto the roof, not finding Austin but finding Daisy staring out the horizon, not to scare her she quietly asked what she was doing as Daisy turned around and claimed she was just thinking.

Eada sighed and asked Daisy if she knew where Austin was, Daisy told her he was here but left not knowing where he was going. Eada was going to leave but stopped herself as she then apologized to Daisy about her family and their behaviour, Daisy smiled and hugged Eada telling her it wasn't necessary however was really happy that Eada didn't still share the view of her family. Eada joined her friend looking at the horizon asking if she should talk to Austin and perhaps apologize.

Daisy thought to herself and just told her Austin didn't seem to care when it came to the Vendetta name but he did care for her, she revealed that they talked to each other whilst being here and if she felt she needed to apologize then it was best to do so. Eada hugged Daisy asking if she could help with anything, Daisy knew what she wanted to ask but couldn't bring herself to however Eada kept prodding and eventually got her to open up promising it would remain between them as Daisy revealed ever since the first day she felt a special connection with Jade.

Eada had no idea thinking that they were just best friends but Daisy told her that she had a crush on her ever since meeting but it felt like more. Daisy mentioned she tried to kiss Tiger before the death of Gretchen and how it didn't happen as she was straight and after Jade informing her of what Tiger told her, facing Eada she then declared that she thinks she is in love with Jade. Eada looked at her slightly worried but happy as she continued somehow knowing Austin would be ok if something started with her and Jade, on the other hand she had no idea what Jade thought.

As Eada comforted Daisy she did say try give it some time and just be there for her as a friend first as she is getting over Austin right now but also focusing on the team. They both agreed that ever since Team TGRN helped them out Jade had been the one to sacrifice everything including her relationship with Austin for the team, the two got up and headed to the dorm feeling better as Daisy thanked Eada for being there for her. It was getting late and they knew they needed to get some sleep for their fight tomorrow in the tournament.

They found Jade back at the dorm studying which was more proof how she was putting the team before herself as she was coming up with strategies, all 3 of them went over the strategies and hoped Austin would be here soon to go over them but just in case they prepared back ups the 3 of them could do. Eventually they couldn't keep waiting on Austin and had to go to bed with Austin not showing up or not at the tree as Jade had a quick look there before returning to her dorm for sleep.

Austin was off the grid after talking to Daisy as he had been approached by Qrow who told him to follow as he led him to the vault under the school. Qrow told Austin automatically to never tell anyone about this place, Austin nodded trusting Qrow as he had already been told everything that is to know. Meeting Professor Ozpin in the vault wasn't a social visit Ozpin and Qrow had begun filling him in on a new threat and Ozpin handed Austin a Huntsman licence stating he would be a qualified Huntsman if he chose to accept.

Austin had a choice to make, would he stay here with his team or head out to help possibly prevent this threat as a fully Qualified Hunstman...

To be continued...
