-Chapter 16- Vytal Festival, 2nd Day
The next morning was like the same, Austin had already arrived at Amity Arena and had been watching the other fights, Jade and Daisy met Jade's parents and Eada met with hers but today she was more nervous as her Father was super quiet which he only got when he expected Eada to do something he wanted. Jade and Daisy wished them luck entering the arena as they were going to sit in the crowd, Eada told her parents she wouldn't let them down and went to find Austin to talk strategy.
She found him loading his weapon with dust cartridges as he was preparing even though they hadn't been announced yet. She sat next to him as they greeted each other with an awkward greeting. The two sat in silence and when Austin finished putting the dust into his weapon that's when Eada spoke up saying her Father is expecting more from her and to do the family name justice. Austin looked at Eada basically asking if she was serious, he didn't want to help him at all but he did want the win, maybe he could find a way to help himself and Eada.
Austin admitted he thought of multiple strategies and believed one would work as students from the other schools only saw the first fight and think that they're only a team of individuals who got lucky. Austin then suggested to play that card once again as teams would be expecting that filling in Eada on his plan. Jade and Daisy took their seats next to Jade's parents and in the front row was Eada's parents. When there fight was announced Austin and Eada walked into the arena looking at each other like they had been fighting.
Nobody could tell what they were saying to each other but it was clear it wasn't a conversation of enthusiasm or encouragement as it looked like they were snapping at each other, unable to agree with each other or willing to work together. The duo on the other team looked at each other and smirked as they thought this would be easily in the bag as they had their act together and used team work. As the competitors were introduced Austin and Eada still looked to be arguing and not paying attention to their surroundings.
Jade and Daisy looked at each other not surprised one bit by the way they were acting but shocked as they were supposed to be representing the school, Team JADE and becoming future Huntsmen, the commentators were having a field day with Austin and Eada's constant arguing. Throughout the crowd people began to talk and the talk wasn't positive, mortified Jade put her head in her hands asking herself what she had done. Daisy and her parents comforted her as Edmond was watching in disdain.
Eada could feel her Father's glare upon her without even needing to look but she kept arguing with Austin, as the buzzer signaled the match to begin the duo kept arguing, a couple of times pointing at which person they would take. The two on the other team were ready and unsure if they should attack as they wanted to fight somewhat fairly. They stepped closer, inching their way towards their opponents, the crowd begun to boo trying to let them know they wanted to see a fight and not some drama.
Eada and Austin were getting more rowdy convincing everyone in the arena that it was a bad choice to put these two in a competition let alone a team atmosphere and would be unlikely to become Huntsmen. The two on the other team, 1 of the girls drew her battle axe while the other girl pulled a tab on her jacket igniting it with dust as she had threaded dust into her clothes to help with her attacks. The two looked at the booing crowd seeing if it would be right to just attack and give the crowd what they wanted.
As the two girls looked to the crowd Eada gave the signal as the two stopped arguing on the spot and dashed to the two girls with their weapons at the ready. By the time the two saw them coming it was too late as Austin and Eada worked together keeping their opponents off balance and depleting their aura, relying on each other and working together. They had begun to a rhythm going as Austin blocked and Eada came in from the side, the two girls were totally taken aback by the performance Eada and Austin were giving.
To end the match Austin and Eada charged as the girls got ready to counter the attack, the one with dust in her clothing launched some in front of them to shroud them in a cloud of dust. Austin stopped and got to his knee preparing to firehis weapon as Eada stared into the mist, just as she thought they were standing where they were before creating the dust cloud. They clearly thought they were safe and would have the upper hand. Eada pointed to where she wanted Austin to fire a big blast of dust and trusting her word he didn't hesitate as he fired off a shot instantly.
The blast connected with the girl wielding the battle axe sending her to the ground with her aura depleted eliminating her from the contest. Eada and Austin ran into the mist that hadn't cleared, Eada was leading with Austin right on her tail, the girl knew an attack was coming, seeing Eada fast approach her she prepared a counter attack but unexpectedly Eada jumped to the left, as the other girl thought she was going to attack from her side Austin came charging through using his mace and depleting the rest of her aura with the one and final hit.
The victors were declared as Austin and Eada high fived each other, Jade just sat there staring at the two, Daisy had made her look at her team as they quickly got the upper hand and obviously were pretending to be fighting with each other letting the guard of the other team down giving them a much easier opening. The crowd cheered as they got a good fight after all despite it being one sided but nobody could've said that they'd see that coming. The commentators were quite impressed as the 2nd day in a row Team JADE pulled off an unexpected win.
Edmond remained stoic but was impressed with his daughter, his attention was taken off Eada and had returned to staring down Austin who ignored him as the duo reunited with their team as they gave high fives with congratulations. Daisy and Jade just had to ask what type of plan was that and Eada shrugged telling them to ask Austin. Everyone faced Austin as he then explained it was all a tactic to drop the other team's guard and make them think they weren't a threat they were expecting.
Austin smirked, he had everything in control and knew if somehow the other team got the upper hand he would've prevailed anyway, he got up though saying he was getting some food but actually went to re-watch their fight and see if he could have anything to improve on. Daisy met up with Team TGRN as Eada and Jade spent more time with their parents, after reviewing his footage Austin returned to Amity arena to watch the other fights hoping his team would pick him for the solo competitions and seeing if he could work out a 3rd time to throw other students off.
Daisy joined Team TGRN's movie night, they made sure to watch the movies Gretchen had on her list somehow getting the feeling she was there with them in the room, Daisy felt it to as the 4 friends held the movie night for the first time since Gretchen's death. The 4 girls enjoyed themselves, talking amongst each other helped them all even in the slightest way. As Daisy watched movies with Team TGRN she couldn't help but think of Gretchen, Team TGRN really cared for her and Gretchen had even asked her brother to help find her when she missed the last Airship that one time.
While Daisy was with Team TGRN for the night Eada had to farewell her parents as they couldn't stay away from Atlas for more than a couple of days as they left, Eada and Jade spent the night in the Dorm helping each other study and talking to each other. Jade checked in on Eada to see if she had any problems and she revealed that her and Austin seemed fine but was now worried that Jade hadn't been hanging out with Austin as much. Explaining that taking a break does consider an x amount of time apart but they were still team mates.
Eada asked if everything was ok between them, if something happened or if she liked someone else. Jade's eyes widened in shock as Eada guessed away, she had blushed at the mention of liking someone else which had Eada think that was the case as she tried to get the details of who Jade liked. Jade stammered back trying to convince Eada that she hadn't thought about another person but had learnt that someone liked her romantically. Eada could tell there was some truth to what Jade just stated but had the feeling she was hiding something.
Not wanting to scare Jade off she loosened up telling her that she didn't have to confide in her but to make sure to confide in someone, not being close with Austin anymore she suggested that Jade could always turn to Daisy. Jade blushed a little once again, looking away which gave Eada a pretty good idea of what Jade might be thinking. Jade tried her best to turn things around asking Eada who she was interested in only to be given a shrug from Eada stating she hadn't found interest in anyone ever since arriving.
It was 100% true that Eada didn't fancy anyone, she had entered the school as a spoilt brat and thought everyone was under her, she had introduced herself to a lot of people and avoided ones she didn't think worthy and with that as her reputation she couldn't imagine people liking her. With the help of her team and recently discovered brother she had changed for the best but once you've made a first impression you can't make another. Jade hugged Eada apologizing for not picking up on how Eada may have been feeling all this time.
With that Jade started to confide in Eada telling her that things with Austin were only team orientated. Explaining their last interaction and how they hurt each other, wishing she could take it back at times, thinking it had to be said and now they're only working together as a team and in a group they're pretending to be fine, pretending to be happy spending time together but the actual truth was they couldn't be in the same room together alone. Jade sat on her bed looking out the window telling Eada that she now thinks Austin hates her.
Eada shocked to see a great friendship turned romance could end like this, she waved her hand in front of Jade's face to get her to look at her. Eada leant down and looked Jade in the eye stating seriously that Austin doesn't hate her, she knew the look of hatred on Austin's face and whenever he looked at Jade, even recently there wasn't a single shred of hatred in his eyes. Jade smiled having been reassured as Eada tried to brighten the mood as she reminded Jade when they first met that Austin hated her.
Jade's smile faltered but Eada continued to reassure everything was fine with her and Austin, it was only dramatic when her parents were here. Eada laid on her bed relieved her parents had gone home hoping Austin would come back to the dorm and maybe things could return to normal. Jade then asked Eada would it be her or Austin advancing to the singles round tomorrow, Eada looked at Jade and said it would be Austin without a doubt knowing Austin could run circles around her and pretty much almost everyone at Beacon no matter what year level they were in.
Jade nodded in agreement, she truly missed Austin but being stubborn as they were it didn't look like they would patch up this small feud just yet, Jade then told herself to let Austin focus on the Vytal Festival then after that she would find the best time to apologize, hopefully Austin would've had some more time to calm down and if he won the tournament then maybe he'd be in a better mood. Looking at the remaining contestants though it could potentially be a tall order. The two girls stayed up hoping Austin would return but by the time they went to bed there was no sign of him.
To be continued...
