-Chapter 17- Vytal Festival, 3rd Day
The third day was on, the tournament was producing some amazing 1 on 1 fights, skilled combatants had been testing each others limits all day and now it was Austin's turn. Edmond had called Eada demanding that she should fight instead of Austin but Eada for once told her Father that it was the team's decision and had to go as she joined Daisy and Jade in the crowd. Jade's parents sat behind them as Austin walked into the arena looking as relaxed as ever and somehow carrying himself like he wasn't taking this seriously.
His opponent, a 1st year student from Mistral on the other hand stood at 6'3, huge muscles and wielded a gigantic scythe looking sharp enough to cut through steel like a butter knife cutting a banana and solid to flatten anything into a pancake. The two stood face to face and for the first time in a fight Austin pulled out a new tactic nobody had ever seen him do or even imagine he would try it as he stuck his tongue out, tormenting his opponent by putting on a 1 star performance comedy act in front of him instead of his usual silent and focused demeanor.
Even before the buzzer started the fight Austin had dropped his weapon and was already doing backflips and still acting incredibly like a dunce. When the buzzer did go off the other guy charged as Austin was doing a handstand, Austin remained in the handstand to the last second as he let himself fall to the ground sticking his legs in the air and with his opponent's increased momentum and size it was difficult for him to stay up as he fell forward and out the ring declaring Austin the victory in mere seconds and making a new record with the fastest victory.
The crowd cheered but were a little disappointed as they did want to see a good fight as Austin helped the other guy up and they both shook hands as they began talking to each other as they left the arena. Austin gave him the advice that strength wasn't everything as he obviously won by getting on his nerves and when he rushed in was his biggest mistake. Going on how the mind was how all fights are won saying he might've had a fair shot not rushing in all the time. The other guy thanked him as he left to his team as Jade, Eada and Daisy went to congratulate Austin.
They found Austin analyzing the board to see who his next opponent was and already had a couple of plans to take out the next person. Jade stopped in her tracks seeing his face as he looked to be in a focused mindset right now but Eada and Daisy came in to his side as they put their arms on his shoulder and leant on him congratulating him on a good job. Austin just stood there shaking his head saying he hadn't won yet but thanked them anyway. Eada then had to know how he had come up with that idea.
Austin knew Jade was behind him but told Eada and Daisy like Jade wasn't even there that he had watched the other matches and he had seen the guy with a short temper and the need to compete serious so annoying him was his best option but did mention he had a couple of back up plans that he wouldn't reveal as it may help him in his future fights and didn't want anyone overhearing just in case they were his opponent. Austin made sure to remember the time of his next fight and left to get some food.
As Austin left Jade, Daisy and Eada looked at each other concerned that Austin hadn't been acting like his usual self, Eada's parents had left so he should be happy and even sleeping in the dorm as the whole team was getting along once again. Jade mentioned though he may be taking the break up a bit more hard but they all disagreed to that thinking Austin was just anxious to compete in the next fight and just needed to focus on that for now. They decided to leave him be as they went to the fairground with Jade's parents before his next match.
The girls had fun trying to win prizes as Daisy spent most of her time at a claw machine while Eada and Jade challenged each other to rounds of many festival games trying to be better than the other while Jade's parents rode the Ferris Wheel and walked around the fairgrounds. Daisy had finally gotten what she wanted and looked at the time shocked to see that Austin's fight was starting in 5 minutes, quickly pulling out her scroll calling Jade she started to run back to Amity Arena. Jade and Eada followed suit as Jade messaged her parents.
They got to the arena at the end of the match as Austin was walking off the arena floor, they looked at the destruction that was made and looked at each other asking if it was Austin that made all that destruction or the other guy who Austin just won against. Despite not seeing the fight they headed to Austin and congratulated him once again as he sat down and had a fresh drink. Daisy looked at the board seeing Austin was now to compete for the win or become runner up, they looked at Austin as he revealed that they had missed two of his fights beforehand.
Daisy, Jade and Eada were about to jump in and apologize but Austin put his hand up to speak. Telling them that the final match starts in 30 minutes and all members have to be in the arena before the main fight as they'll present both teams telling them that they need to be here for this one. They nodded and told him they weren't going to go anywhere and once again tried to apologize but he brushed it off as he sat back and relaxed thinking the 10 minute mark would be best to start warming up and would be best to remain focused.
Even though he did relax he stayed in the moment, focused and warmed up like he planned, the 30 minutes had gone by surprisingly quick as Team JADE walked out into the arena against Team REDD (Red). Team REDD were 4th year students from Atlas Academy up against the 1st year students of Beacon Academy, Diamond which was Team REDD's best fighter stepped forward as Austin did, the other members left the stage as Diamond and Austin shook hands as the commentators announced the final match.
The buzzer sounded and Diamond wielded a battle axe and shield. For once Austin was the first person to run forward for an attack, cocky Diamond got ready flattening her shield and prepared to fire a round of dust at the charging opponent. Austin had timed it perfectly as Diamond was about to fire he ran to the left but then performed a somersault to throw off Diamond's aim as she shot the dust missing Austin. Trying once again failed as Austin shot off a few pot shots at Diamond making her block them with her shield. Austin got closer and close combat was now the strategy at play.
Diamond had a massive defense perimeter while Austin was powerful on his attack and speed, it came down to who made a mistake first or the first one to wear out. Throughout all his fights Austin had managed not to reveal his semblance to anyone but he knew Diamond's semblance called Luminescence which lets her shoot a flash of light from her hand blinding an opponent. Austin had first seen it watching her previous match, nobody in the crowd could tell as she used it at the right time on her shiny shield so everyone thought it was the sun's reflection.
It was how she got her win, Austin knew to look out for it as the fight continued nobody took a hit as each strike was dodged or parried, nobody had used their semblance, Austin had trained a lot with Qrow so for him to start using his semblance would have to equal the Grimm horde they encountered on their first field mission. Eventually Diamond was the first to show a little bit of stamina loss so smirking to herself she used her semblance as it blinded Austin and opened Austin up for an attack as she used her shield to send him back a couple of metres and land on his back.
Austin flipped up as Diamond asked him if he wanted to surrender, certain she was going to win being a 4th year student and had successfully used her semblance on a clueless first year. She was actually beginning to tire and if she was playing poker than they'd call it a bluff as she tried to continue on talking so she could hold the fight in her control as she begun to spout off about why he should surrender. Austin knew this was a trick and knew Diamond was only talking to regain her breath which Austin didn't allow.
He shot dust from his weapon having Diamond off guard he had landed a critical hit and ran to her with his eyes shut as he got close she recovered and tried using her semblance right in his face but with Austin's eyes shut he didn't get effected by it and landed another successful strike with his weapon. Diamond had dropped her shield as Austin began fighting her with his two blades extended as she did her best with her battle axe. From what the crowd could tell Austin had his eyes shut the whole time but he quickly opened them between moves to see Diamond's actual position.
He kept the assault up and without her shield Diamond was starting to falter as she tried a last ditch effort throwing her axe at Austin. With his eyes shut he didn't see it coming however was very lucky her aim was off as the axe skimmed past his head only a couple of inches away from his ear and that's when Austin kept the attack up and eliminated Diamond as her aura was depleted. The whole arena went in an uproar as Jade, Daisy and Eada jumped up from their seats hugging each other before sprinting to the arena as Austin opened his eyes when he was announced victor.
He looked to the screen announcing the winner of the tournament was Team JADE, he put down his weapon as the rest of his team practically jumped into his arms as they celebrated. Austin did manage to go congratulate Diamond on a good contest before going back to the celebrations, Professor Ozpin stood with Austin as Beacon were the winners this year being presented with a trophy that Austin and Ozpin held together with the rest of Team JADE. Their photo was taken and before too long the celebrations died down.
That night there was a party thrown in the Great Hall in celebration of Team JADE's victory, Not all of Team JADE was in attendance as Austin wasn't basically seen, Eada and Jade spent most of their time together as Jade wasn't a party person and Eada was used to classy get togethers. Daisy spent time with Team TGRN and even joined them leaving the party early but she had stopped by her dorm though.
Going to Jade's bed she then left a teddy bear holding a heart by her pillow which she had spent a lot of time trying to win at the claw machine with her patience and persistence paying off , now the question was if Jade would like it? Or if she knew who it was from?
