The final three tributes stood on top of the Cornucopia. Mutts snapped at their heels, hungry for blood. Panem watched with bated breath, unsure of who will claim the Victory.
Cato held Peeta Mellark in a headlock, body armor protecting him from Katniss Everdeen's deadly arrows. He laughed at her, pointing out if she shot him, Peeta would fall with him. Katniss was tense, bow and arrow drawn, unwilling to sacrifice her partner.
Peeta lifted his hand, drawing a bloody X on Cato's hand. He caught her eye. Shoot.
Katniss took a deep breath and let the arrow fly, her aim true. The arrow landed in his hand, and Cato shouted in pain, releasing Peeta from his grip. He lost his balance, reaching for something, anything, to steady him. To Katniss's horror, he latched onto Peeta, pulling him down with Cato.
The boys fell to the mutts, landing heavily. The air rushed from their lungs, and the wolves descended on them. They screamed. Katniss ran to the edge of the Cornucopia, nearly tripping over the edge herself. Her heart was in her throat as they tried to fight them off, but before long, the mutts had the upper hand. Katniss did not let them suffer long, firing her last arrows into the heap as the mutts begin to ravage them. Two cannons fired in succession.
Katniss won the 74th Annual Hunger Games, alone. She left her star-crossed lover in the arena.
The next year, she was Reaped again. Katniss Everdeen and her partner, Haymitch Abernathy, ventured into the Quarter Quell together. Haymitch died shortly after the Bloodbath. Katniss perished in a fight with Brutus, placing eighth. Finnick Odair from District Four won the 75th Annual Hunger Games.
Without a spark, there were no flames. Without Katniss, there was no rebellion. The Games continued on.
*Welcome to my first SYOT in a gosh darn while! I'm so excited to be back. The tribute form is on my profile- first come, first serve. Any unfilled spots will be bloodbaths. I look forward to receiving your tribute submissions!
