Chapter 1

Alastor POV: I had been out cold and recovering in the Xiao-Long household for a week while my wounds healed. It was early in the morning when I awoke to find that my wounds had been dressed recently and I had been moved to a strange room of some sort. I sat up slowly and winced slightly. "damn it. That hurts." I exclaimed quietly. "ah your awake." a voice sad from the corner. I couldn't quite see who the voice belonged to because it was dark in the room and my eyes were still adjusting. "and who the hell are you?" I asked as I held my side and sat up. "I just so happen to be the man you were looking for when you arrived here." the man in the shadows said before taking a sip of coffee from his mug. "Ozma?" I asked. "you are correct. But may I ask how you know my real name?" he asked me. "I know your name because you and I have someone in common." I replied. "oh? And who might that be?" ozma asked me. "you should already know the answer to that old man. Salem."

just then another person entered the room. It was a young woman in a red and black combat outfit who looked almost like corrupted rose. I grabbed my weapon from the stand next to me and pointed at her. "how did you find me summer?!" I yelled before grabbing my side in pain. "s-summer? My mom's been dead since I was 3." the young girl replied in fear. "mom? What do you mean by that? I've known summer my whole life and she never mentioned having kids to me." I said while holding my side. "h-how do you know my mom?" the young girl asked me. "what do you mean how do I know her? I'm her adopted older brother and her commanding officer." I replied. "commanding officer? Do you mean to say that summer was a Grimm ranger?" ozma asked.

"I'm not saying she was. I'm saying she is. Or at least she used to be until she betrayed us." I replied. "so- you're saying my mom... is alive?" the girl asked with tears forming in her eyes. "your mom is alive. But I wouldn't call the thing she has become human anymore." I replied while shifting my weight in order to not aggravate my wounds. "so, my theory is correct. Summer rose is this corrupted rose you spoke of." ozma said before getting up to comfort the girl. "it'll be alright ruby. We will find her and we will do whatever we can to reverse whatever has happened to her." he said comfortingly to the crying girl.

Just then another girl and an older man walked into the room and noticed the girl that I know as ruby crying into ozmas' shoulder. "what the hell did you do to my sister?!" the blonde girl yelled at me. "nothing. I simply told them the identity of who corrupted rose is." I replied trying not to get punched in the face. "then who is this corrupted rose?" the blonde older man asked me. "you wouldn't believe me if I told you tai." the man, that I would later find out was named Oscar, holding ruby exclaimed. "try me." the tall blonde man replied. "it's my adopted sister and ex-second in command, summer rose." I replied before the man holding ruby could respond. The blonde girl simply stopped in her tracks and looked at me confused and with tears in her eyes. "t-that's impossible. Mom's been dead since I was a kid." the blonde girl, I would find out was named yang, said while crying. "it's the truth. My sister is alive. And is corrupted rose. She betrayed us and killed everyone but I barely escaped. It's how I got all these injuries."I said as I pointed towards my wounds.

"..." tai was speechless staring at me. "then why did summer never mention you?" a voice said from behind tai. "Branwen. What are you doing here?" I said as I recognized the voice coming from behind tai. "it's good to see you too al. And for your information these are my nieces." qrow said as he walked into the room. "wait, Qrow. How do you know him?" tai asked him. "because I used to work alongside him every once in a while. The last time I saw him was before the Vytal festival all those years ago." Qrow replied. They all looked at him before looking back at the half-Grimm. "so, al, what happened to you man? Last time I saw you, you weren't like this. You weren't a half-Grimm. So, what happened? What did your mom do to you out there?" Qrow asked before taking a swig from his flask. "all I can say is I went through hell qrow. The great war was nothing compared to what she did to me." I replied.

"the great war ended over 100 years ago. How could have possibly been there?" yang asked. "it's simple. I'm sure you are all aware of the story of the four maidens and ozma and Salem." they all nodded. "well, there is something jinn never told you about." I replied. "well, I am the something she never told you about, because I asked her never to tell anyone about my existence." I went on to say. "so, you're saying you told jinn never to mention you?" ruby asked. "yes. Because it was a cautionary step in my operations. You see. In order for me to operate needed knowledge of our existence to be erased. So, I asked jinn to erase all knowledge of my existence in order to protect myself and my operations as a ranger." I explained. They all looked at me with confusion. "you see, I'm the fifth maiden. The fifth child of Salem and Ozma." I explained.

"if you're my son then why did I not know of your existence?" Ozma asked. "that's because I was born 9 months after the death of my sisters." I replied. "I worked for my mother while secretly running the rangers behind her back until she found out about my "side activities" and beat me, when summer found me beaten and abused after I escaped, she adopted me as her brother and fixed me up, this was back before she started training to become a huntress." I explained. "woah. I knew Salem was bad but I never thought she would use her own kid as a weapon." ruby exclaimed. "yea I'm just glad we beat her all those years ago." yang pointed out. "you beat her? How?" I asked. "I beat her. Using my silver eyes and my team." ruby replied with a triumphant smile. "I'm impressed kid. Not many could stand against my mom and survive, let alone win. You would make a fine ranger." I complimented her. what I would tell them next would change their lives forever.
