Klaus was roaming the streets of the city that he had built along with his siblings. His home, a kingdom of which he was the king. Hands tucked in the pockets of his jacket, Klaus just kept on walking without a destination in his mind trying to distract his mind off the nagging feeling that was clawing his insides making him so restless that he had lost all his control in the past few days. And that was the one thing that he hated the most - losing control. He needed a distraction, an inspiration to do something else other than draining humans off their blood which is why he was wandering around the city along a few of his trusted soldiers.

They maintained a distance, far enough to not disturb him but close enough to hold him down in case he decided to go on a killing spree again. Lightly humming under his breath, Klaus kept on walking looking for his distraction. He only stopped when he felt a hand clutch onto the fabric of his jacket. Turning around he found a girl, no more than 10 years old, smiling up at him. She was a beautiful child; fair skin, auburn hair, hazel eyes and a very contagious smile.

Klaus couldn't help but smile in return, "Hello, child." he said curious about what the child needed from him. Had it been anyone else, an adult to be precise, Klaus would have pushed them away, hurt them even. But this was just a child and it was one of his rules that no child shall be harmed.

"It must hurt." the child began causing Klaus's eyes to narrow.

"What?" he asked.

The girl tugged at his left arm pulling his hand out of his jacket's pocket and held onto it. Her small and delicate hand holding onto his big one caused a wave of warmth to spread through his body, "It's so dark. It must hurt." she muttered, her gaze unfocused.

Klaus frowned and crouched down so that his face was on same level as the little girl's. He felt his soldiers close in but he didn't care, his complete attention on the girl in front of him. "There is so much darkness inside and around you and it causes you fear and pain."

"I fear no one, child." Klaus responded with a scoff.

The girl just grinned in response and continued, "You don't have to be afraid anymore because the light is coming. They told me about you and the angel that is going to help you, heal you, love you. Her light will make the darkness and go away and you will no longer be in pain. She will come."

Klaus felt confused about the child's words but she just giggled, kissed him on the cheek and then ran away leaving behind a very confused and surprised Niklaus Mikaelson.

It was when Elizabeth 'Liz' Forbes was giving her newborn baby girl a bath that she noticed the birthmark behind her neck. A spiral of some sorts, two of them actually. There, behind her daughter Caroline's neck, in the middle of it, thin black lines were twisted into two spirals connected to each other. It was such a weird birthmark, unique, and almost like a tattoo. Concerned that it might be some kind of genetic condition that she had read about during her pregnancy, Liz immediately called up her doctor and sent her the pictures of Caroline's birthmark.

Only after the doctor assured her that this wasn't something to be concerned about that Liz's fears were eased and she felt relieved. But what she didn't know was that this wasn't just a unique birthmark, the double spiral symbol held greater meaning which she was unaware of.

A double spiral represents the balance between two opposing forces. Birth and death, creation and destruction, light and darkness, that exist in balance.

Liz didn't know what the future has in store for her precious daughter. Caroline was born for such great purposes and held so much power in her tiny body that Liz couldn't even comprehend. Powers that Caroline began using since she was born but had no control over. Caroline's parents, her friends and everyone else failed to observe the magic that was happening around them, as to how the nature responded to Caroline.

Bonnie and Elena didn't notice that when they were playing with Caroline in the flower field at the age of 5 that the flower buds started blooming fully even when it wasn't spring season.

At the age of 7, as little Caroline cried because her parents were continuously fighting and ignoring her, the nature cried along her. That was the time when it rained so much in Mystic Falls that the streets were flooded out.

Then it was on her 12th birthday when she found out that her Dad had cancelled their plan of an outing because his partner's daughter was sick, Caroline had gotten so angry that it caused the temperature to rise at a greater degree. That day was recorded as the hottest day in the winter season so far.

Even Caroline failed to notice her powers. It was when she was 14 years old and had gone for a summer camp with Elena and Bonnie. There were students from other schools as well. It happened when she noticed that a group of girls from some other school were harassing her best friend Bonnie at the lakeside. Caroline rushed towards them, continuously glaring at the mean girls. And then, it happened.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a strong gush of wind was felt. It was so strong that the mean girls were thrown off balance and fell into the lake. "Serves them right." Caroline had chuckled, calming down as she helped Bonnie stand up.

And then, at the age of 16, when Caroline was expressing her sadness of being rejected and of being a second choice for everybody to Bonnie that the temperature fell, a chilly breeze was felt and all the plants at the diner withered completely.

Another thing that they all were unaware of was that there was another baby, just another girl whose birthmark, fate and powers were exactly the same as Caroline's.

Born a few months later after Caroline's birth, another baby girl had the exact same birthmark as Caroline's and at the exact same position. It was her elder brother Jay who noticed the birthmark the day his baby sister was brought home from the hospital.

The little babe was immediately rushed back to the hospital for a detailed check up and after doing a series of tests the doctors had declared that there was nothing wrong with the baby. But the parents were still concerned because they had never seen or heard about such detailed and precise birthmark. Moreover, it didn't look like a birthmark. It looked like a tattoo and it was obviously strange that a baby was born with such a mark on its body.

It was 12 days after the baby girl's birth that a naming ceremony was held. The Kapoor family had organized a simple ceremony that only the family members attended. A priest was invited to conduct the ceremony and also draw a horoscope chart for the little princess. The priest also noticed the unique birthmark on the baby girl's neck and after studying her horoscope he could tell that the tiny babe was special.

The baby was named Samara.

Samara Kapoor was the youngest and the only girl child in the Kapoor. Her parents and two elder brothers doted on her completely and loved her unconditionally. She was the family's princess. And just like the priest had predicted, Samara was a special child that had really special abilities of which nobody was aware of. The magic was there but nobody thought that Samara was the source of it and all the events went unnoticed.

It started when Samara was 3 years old. Some of the plants in their backyard had withered and Samara didn't like how they looked, dry and sad. She had tenderly touched them with the thought of wanting to see them happy and alive again. And that's what happened. Her thoughtful touch had revived those dead plants.

Then at the age of 5, Samara was kidnapped and a few hours later, rescued by a stranger whose brooch ended up in Samara's possession. That night Samara was made to sleep with her parents but the even the safety of her parents arms didn't help the nightmares go away. She had gotten up silently and went back to her room. Taking out her rescuer's brooch from the drawer of her desk, Samara then went to sleep on her own bed holding the brooch securely in her fists. And after that she wasn't plagued by the nightmares.

She was 7 years old when she found an injured bird in the park where she was playing with her friends. She brought the bird home and cleaned the bird's wound using water thinking that by doing so its wound would heal. Nobody was around to witness the miracle that happened next. As Samara gently washed the bird's wound started healing. And just a few minutes later, the bird that was close to its death was now flying as if it had never been mortally wounded.

Once in school when Samara was 10 years old, a rival classmate had snatched her brooch. The infinity symbol brooch that was not only a souvenir of her rescuer but also her security blanket. That was the first time Samara had gotten really angry for she was extremely possessive of that brooch. What happened next was that that girl felt hot burning pain in the fist that was clenching onto Samara's brooch. Screaming, she threw away the brooch and ran away.

The scariest experience of her life was when she was 15. A senior at her school had kidnapped her and brought her to a secluded cottage in the forest. It was because she had rejected him multiple times when he had asked her to be his girlfriend. He was trying to force himself upon her and Samara was trying to push him away. It happened then.

She felt great amounts of energy blast through her hands as she pushed the guy off her. The energy blast was so much powerful that the guy actually flew a feet above the ground before crashing down at a distance. He hit his hard on a huge rock and fell unconscious as Samara ran away. And this incident became the reason for the Kapoor's to secretly send Samara away from San Jose and to Mystic Falls to stay with her aunt.

Present Time

He mostly never slept. It wasn't much of a requirement for the thousand year old vampire-werewolf hybrid. Moreover, whenever he slept it was always plagued by nightmares. Darkness, blood, fire, pain and destruction was all that a sleep offered. Tonight when he had succumbed to sleep after days of exhaustion, Klaus was once again hit by the similar nightmares that have been haunting him from the past millennium. But it ended differently.

It started off with the horrible memory of him waking up after his mother had cast that immortality spell. He found himself, blood around his mouth and all over his clothes, standing atop a number of dead bodies. Blood was still flowing down through the wounds on the bodies of all the people he had killed. Everything was colored in shades of grey and red. A heart-wrenching scream escaped his lips and then he saw it.

It was just a spark before it exploded into a huge wave of light. An array of colors shined brightly, something he had never seen before. A strange warmth enveloped him as he began walking closer and closer to the wave of light. It felt as if he was being healed. And then he heard the words that have been told to him years ago.

You don't have to be afraid anymore because the light is coming.

He didn't stop walking towards the enchanting light. It gave him what he was craving for. Peace. The light called out to him, removed the darkness that surrounded him. Goosebumps rose on his skin as something overwhelming engulfed him in its embrace.

They told me about you and the angel that is going to help you, heal you, love you.

He found her in the middle of it. She was standing there with her back towards him. It appeared as if she was the source of all the light that now surrounded him. She didn't have those angels like wings but to him she appeared no less than one. His angel was dressed in a long, white colored, sleeveless dress. Her long blonde hair fell below her hips in curly waves. Her mere presence was healing him of all the wounds, of all the pain he had suffered through. He felt something utterly positive envelope him.

Her light will make the darkness and go away and you will no longer be in pain. She will come.

Klaus kept on walking forward until he was standing near his angel of light. Once there he fell on his knees, "You came." the words left his lips like a sacred prayer.

"You came." he repeated and raised his head to look up at her wanting to see her face. But he wasn't able to as the moment he looked up all he saw was blinding light and then he woke up.

Klaus sat up on his bed gasping for air. Covered in cold sweat, he found his dead heart pounding hard and loud like kettledrums. Unfocused eyes moved around taking in the surroundings, his body shuddered because of the shock that he just experienced. He could still feel the warmth that he felt in his dream; there were some traces of it in his body like some leftovers. Running a hand through his hair, Klaus hopped off the bed and got rid of his shirt that was now drenched in his sweat.

With the desire of immortalizing his dream, Klaus rushed upstairs to his studio. After so long he finally got an inspiration to paint something new, something about light and not the darkness.

She felt guilty.

Caroline was avoiding and ignoring her best friend Elena and was feeling extremely guilty about it because she knew that it wasn't Elena's fault. She just couldn't help but feel envious of Elena who was always the first choice of the guys she felt liking towards. Elena was loved and cared for in a way that Caroline has only dream about and never really felt. That's why she has always been jealous of Elena but had never let it affect their friendship. Until Stefan.

His blatant rejection of her hit hard. Forget about being second to Elena, for him she wasn't even a choice. It felt as if someone had just stabbed a knife in her heart; the pain unbearable. It's been days since that happened and still she felt the pain burn her heart. She tried to not let it strain her friendship with Elena but every time she saw her friend, Caroline was reminded of Stefan's words. Elena's ignorance of her feelings wasn't helping either so Caroline decided that it was best to avoid Elena till for the time being.

That's why she chose to sit in one of the seats in the first row instead of her usual seat in the middle one. A part of her felt extremely guilty for doing so but she knew that she needed this alone time to sort her thoughts and nurse her broken heart.

"Good morning everybody!" greeted Alaric Saltzman, the history teacher diverting Caroline's attention from her thoughts.

"We have a new student joining us today. Welcome to Mystic Falls High School, Miss Samara Kapoor." said Alaric while gesturing towards the new girl who was standing beside him.

Caroline couldn't help but stare at the new girl. She was wearing a simple outfit that comprised of skinny blue jeans, a black off the shoulder top and white shoes. Her long black hair were tied up in a high pony tail and the only jewelry she was wearing were the diamond studs in her ears, an infinity brooch pinned on her top and a charm ring in her index finger. Her face was devoid of any make-up except for the black kohl outlining the waterline of her absolutely gorgeous amber colored eyes. Overall she looked simply gorgeous and cute especially because she had those chubby cheeks that you would want to pinch.

There was something about this new girl – Samara, that Caroline was feeling connected to her as if she knew Samara from before. And something told her that she wasn't the only one feeling this connection because Samara's gaze was focused on her as well. Her lips curved upwards in a soft smile and Caroline couldn't help but return the gesture with a smile of her own.

After a brief introduction, Samara occupied the seat adjacent to Caroline's and muttered a "Hi!" in a soft and shy tone.

Caroline smiled, "Hello!" she greeted back, "My name's Caroline. Would you like me to give you a tour after the school's over?" she asked.

Samara nodded in positive before saying, "Yes. Thank you." There was this instant connection between them that Samara couldn't describe. She wanted to know more about the other girl and see if they could be friends.

"Let's meet up here after classes." suggested Caroline to which Samara responded with an "Okay."

Elena was watching the two girls interact with sad eyes. She didn't know what had happened but from the past few days Caroline was avoiding her. She tried talking to her, ask her as to what exactly was wrong but Caroline would always make an excuse and escape the confrontation. They had been best friends since they were toddlers and now that her best friend was ignoring her while being friendly to this new girl, Elena felt saddened.

Attuned to Elena's feelings, Stefan wondered if he was the reason behind Caroline being distant from Elena. He knew that the blonde girl had a crush on him and maybe the harsh rejection from him had put strain on Caroline and Elena's friendship. Stefan decided to talk to Caroline about it later on to sort this out because he hated seeing Elena like this.
