Hmm, There IS A Light at the End of the Tunnel

Recap: Bella's POV: "Yes! That was it." He grinned and then vanished. Everything in the dreamscape vanished. I closed my eyes tightly. Then I heard a familiar beeping from a heart monitor. I opened my eyes and looked around at this hospital room. Well, I suppose that news shocked me awake. But now I wish I wasn't. The Volturi, really?! Can I not catch a break!

Chapter 20: An Apple A Day

Bella's POV:

I didn't have to hit the call button before the nurses and a doctor rushed into the room. I have to leave.

"Miss. My name is Doctor Petrov. I have been handling your case since you were brought in," the small doctor began as he picked up my chart. "Can you tell me how you are feeling on a scale of one to ten? One being no pain at all and ten being in extreme uncontrolled pain." Thank you for the explanation that I have heard for the millionth time now.

"I am just sore. Now if you could have your nurses unhook me, then I will be on my way," I told him.

"I can't do that miss. You are to remain here until your injuries have been treated and you are back to 100% capacity."

"Are you a doctor or a mechanic?" I questioned. "I am eighteen years old. I am not a minor. I oversee my own care. I will be leaving. Make it happen."

Adrian's POV:

"Yes! That was it!" I grinned. I saw Bella's expression go from shocked, scared, and frustrated right before she vanished. She vanished? Shit! She woke up. She woke up! I swung my feet off my bed and scrambled for my shoes. Yes, I Adrian Ivashkov scrambled. Don't tell anyone. I ran out of my suite and past the Dhampir guards. I made it outside and ran into Charlie.

"Where's the fire?" He asks as he takes my shoulder.

"At medical. Bella's awake!" I told him. His eyes got large and we were both rushing to get to Bella. We run past the Dhampir guards stationed, nurses walking around, and finally burst through her door. And what a sight. Bella is red faced yelling at the doctor.

"What is going on here?" Charlie asks for the both of us.

"This insufferable man was not willing to let me leave," Bella gets out and runs a hand through her hair in clear frustration. Then she noticed a monitor taped to her arm and forefinger. She rips it off.

"Miss, you will need to put that back on. We are monitoring your vitals," the doctor states and I watch him roll his eyes before turning to Charlie. "I am so glad that you have arrived. Now if you could please control your daughter. She needs to remain here for extended observation and a multitude of tests to make certain there are no adverse side effects from what that felon put into her system. I am sure that you want what is best for her. Fathers are supposed to watch out for their children you know and not let this kind of thing happen."

"I can show you where I am going to stick this. And it won't be watching my vitals." Bella mumbled and continued to get out of the hospital bed. I moved forward and took her hand. "I hope you aren't trying to get me back in bed, are you?" Bella turned her glare on me.

"Never my dear," I winked.

"Yes, whenever are you actually following rules and proper order Mr. Ivashkov? Now sir, I will need you to control her that way I continue with my examination." The doctor ordered.

"Excuse me? I will tell you right now that-"

"Adrian, I will handle this. The doctor did say that I needed to control this situation," Charlie said while never taking his eyes off the good doctor.

"But dad-" Bella began to protest when Charlie simply held up a hand.

"Thank you, sir," the doctor said.

"No, thank you for the time and effort that you have put in to help my daughter, but your services are no longer required."

"Excuse me? I do not think that I heard you properly." The doctor asked astonished.

"You heard me just fine," Charlie said and stepped forward. He grabbed Bella's chart right out of the doc's hands and looked at us. "Are you coming?" He asked and left the room. Bella and I looked at each other and began moving to the door quickly. Bella ended up falling. I caught her in time and scooped her into my arms. I caught up to Charlie quickly and we crossed the courtyard, once again, and he led us to a conference room within the palace. I set Bella down and Charlie sat across from her. I grabbed an apple and a water out of the snack bar for her. She took a bite then looked at her father.

"Tell me what you know," they both demanded. Awkward.
