Hmm, There IS A Light at the End of the Tunnel
Recap: Adrian's POV:I mean she finally succumbed to our attraction.
Chapter 23 Renee
Charlie's POV:
There she is.
"Renee, I didn't think you would be here so soon. And where is Phil?" I asked her.
"Phil went to catch up with some of his Guardian friends," she said and sat down next to me. She turned to Abe and Janine. "Hello! How have you been Guardian Hathaway? And Mr. Mazur. You look dashing as always."
"Flattery will get you everywhere," Abe said and shook her hand. "And call me Abe. All of my friends do."
"It is always nice to see you Renee," Janine said in a cordial tone.
"You as well. How is your daughter? I heard she got herself in a bit of trouble. Thank goodness they proved that she was innocent of that treason business."
"Rose is Rose," Janine sighed and Renee laughed loudly at that.
"Now Charlie, how is our daughter?" Renee asked of me.
"She currently hates me and is not your biggest fan either," I told her and twisted the lid off my water before taking a sip.
"Bella, are you serious? She is never angry. You just probably misheard her or something Charlie. Let me go talk to my girl," Renee blew me off. She stood as Dimitri and Rose entered the room.
"Yeah, about Bella. You will need to come with us. Both of you," Rose said.
"What's going on?" I asked and stood as well.
"Bella has been taken to see Dr. Olendzki," Dimitri said.
Adrian's POV:
I knew my girl did not want to see her house or the medical center anytime soon. So I took her to my guest room in the palace. I stopped by the gang and asked for their help. Which apparently was a big deal. So, Rose and Dimitri went to get Charlie. Lissa, Christian, and Eddie all went to get Dr. Olendzki. The good doctor got here quickly, to which I appreciate. She was checking Bella's vitals now. She stood and grabbed her clipboard, scribbling notes. Meanwhile here I am burning a hole in the floor with my pacing.
"I will be back in a moment. Make sure that she rests and that no one disturbs her," Dr. Olendzki spoke in a whisper before quietly leaving the room. I crossed the room and just rubbed my thumb over her knuckles. My poor Bella. A knock sounded and I got back up and stepped outside rather than letting the visitors in. I softly shut the door before turning to Charlie and what seemed to be an older version of Bella.
"I am not keeping you from your daughter. However, I thought it best to update you out here. Dr. Olendzki said that Bella needs rest," I told Charlie in a rush so that he wouldn't go crazy on me.
"Alright son, now what is wrong with her? What happened?" He asked.
"Is my baby alright?" The woman asked frantic before I could say anything.
"Renee, let him speak," Charlie chastised.
"Oh! I apologize. Go ahead. What is wrong with her?" She asked.
"I think I can better explain," Dr. Olendzki said as she rounded the corner to this hallway. "Your daughter suffered a severe panic attack due to extremely high blood pressure. Her body is still weak from the attack she suffered from that Strigoi fanatic. Also, Mr. Swan when was the last time she had any blood?" Charlie's eyes widened. "From your expression, I am going to say not anytime recently. So, Bella needs blood as soon as she wakes up as well a decent protein filled meal. As well as taking it easy. By that I do not mean bed rest. Bella needs to feel in control and avoid stress for the next couple of days while her body recoups from the attack, the drugs that were forced into her system, and her lack of blood. Do you have any questions?" Everyone of us shook our heads. "Alright. Then I am going to check on her one last time," Dr. Olendzki said and went into Bella's room and shut the door behind her.
"I am such a lousy father," Charlie said and rubbed his hand down his face.
"Oh Charlie," Renee started to pet his arm. "It is not that bad. Bella will get better and get over it. No problem."
"Are you shitting me?" I demanded of the woman.
"Excuse me?" I asked. And I was surprised that Charlie didn't admonish me for my outburst.
"Bella is having to be seen by a doctor again. She has never been to feed and I doubt she knows how. Besides all of that. This is exactly what Bella reamed Charlie about. You both do not know how to parent. At least Charlie feels sorry. But what about you? Are you seriously that self-centered?"
"How dare you! Charlie are you going to let this young man talk to me this way?!" Renee screeched.
"Renee lower your voice," is all Charlie said.
"I can't believe this. Tell Bella to find me when she is better," Renee huffed and went to walk away.
"So you are leaving your daughter lying defenseless and in bad health because your feelings got hurt? Way to step up," I said and left before I could see what poor decision she would make. I slipped into the room with Bella and Dr. Olendzki.
Bella's POV:
"Hi Adrian," I whispered as I watched him come into the room.
"Bella! How are you feeling?" He asked and took my hands in his and started rubbing circles on them.
"Like I have been hit by a truck. Which makes perfect sense after all the Dr. Olendzki has explained to me. Sorry for being such a danger magnet. Even my own body is scheming against me," I laughed.
"Don't worry about it Bella. Let's just get you stronger," he reassured.
"Ms. Swan. Do you think you can get to the feeders on your own or do you want me to see about bringing one to you?" Dr. Olendzki asked me.
"Um, what is a feeder?" I asked Adrian.
"Feeders are what we call human volunteers who offer us their blood," he reminded me. I blanched at the thought, not completely used to being technically a vampire yet. No wonder I was so sick if I haven't had blood and I need it. Duh.
"I haven't. Um. I don't know how to get blood?" I stammered awkwardly. Dr. Olendzki's eyes widened a fraction.
"Well, we have a few options. Due to your body being so weak, you need to feed straight from the source. However, because you have never fed before, we will need to bring in an instructor as well. Would you like to feed here privately or in the feeding room Ms. Swan?" The doctor asked me.
"Here, I suppose. And is an instructor necessary? Can't Adrian just teach me?" I asked embarrassed.
"I don't mind at all," Adrian told both of us.
"Alright, I will send for a feeder and they should arrive soon," Dr. Olendzki said and pulled out her phone. "Alright message sent. A guardian should be here any minute. I will leave you two alone. And Bella, feel better soon and remember to take it easy." Then she left the room.
"Adrian. I am nervous," I tightened my grip on him and started to watch that door.
