Guest who asked about the purified(?) grimm:( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
To Guest who suggested the Beheaded from Dead Cells: First, I love that game and have based my Skulduggery Pleasant OC off them (go read that btw), and secondly, …maybe.
To darkstel, inquiring about the wording of Ruby's reverse harem: Sorry I missed your first review, I've fixed the wording, so it makes more sense, or at least is more straightforward. Thanks for catching me on that.
As the morning sun rose through the sky, Weiss Schnee slept soundly in her bed. Everything had been going great. She got out of her father's iron vice, was admitted into Beacon, preform amazingly at their initiation. There was only one problem…
*BWARP!*
Weiss shot up in her bed with a startled cry. Above her, standing on her bed, was Ruby, who was holding a trumpet and wearing a roman centurion getup.
"Good morning team RWBY!" Ruby announced, "Time to face the day!"
"What the hell are you doing?!" Weiss yelled, infuriated that she had to wake up to her stupid partner's stupid antics.
"Waking you up!" Ruby chipperly replied before spinning around in a flurry of rose petals, replacing her roman getup with the school uniform, Crimson hood added. "Now that you are all up, I can safely say, go and unpack."
"What?" Weiss asked from the floor, confused.
"Well seeing as it took so long for you to wake up, you need to get started on your luggage if you want to get to class on time.
"And you don't?" Wiess crossed her arms, smirking confidently that her partner hadn't already unpacked.
"Oh? But I've already unpacked, technically."
Weiss faltered before Yang shoved in front of her. "Did you bring it?!" Yang asked, excitedly. Ruby grinned back devilishly.
"Oh, I did."
Yang did a fist pump. Weiss turned to Blake.
"Do you have any idea what those idiots are talking about?" Weiss asked her black-themed teammate.
"Not a clue," Blake answered.
After a scrumptious breakfast of chocolate-chip pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream (Ruby drool remembering the mountain of heaven), Ruby had made it to class with ten minutes to spare and was now waiting for her team. As five minutes went by, Ruby began to wonder if they would arrive at all. This was answered by a commotion in the hallway as team JNPR and the rest of RWBY fell through the doorway, their books splayed out across the floor. Ruby snickered at their uncoordinated arrival.
"What happened to you guys?" Ruby asked Weiss as her team sat down next to her.
"Well, after you just left us," Weiss began heatedly, "We went and unpacked. When we were done, we didn't have enough room for all the beds, so your idiot of a sister suggested we could get rid of your bed." Weiss glared at Yang, who rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. "Before we could stop her, she had tossed the bed out the window."
Ruby sat there, processing Weiss' explanation. "…Our windows are big enough for that?"
"That's your only question?!"
"Good morning Students!" A deep voice called from the front of the classroom, distracting the Weiss rampage (Or Weiss-page, as Ruby had quickly named them). "My name is Professor Port! I will be teaching you about your greatest foes and adversaries that you will face in your career's as huntsmen and huntresses." Port took a moment to bring up a screen that contained detailed information on a few different species of grimm. "Monsters! Deeeemons... Prowlers of the night! Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names, but I merely refer to them as prey! Ha-ha!"
The whole class remained quiet as it began to grow awkward.
Yang leaned over to Blake, "Do you hear crickets?" she whispered. Port cleared his throat before continuing. Ruby, however, began zoning out. She had heard this all before, Grim had made sure she was well-versed in it. Oh, now he was telling a story. As Ruby half-listened, she could think of at least several tales Grim had, reluctantly, told her that was more exciting than this. Wait a second… Ruby began listening closely to the tale. Oh, The Professor was making his story into the lesson. The pack dynamics of beowolfs. Nice.
But Ruby still already knew it. She went back to Zoning out.
Weiss could not believe her partner!
She was just as immature and unprofessional as Weiss first believed. Just right now, she was practically half-asleep! In their first-ever class at Beacon! It was completely disrespectful, and it reflected poorly on the team as a whole!
Why on Remnant possessed Professor Ozpin to believe it was a good idea to crown that child as the leader?
"So, who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?" Professor Port concluded his speech, catching Weiss' attention. Weiss quickly got up and raised her hand.
"I do Sir!" She announced.
Port huffed. "Well Miss Schnee, it seems you are not the only one who believes that." Port gave a smile as he gazed to Weiss' right. Weiss began slowly looking turning to look to who was there.
No no no no n…
It was Ruby.
Her braindead leader.
By the time Ruby and Weiss had geared up and wear standing at the front of the class, Port had gone and gotten two cages that now were situated at either end of the classroom.
"Here's how our little, 'Friendly competition' will work," Port began speaking, more aimed at Ruby and Weiss than the rest of the class, "Each of these cages has a boarbatusk I have managed to capture on one of my recent expeditions! You will be judged on time taken, remaining aura, the technique used, and overall panache. Highest scorer wins!" Port brought up his scroll. "Good luck."
With that he hit a button on his scroll which released the doors on the cages, allowing the grimm to rush out of them, and towards the huntresses-in-training. Weiss used Myrtenaster to deflect her rolling boarbatusk to the side, a little bit of aura chipping off from the force of the boarbatusk.
The grim in question stopped and turned back to Weiss and began charging, which Weiss returned with her own charge. As sword and mask met, the blade of Myrtenaster got caught in the boarbatusk's tusks. Weiss adamantly held her grip as the boarbatusk began shaking her like a rag doll in an effort to fling her away.
Weiss finally lost her grip and the boarbatusk snatches the sword away and tossed it away, so now that is they were between the weapon and its wielder. Wiess scowled, now disarmed and with no way to fight back, she couldn't even use her glyphs without something to direct them.
Weiss looked up just in time to see the Boarbatusk charge again, rolling out of the way just in time to avoid getting trampled, making it crash into a desk. Weiss rushes at her sword and slides to get it back in her hand.
Meanwhile, the Boarbatusk leapt into the air and rolled into a ball, spinning rapidly in the air and landing on the ground, consistently gaining speed until it launches itself at Weiss. It came closer and closer, but Weiss activates a blue barrier which the boarbatusk slammed into. Weiss took the opportunity to backflip into one of her acceleration glyphs, propelling herself to towards the boarbatusk, impaling its exposed stomach with her blade. It squealed and fell silent as Weiss gasped in relief.
Ha, no way Ruby could beat that. The dunce could deal some major damage, but even she couldn't beat a grimm as quickly as…
Weiss faltered as she turned to see Ruby leaning against her boarbatusk's cage as if waiting for her to finish.
"Very good, both of you!" Port congratulated, "But I'm afraid there can only be one victor, and that victor is…" Weiss smirked. There was no way she could have been- "Miss Rose!"
Weiss shattered.
"I think it befitting we take a second look at our victor's battle." Port turned around to the main classroom screen. Weiss followed suit, wondering how exactly she was bested.
On the screen was a recording of Ruby, her stance wide but no weapons were drawn. The cage door was released and the boarbatusk charged just like Weiss'. The difference was, however, that Ruby dove over the boarbatusk, grabbing its tusks in the process. Making it over the boarbatusk, she tugged on the grimm's tusks, bringing it over her head and slamming it onto the floor. Ruby then swiftly drew Executioner and delivered three shots in quick succession, finishing the boarbatusk off.
Weiss was astonished.
Weiss was furious.
How could a little girl, with two years less training, public training at that, could have best somebody who had been taught by some of the best that money could buy?!
Ruby turned to her. "Good job Weiss, just remember to try and flip them onto their bellies as quickly as possible, it's the only unarmoured place on their body."
Weiss fumed; you could practically see the steam coming from her ears. Unable to think up a retort, Weiss turned on her heel and stomped out of the room. Ruby drooped. How was she meant to befriend Weiss and be a leader if her own partner hated her at every turn?
The rest of the day did not go well for Ruby.
Well, it didn't go well for her relationship with Weiss, the day itself went great.
In their Core Skills class, she was the first to complete the worksheet.
In History, she correctly answered all of the questions the Professor ("DOCTOR!") Oobleck had given the class.
In Plant Science, she listed the names and effects of the flora Professor Peach had shown them.
But every time she tried to impress Weiss, she was met with scowls and angry looks. Even during lunch when she saved another student from tripping over, her icy partner was still not impressed.
So Ruby finally decided to just ask what was wrong with Weiss. After their final class concluded, Ruby hurried over to Weiss to ask her question.
"Hey Weiss, you've been really… off, today. What's wrong?" Ruby asked.
"What's wrong? What's wrong?! You're what's wrong!" Weiss shouted. Ruby was instantly taken aback. When she wanted a direct answer, she didn't think the answer would be directed at her. "You're supposed to be a leader, and all you've been so far is a nuisance!"
"Wh-what are you talking about?"
"Ever since I met you back in the Emerald Forest, you've been an immature little show-off!"
"I'm just trying to show you I can do this!" Ruby shouted back.
"Do what?!"
"Be a huntress!"
"Well congratulations, you're the most childish huntress ever!"
"I'm fifteen!" Ruby was starting to get angry.
"And oh how you act like it." Weiss mocked.
"Well, PRINCESS, you seem to be forgetting I got here two years earlier!"
"And that was just Ozpin's first mistake." Weiss held up a finger, "His second was letting you stay," another finger rose, "and his third and worst was making you team leader." A third and final finger raised. Ruby was at breaking point. Her fists were shaking.
"FINE!" Ruby shouted, "If you think I am so ill-suited to lead this team, then prove it! Fight me!"
Weiss faltered. "What?"
"Fight me! A leader must be strong and lead their team to victory, so let's see who stronger."
Weiss smirked. "And when I win, you'll finally see how out of my league you are."
"Oh, we will," Ruby glared, "But I won't be losing."
"Hey Blake, have you seen Ruby anywhere?"
"I think she was going to go fight Weiss or something."
"What?! We need to go save her!"
"Really? How hurt could Ruby get?"
"Not Ruby! Weiss! Ruby is going to put her in the ground!"
"Yang, I know you are a bit biased for your sister, but don't you think that's a little exaggerated."
"…Ruby and my fights are 0:40. To her."
"…Oh."
Ruby and Weiss stood facing each other in one of the many duelling arenas scattered around Beacon's training grounds. Their eye's locked on one another. Weiss held Myrtenaster in a fencing stance, whilst ruby was ready to quickdraw either of her hand cannons.
"Tournament Rules," Ruby stated, confidence unwavering.
"Agreed," Weiss responded.
Another moment of tense silence and then the two began.
Ruby drew Cremator in less time than it took most to blink and began firing an unrelenting maelstrom of energy. Weiss sidestepped almost a moment too late as the storm rushed passed her, permitting her to feel just how powerful the attack was before it turned the wall behind her into a black mural.
Weiss, ignoring the potential outcome of not dodging the first attack, retaliated with a barrage of dust-made fireballs, only for them to miss by a mile as Ruby was circling around the arena at tremendous speeds, with not a rose petal in sight. Weiss struggled mid-parry against Ruby's sudden kick, attempting to bring her heel down on Weiss' head.
With one last grunt, Weiss pushed Myrtenaster which forced Ruby off her, but not before the little reaper backflipped away, letting loose another torrent of gunfire, featuring both her hand cannons now. Weiss attempted another dodge but was seemingly unable to dodge the shots fired from Executioner.
As Ruby landed, Weiss had created a stasis glyph, that anchored Ruby to the ground where she was standing. Weiss smirked and leisurely cast a dust-made lightning bolt, not expecting Ruby to dodge it.
Because she did, in fact, not dodge it.
She blocked.
As the lightning approached, it struck and bounced off the familiar silvery shield that had surrounded Ruby before. The reflected bolt almost hit the remaining members of RWBY, who chose that moment to rush into the arena's stands.
"They've already started," Blake observed. Yang sighed.
"All we can do now is pray that Weiss isn't as delicate as she looks," Yang said as she observed the battle.
Back down in the arena, Ruby's advance had been repeatedly thwarted by Weiss' Glyphs. Ruby was beginning to get annoyed. Weiss was beginning to get tired.
Ruby jumped back to the opposite side of the arena after a particularly nasty attack by Weiss. "All right then," She smiled at Weiss, putting the hand cannons away. Yang's eyes went wide. Ruby pulled out Crescent Rose, the hybrid weapon folding out into all its deadly glory.
.
Blake looked at Yang's shocked expression.
"Yang, what's wrong?" Blake asked.
"She's actually using her scythe…" Yang murmured, "She never uses her scythe." Yang turned to Blake. "If Ruby is using her scythe, that means Weiss must be either really good or really pissed Ruby off."
Slash after slash, Ruby did not pause her assault, her attacks leaving minuscule room for error in avoiding them. Weiss was being pushed further and further back, unable to retaliate against the pressure of the weaponized farming tool. Ruby moved the scythe as it was a part of her body, making it flow like it was a colourful ribbon in the wind. Not an action wasted, not a move displaced, it was like fighting against a force of nature.
Weiss, at long last, was able to get one lucky strike in, making the attack falter long enough to cast an acceleration glyph that caused Ruby's backwards dodge to overshoot, sending her hurtling across the arena. Landing against the wall, Ruby stuck there as she looked back to Weiss, who was panting from the effort. Ruby calmly walked back to the ground, her eyes locked with Weiss' the entire time.
Ruby then raised the scyther-rifle behind herself as the ground around her began breaking apart and floating around Ruby, who was glowing slightly.
"Let's finish this!" Ruby cried as the head of Crescent Rose suddenly turned into a large, scary-looking blade of white iridescent energy. Weiss froze at the sight. Was it bewilderment? How could somebody so young do something like this? Was it shock? What was even happening before her?
Was it fear?
It couldn't be fear. Weiss knew what fear felt like. She feared the White Fang, the feeling of dread. She feared Grimm, the feeling of darkness. She feared her father, the feeling of power.
This was a new kind of fear. Real Fear. Not a fear that the mind makes, like phobias or paranoia, but fear that the most animal part of the brain recognises.
Pure.
Fear.
Ruby Leapt at Weiss, debris and rose petals scattering around her. At first, there was no sound. And th-
"I didn't mean to go so far! I kinda just, got too into it!"
"She looks real banged up there Rubes…"
"Well, she's not dead!"
"And that's meant to be any better?"
The voices sounded muffled and far-away to Weiss like she was listening through a wall. Her head throbbed like she was having a thousand headaches at once. Her eyes fluttered open to reveal the blurred images of her teammates.
"Hngh… What happened?" Weiss asked weakly. A sudden force slammed into her, rocking her back against the seat she was apparently in.
"WEISS!" Ruby cried, apparently having tackled her into a hug, "I'M SO SORRY!"
"A-about what?" Weiss asked, handling the situation awkwardly. Ruby let go of Weiss and rubbed the back of her head sheepishly.
"Heh, well I might have gone overboard a tincy-weensy little-bitty bit…"
"Ruby," Yang said in an authoritative voice.
"I used a move that attacked your soul directly," Ruby said quickly as to avoid Yang's wrath. Weiss blinked.
"What?"
"Weeeell… You remember that last thing I did, the glowing scary scythe-thing? That attacks your soul directly." Ruby admitted with a guilty expression, "I toned down the power a LOT since I didn't want to kill you or anything," Ruby looked to Yang, who still had a disappointed look on her face, "…but I still overdid it and caused you to black out."
Weiss sat there, stunned. "Ruby, h-how…"
"Don't worry! I healed you though!" Ruby said quickly, believing Weiss was going to say something much worse. "You're as good as new!"
"That's not..." Weiss began but stopped at the sight of Ruby.
She was crying.
"Ruby?" Weiss asked.
"I'm sorry Weiss, I should have never gone as far as I did." Ruby looked down at her hands. "I was just so angry, that you didn't believe in me…" She sniffed. "I just wanted you to believe in me…" Ruby hugged herself, shutting her eyes tight. A hand appeared on Ruby's shoulder, making her look up.
Weiss was softly smiling at her.
"I'm sorry too, Ruby." Weiss apologized, "I allowed my pride to blind me. You a strong, far stronger than me. And, that made me angry." She sighed. "I had always been raised to believe that I was better than everyone, and for a long time, I believed that." She smiled again. "But you proved me wrong."
"Weiss…"
"So… want to try again?" Weiss asked. Ruby nodded energetically. Weiss chuckled. "Okay, but I still think you have a way to go as a leader," Weiss told her, "So don't think this is an excuse to slack off!"
"Yes mam'!" Ruby saluted, making Weiss laugh.
"Well isn't this a wonderful moment," Yang said, causing the two girls to look at her.
"Uh, Yang, why are you recording us?" Weiss asked.
"Oh, this?" Yang emphasized the scroll in her hand, "I'm putting this in my 'RWBY's time at Beacon' portfolio. Truly a touching moment."
"Yang!" Ruby said mock-offendedly as she playfully pushed her sister. Yang laughed at it, and soon, the whole team was laughing.
It was going to be a good time at Beacon.
One thing before I go,
This chapter is yet another part of the massive sign that is; "DO NOT FUCK WITH RUBY ROSE"
Ruby is powerful. But I mean, you would to if you were trained to use a scythe by somebody who had been using one for [SPOILERS] and helped teach you about your amazing hereditary abilities to use soul energy that came from [SPOILERS].
So, TDLR,
Don't Fuck with Ruby.
That is all.
(Also, keep those ideas coming, you may just see them in the fic!)
